If the season finishes as you suggest, which franchise QB is left on the board at pick 20+? I don't think there will be one and trading up will take a lot of picks unless the Chefs continue to slide. Certainly both 1st rounders this year plus how many others picks? Best case for a QB is that both the Chefs and Bills lose out. We could then use both picks to move up for THE GUY provided of course we have a dance partner near the top of the draft.

2x1st Round Draft Picks
Bills Fan of St Augustine replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills have not invested top picks in the OL. They invest mid to late round picks on guys who other teams pass on and then regret their decision. They drafted EJM and Losman in the first round. I only see one bust at OL in the first round. The rest were solid contributors for many years. A change would be to build a solid OL unless an elite prospect drops to us at QB. I've watches the "elites" in this draft and come away with doubts. Is the media the problem here?
Bills Fan of St Augustine replied to freeagentqb's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope, not the media's fault. The media is interested in selling newspapers and keeping the fans attention on themselves. Creating news and creating controversy. That said, they don't influence poor team management and player evaluation. They don't influence coaching blunders and in-game play calling and or adjustments to scheme. They don't influence player's ability and their desire to win. We as fans continue to support losing franchises and funding undeserving superstar life styles. Sports are entertainment and athletes, entertainers. If our sports were a play or a movie or a musical, etc, both teams would have shutdown years ago. We continue to support substandard product and then fail to encourage those who play for the love of the game. Support Friday night football like they do in Texas. Go to a UB Bulls game and show support for these guys who most will not be playing on Sunday's. -
Yeah but....this has been argued by me for the past 4 years and many on this board will still argue to this day that using high draft picks to build an O line is a waste. "They can be had in the middle to late rounds". Give me a break. Our OL is terrible. We can't pass block or run block. So far this decade, in eight years we have drafted 5 OL somewhere in the top four rounds. Glenn, Dawkins, Koujo, Hairston and Miller out of 32 picks. Build from the inside out. OL/DL unless a can't miss QB is available. In the same time period, we drafted EJ Manuel as the lone QB. No WR/RB/CB/S/K/TE etc until the lines and QB are settled. We are a very long way from being a contender. This is as bad as I've felt as a Bills fan and its been almost 50 yrs!

We are not as good as our record would have us believe. Reality sets in, we really are a five win team. -
If Cousins, Brees, Carr, Stafford, Smith, etc may all be available. If we spend multiple picks to get the franchise guy and even if he is the franchise guy, he will get killed behind our OL. Our D will assure he is killed often. Many many years to build. A FA QB allows for a quicker recovery that's all.

So he's an average to below average passer. Not bottom five in the league. So I guess that means he is a viable starting QB. On a really good team, he is adequate. On a mediocre to below average team, he can't carry the team to the playoffs like a Favre, Brees, Ryan or Brady. I think that's what we have. So viable, yes. Ideal, no way.
