What is your "perfect" draft scenario?
ChevyVanMiller replied to rayray808's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just hope that, come draft time, everyone remembers that QBs often go way ahead of the draft number that the experts put on them. This team needs a real NFL QB more than anything - if that guy is there when they pick 8th, I'd like to see them grab him rather than get cutsey and try to get an extra 2nd by trading back. -
Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
ChevyVanMiller replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It still seems incomprehensible that Te'o wasn't involved. If he truly was innocent I don't know what the endgame was for the perps. Furthermore, he must be the most gullible guy in a high-profile situation to ever come down the pike. There is no way, if I was a GM, that I'd spend a 1st Rd pick on him. How soon would it be before the next phone girlfriend had him reading the playbook to her? -
Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
ChevyVanMiller replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It makes no sense that T'eo would keep referencing her AFTER he said he got the call from her saying she was still alive. Unless of course, he was in on it all along. Apply Occam's razor and that answer is by far the most plausible. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8856519/manti-teo-talked-girlfriend-knowing-hoax -
Thanks for your contributions, Eball. Always enjoy your viewpoints and totally concur with your thanking Scott for having the great wisdom to set up this forum that so many of us love.

Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax
ChevyVanMiller replied to Punch's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'm willing to bet that within 24 hours a girl, or maybe many girls, will come forward to say that she (they) either dated or hooked with with Manti this season. No way was he sheltered in his dorm room pining for an online romance. -
Deadspin: Manti Te’o’s Dead Girlfriend Is A Hoax

What do you make of this quote from an ESPN article? This guy from the Cardinals is either lying to protect him or he's nuts, too. Things just get curiouser and curiouser. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8851033/story-manti-teo-girlfriend-death-apparently-hoax Reagan Mauia, an Arizona Cardinals fullback, said he believes Kekua existed because he met her in person when he and other Polynesian teammates and Pittsburgh Steelers starTroy Polamalu went to do charity work in American Samoa in June 2011. "This was before her and Manti," Mauia said Wednesday evening. "I don't think Manti was even in the picture, but she and I became good friends. We would talk off and on, just checking up on each other kind of thing. I am close to her family. When she was going through the loss of her father, I was -- I offered a comforting shoulder and just someone to bounce her emotions off. That was just from meeting her in Samoa." Mauia said Tuiasosopo -- whom Mauia believes is Kekua's cousin -- introduced the two. After the initial meeting, Mauia said he met her at an "after-party" for all of the athletes involved in the camp. "She was tall," he said. "Volleyball-type of physique. She was athletic, tall, beautiful. Long hair. Polynesian. She looked like a model ... " He said it is his understanding that Kekua's mother is operating her Twitter account. He said he'd never met her mother. When told by a reporter that she apparently might not have existed, Mauia said "No, she is real." -

If the Bills ever drafted the player that the majority of mock drafts pegged for them you'd have typed this masterful pretzel logic wearing a Haloti Ngata or Brian Orakpo jersey. -
Chip Kelly Hired as New Eagles Head Coach
ChevyVanMiller replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kelly comes off like a complete douche. Imagine being a Ducks fan - 1st he's killing you because he's leaving, then you survive the night of the long knives and are relieved because he's staying - only to have him stab you in the back now at the 11th hour. Seems like a no-class egotist - in hindsight, glad he's not here. -
Buffalo has a new ABA team for 2013? 716ers...
ChevyVanMiller replied to EasternOHBillsFan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
True story: A few years ago there was a Buffalo ABA team called the Silverbacks that played at Buff State. I had gone to one game the year before and enjoyed it (although there are some weird rules, like 4 -point plays based on defensive domination, etc.) Anyway, there was maybe 250 people in the crowd. The following year they ran a commercial saying they were giving away 5 Xbox360s at a game just before Christmas. I called up a buddy of mine and said, "I don't know if you care about the ABA, but they're giving away xbox360s and based on the crowd size from last year, we'd have about a 1 in 50 shot of winning one." We went. Crowd size was what I estimated and I won the last xbox360 they gave away. I still have it (though it did have to get repaired from the red rings of death issue), but better yet I've got a great story to tell. (Also got Daryl Dawkin's autograph at that game - he was the coach of the opposition - he signed it "Chocolate Thunder.") -
OT New Buffalo Sports Radio Starts Tomorrow
ChevyVanMiller replied to BRAWNDO's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I have the tunein app on my android. Just checked and there's a CBS Sports Radio 1270 station - currently playing the Doug Gottlieb Show. I assume that's it, hope that helps. -
Poll: Should the "Redskins" name be changed?
ChevyVanMiller replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No worries, but it does make the "Orange" citrus mascot pretty stupid now, don't you think? -
Poll: Should the "Redskins" name be changed?
ChevyVanMiller replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
No. the name Orangemen refered to the Six Nations of the Iriquois Confederacy. http://www.college-basketball-tickets.net/syracuse_orangemen/history.htm Nicknamed Bill Orange, the original mascot, an Indian warrior, of the University got its name from Syracuse being the salt city and because Syracuse is the home of the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. Still located on the Quad, the statue of the Saltine Warrior, a gift of the class of 1951, was sculpted by Louise Harriet Meyers. The warrior stayed as the mascot until 1978 when American Indian students complained that the mascot was offensive. For a time, a Roman Gladiator served as the mascot and students even proposed the Abominable Orangeman, an orangutan and Egnaro the Troll as new mascots. -

ChevyVanMiller replied to Just in Atlanta's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I wouldn't object to the name being changed, but would not like to see a foolish change like what Syracuse did when they changed the name from "Orangemen" to simply, "Orange." Now they have an orange as a mascot - and as everyone knows, when you think oranges, you automatically think Central New York.' -
Titans Fire Music City Miracle ST Coach
ChevyVanMiller replied to judman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It won't correct until you wake up to read: Norwood splits the uprights, Bills cover kick to beat the Titans in Playoff opener, Hull admits foot was in crease, Sabres awarded 7th game to win Cup, Snyder bringing NBA franchise back to Buffalo, Neil Young and Steven Stills getting old band back together and dropping the Springfield from the title. -

Dehaven had the best quote ever about that play when he was asked if, in hindsight, he regretted not kicking it out of bounds. "I wish we'd of done just about anything other than what we did." -

ChevyVanMiller replied to kellysheroes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really thought this guy would never get a shot. He seemed to be nothing more than a name that was always mentioned, but never someone that got interviewed. I hope he does a good job for the Bears. Can't imagine what would have happened here if Russ had hired him after his "World Class talent" speech. -
That's how he prefers to be referred as - he made that clear his rookie year.
