True, definitely not saying he's surrounded by good talent. I think Daboll identifies what his offenses do well and calls play based off that knowledge.
-
All true, but over the last 3-4 years Josh tends to play really well against the better teams and not so well against everyone else. Not every time, but most of the time. To me he almost seems bored/uninterested when playing lesser opponents over the last few years. Could be alot worse though, he could play his best games against the poor teams and struggle against the best. Since last year's playoffs, I don't worry about Josh in big games anymore. The narrative is he started playing well in December last year and it carried over into the postseason, but you look at his numbers, I don't think that's the case. 4 of 6 games after Dec. 1st he had a completion percentage in the 50s or lower. 50.0, 55.9, 42.3 & 53.3. The last 3 percentages were from 3 out of the last 4 games last year. He also had a 0 td 3 int game in week 17 last year to go along with his 42.3 completion percentage and his worst QB Rating of his career at 17.0

Should we go after Josh Jacobs?
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to BuffaloBills1998's topic in The Stadium Wall
Singletary is one of very few players I could see staying at a real hometown discount, he loves the guys he's around and he love being in Buffalo. I know that's thrown around on here a bunch, but in this rare case I think it's true. Besides I don't think he's going to get offered big bucks, certainly some team will offer him more than the Bills will want to pay, but not big bucks. The sticking point may be would he be willing to be the #2 RB? I think if he were to stay, Cook will overtake him as the #1 next year. -
Daboll had his stretches where he would give Singletary around 20 carries a game and he had stretches where he didn't give him the ball enough. Take last 4 games of last year, Singletary averaged 19 carries a game during those 4 games. Maybe part of Daboll not getting Singletary the ball alot was he knew he wasn't a true #1 RB. If we had a premiere back during those years, I find it hard to believe he wouldn't give them the ball more. He may not be calling the plays for the Giants, but he's the head coach and I'm sure has a say in play calling and game plan this year and Barkley is 3rd in the league in attempts this year. Already running more times than any year in his career.

Josh was great in the playoffs last year, but still had clunkers late in the year. Once December hit 4 of the last 6 regular season games Josh was below a 60% completion percentage. He had games where he completed 50%, 55.9%, 42.3% & 53.3%, the last 2 were in the last 2 games of the year. He also had 3 INTs and no TDs in week 17 last year against a bad Atlanta team that finished 26th in the league in defense. Then he shrugged all that off and played the best a QB has ever played in a playoff year throwing for 9 tds 0 ints and posting the highest QB Rating ever in a playoff year at 148.99. He most likely will do the same this year.

STEFON DIGGS (his best season yet)
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to Buffalo Ballin's topic in The Stadium Wall
Or maybe the offense is learning to spread the ball around and not be so Diggs and Allen centric. I love what the offense has done the last 2 weeks. Same thing happened in the playoffs last year. He only averaged 3 catches on 5 targets for 33 yards 0 tds per game in the playoffs last year and we averaged 42 points per game. This offense is at its best when it doesn't rely on any one single player too much. -
We almost had 2 just yesterday. Maybe one of the reasons we have been a pass centric is because we haven't had a big play RB. Which is 100% true, we haven't had a big play back since Shady was here in 2017.
-
He doesn't have to, he eludes tackles or runs right by you. He averages more yards per rush than any RB in the Top 50 in yards. Him and Breece Hall, both rookies, average 5.8 ypc. Cook does it a completely different way than Hall, which is fine, there's no right or wrong way to lead NFL RBs in yards per carry. You seem pretty picky for someone who has watched a bad rushing attack since Shady's was here in 2016 & 2017.

I loved today’s game found a new way to win
LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall
We have been able to run the ball effectively this year. There's just hasn't been any volume of carries for the RBs. We came into this game with Singletary and Cook averaging a combined 4.6 ypc, that's being able to run effectively. After today's game they now average 5.008 ypc. -
I agree. They held Hill to 102 yards in 2 games. He averages 109 yards a game
-
I did compare his carries as I said he ranks 21st in carries by a running back this year. Last year 19th, 2020 he was 22nd and in 2019 he was 29th but didn't play in 4 games so that's going to mess that ranking up. And he doesn't average less than 10 carries a game. He's had stretches were he's gotten a good amount of carries. Just last year he averaged 19 carries a game over the last 4 games. Those are his numbers before today. He now averages 5.8 yards a carry on 80 carries and averages a 20+ yard run once every 15 carries. Next closest RB averages 1 every 19.9 carries. He's becoming a hell of a runner now he's getting some real opportunities. https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/stats/_/name/buf/buffalo-bills

Thank you! And yes both had really good games, both had over 100 total yards and a rushing td each. Cook missed by 1 yard or we would be talking about both hitting the 100 yard mark. If it was anyone but Knox I would've rather Cook had his crack at 100 rather than the final td pass. But Knox has had a challenging year with his brother's passing and all, so I'm happy get got that last td. That's 3 games in a row for him now. The last 2 weeks is exactly what this offense had to show it could do. And that is to be able to spread the ball around and still score 30 even though Diggs is being doubled and not being able to contribute much. Going to make it much tougher for teams to use a guy to spy on Josh also. Keep doing it and force defenses to stop playing us that way.

It's ok. You can have your beliefs and I can have mine. We don't happen to agree on the particular subject and I don't think either of us are changing our minds on this.😂 But I think we can both agree it appears we have 2 fine RBs rounding into form right as the playoffs approach. It's a good problem to have when you're having a discussion on which 2 RBs have been playing better and deserve to start. It's getting late. Merry Christmas my Bills brother!! And GO BILLS!!! -
To a degree I would say yes, but even at that once every season and a quarter is still really bad. I'm sure we rank last, by a margin, in the league during his 4 years here. Entering this week he did rank 21st in attempts by a RB, apparently there several starting RBs that get fewer carries than him, I honestly would've never thought that. I would've thought he was somewhere around 30th. I love him, how tough he is, who he is as a player and that he gives max effort, but imo there's no way he should be an NFL starter. Imo he's #2 RB who should be splitting carries 60/40.
-
Yet surprisingly Jordan Phillips has 1.5 sacks in week 1 and none since. Been disappointed in Mr. Phillips this year, was expecting at least 5 or 6 from him this year.
-
I think James would be just fine as the feature back, may even see it next year if Singletary doesn't return. He's got really good speed and quickness. Singletary is a nice steady back and I mean that as a compliment. But he's been the starter for most of his time here and today was his 3rd 100 yard day in 60 games. That's not NFL starter material, his true position is a #2 RB. We've just never had anyone better or even as good. I think Cook is that guy and the more he's seen the field the more he's shown it. He's averaging nearly 6.0 yards an attempt this year.
-
There was nothing miserable about today. Today our defense stopped Fields and Chicago's vaunted running attack(#1 in the league). And we ran the ball better than we have in a long time. Plus they were comfortably ahead in the 4th, giving a much needed break for many fan's hearts. Many of y'all are too uptight(You know who you are) lol. I absolutely loved today's game.
-
Yes we did and we won in a fashion we supposedly couldn't, with 2 thoroughbreds. The sky is falling no more. Well.......at least for 1 week that is.😂
-
I believe they need to switch roles and imo today it wasn't Devin grinding it out then Cook having success. It was the exact opposite, first Cook had success then Singletary joined in later. Cook had a 24 yard run on the opening td drive. The only rushing yards by a RB on that drive. We've been waiting for a big play RB for what seems like forever and certainly as long as Josh has been here. We finally have one averaging a 20+ yard run in 5 less attempts than his next closest competition in the NFL, imo he's a major weapon. It's time to use him as such, he's no longer a rookie, he has almost a full season under his belt.

LOVEMESOMEBILLS replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, he had a good game as I said before I'm still a fan of Singletary. But come on, today's game was the furthest thing from a normal Singletary game as there is. In his 60th career game in Buffalo he notched his 3rd career 100 yard game. That's brutal for a guy that has been the featured back for most of his 4 years here. He's had plenty of time, he hasn't produced like a starter. Quit while you're ahead, as they say, there are no numbers that support starting Singletary over Cook. -
Jimbo now has (6) 20+ yard runs this year on only 80 carries. That's 1 every 15 attempts. Coming into this week RBs with 6 or more 20+ yard runs averaged 1 anywhere from 19.9 - 30.0+ attempts. He's just shy of beating the next guy by 5 full carries. Also coming into this week 6 20+ runs would've tied for 10th in the league by a RB with K Walker - 150 carries and Etienne - 204 carries. Again Cook doing it on only 80 carries. Imo he's the big play back we've been waiting for.

That "6 game sample size" produced a top 10 placing for big runs by RBs this year. What were the things Singletary places top 10 in RBs again? It appears you forgot to include it in your last post. The only reason he isn't starting is cause McDermott always starts veterans WRs & RBs over rookies. Which makes absolutely no sense cause he's willing to start rookies just about everywhere else. -

Hate to tell you, but 5.8 ypc is an elite number, so maybe he has looked elite. Or averaging a 20+ yard carry every 15 times he runs. He has more 20+ yard runs than his brother and Delvin has 230 carries to James 80. I just looked it up there's only 12 runners in the league with more 20+ yard runs this year and 3 of those are QBs. So he's top 10 in 20+ yard runs by a RB on only 80 carries. The next lowest attempts in the Top 10 is J Wilson Jr at 136, almost 75% more carries than Cook. To me that's elite, everyone he's facing has way more carries than him. What's Singletary top 10 in? He stands way more of a chance having 170 carries. -

Oh I'm banging the drum for Cook to start and get more playing time. And I love Singletary and have stuck up for him repeatedly because he's a solid player and he's been our only real option at RB for a few years now. I'm also not "just getting lost in the stats", he looks like the better, more explosive back more often than not over the last 6 weeks. That's when he started getting his first real chance to contribute in this offense. And imo he's outplayed Singletary. I would caution you on being too comfortable with the same old thing. One looks the part of a featured back, with the ability to make big plays and the other looks like a typical #2 RB, the best you can say about his game is he's steady. That's not meant to be a knock on Singletary, it's just the truth. We finally have the luxury of putting Singletary at his true position. We know what we have in Singletary, he's hit his ceiling. He's the little engine that could and there's nothing wrong with that. We have no idea how high Cook's ceiling is, but you can plainly see it's higher than Singletary's by a noticeable margin. You get the feeling he could break one at anytime. I miss that at the RB position and you know what? So does this offense. With an offense desperate for big plays right now, this should be a no brainer. I think the coaches are starting to see it too. 2 of the last 4 games the carries were evenly split, each had a game with 1 more carry than the other.
