Peters will report Saturday
ChevyVanMiller replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This will go down as the most poorly calculated holdout in history. Peters cost himself thousands of dollars and a lot of respect with the fan base only to report and start at the same square that he would have if he had showed up for training camp. Doh! -
I thought that Costanzo played well in preseason. Glad to see him get a shot when the bullets are flying for real (to use an expression that we swore we wouldn't in the days after 9/11). Go Blake!
-
Add to everything else the fact that for the FA pick-ups and the rooks this will be the first time they've played before a real, live raucous regular season crowd at the Ralph. They're going to be jacked. Go Bills!!!!!

I don't think he was in anyone's camp? Has he officially retired or is he still hoping for a call? On a similar note, what team, and in what week, do you think will sign Daunte Culpepper?

Scout.com says Peters may be back monday

Which Monday? -
If I read one more quote from someone in the national sports media annointing the Jets as the darling AFC wildcard pick just because Farve is behind center I'm going to hurl. I have a lot of respect for the guy, but he is ancient by football standards and has had two horrible seasons out of the past three. Now he's in a new offense for the first time in nearly two decades and playing in the furor known as NYC. While I wouldn't be totally suprised if he has some success, I think it's twice as likely that he stinks up the Meadowlands this Fall. So for every national talking head that has swapped the Jets for the Bills as his/her AFC wildcard pick, I hope you have to eat your chessehead hat come December.

Thanks. Just a question for anyone who may know: I know that waivers works based on last season's W/L record in reverse, but what is the actual process? Does Miami get a certain amount of time after a guy is waived to claim him before the next team gets a crack or does each team get the same time and when multiple claims are submitted the team with the worse record gets the player?

NFL Season should begin today
ChevyVanMiller replied to Marv Levy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that the first Thursday night game should come in week 2. The season should begin on Sunday with all teams (save the Monday night teams) playing. It's sort of like when MLB "kicks off" the season with two teams playing in Japan. Opening day should involve all teams. -
Congrats! That's a great accomplishment (both with the quitting smoking and the running). Good for you, keep it up!

Can teams sign waived players today or do they need wait until Tuesday? It seems impossible that the Bills will go into the Seattle game with just one healthy Tight End. Short yardage situations call for two TE's, they'll have to pick up someone off of the wire - Cieslack (sp?) perhaps?
-
Thanks, that's great news.

It stinks that the radio coverage switched from GR to 1230. I live in Eastern Niagara County and can't pick up 1230 unless I go out and sit in my car.

Guess you guys were right - just one last trip to see the sights before heading out of town. Donnie we hardly knew ya.

Many of the cut predictions have Donnie Spragan getting the axe. For what it's worth he and his wife/fiancee (big rock beautiful lady) checked into a posh hotel in Niagara Falls last night and took a 5-hour tour. He didn't act like a man expecting to be unemployed today.

I HATE the Howard Stern replays
ChevyVanMiller replied to John Adams's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Yesterday they played the tape from when Doug Flutie's band took on the Losers. Doug's brother was the lead singer and the magic man played the skins. One of the judges had a classic line: "First off, I'd just like to say that I think Doug is too short to be a drummer." -
Just a head's up, the current issue of the Jughead comic (who knew they still put them out?) has the famous eater in town for this weekend's Wing Fest. Jughead in Buffalo The Jugster visits the Anchor Bar and meets local personalities like Mayor Brown and the always-hot Mary-Alice Demler. I guess that the Wing Fest promoter bought 20,000 copies of the issue (almost the entire run) so its almost impossible to get your hands on one. If you go to the festival, hold on to your copy, they're already selling for $10 or more on E-bay. Pretty cool national exposure for Buffalo.

I am starting to believe we need to trade Peters
ChevyVanMiller replied to DIE HARD 1967's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure if some folks realize just how highly thought of Peters is around the league. The current issue of Sporting News has him rated as the 11th best PLAYER in the league - regardless of position. You don't trade a guy as gifted as him unless you find out he's badly injured. The Bills hold all the cards here, there's no need to get froggy and jump. -
Thurman was on GR-55 the other day and had a good line. He said that if Bruce didn't get the sack record he'd still be playing.

Sometimes it's tough being a Bills fan
ChevyVanMiller replied to ChevyVanMiller's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sorry, didn't see the other thread. Mods, please delete. -
So I'm sitting in the john reading Esquire, as I'm wont to do, and decide to read the feature piece on one Tom Brady. I'm just getting over my knee-jerk hatred for him and all things Patsie when I read the follwing paragraph: "We were playing the Bills last year and I got a call in from the sidelines," Tom Brady says, regaling now. "And Josh, the coordinator, he says, 'Second and one, get the first down.' We're up 17? A lot, I don't remember. We're on the 48-yard line, and Moss was wide, so I just said, 'Randy, go deep.' And I just laid it up there. I just threw it. I ran off and Josh shouted, 'Just get the first down!' And I said, 'How was that?' They pulled me out of the game. That's exactly what I was trying to do." Then, angry about Marcia's dig at out woeful D last year, I flip on the RCA and tune to the Olympics. I'm watching the men's ping-pong (table tennis to you pinky-cockers) final and two guys from China are playing the game at a level unimaginable. Just when I'm forgetting about the Esquire diss one of the announcers describes one of the players as "ping-pong's Jim Kelly, because he's been to the world finals four times - losing each one." Ouch! Sometimes being a Bills fan is a real b*tch!!

Based on the underwhelming response to this thread I think we can safely surmise that boxing is dead. RIP

for those watching US Hoops today

Reminds me of the old Michael Jorden bit on Letterman: Letterman: I understand that you can't wear your new sneaker during NBA games, why is that? MJ: Because it doesn't have any white in it. Letterman: Neither does the NBA. (Rim shot)
