GM Doug Whaley has been fired
jeffismagic replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, that's fine but if you were running an NFL team you would end up like the Bills trotting out other team's backups because you are waiting for Luck or Elway. I think if you hate these prospects then you will also hate next year as well other than the one guy who goes before you pick. At some point you have to draft very good prospects and not expect perfection. If a perfect prospect came out the Bills also wouldn't be able to trade 4 1st rounders for him. -

What what your QB board this year? -
Coaches draft to fill immediate needs. GM's draft to create the best team using short, medium, and longer term horizons with the belief that the draft is to bring in elite talent and a patient belief in fixing weaknesses over time. I want a GM drafting players, no more coach drafts.

I doubt Gase is acting as dictator down there. Thanks for the response. Sean wants the power of a Belichick.

Bills missing out on very good QB's as well. They missed out on Derek Carr, Dak Prescott, and Russell Wilson just recetly. I also think they missed this year because Sean wanted to go defense. -
Polian - McD, "he's Marv-like".

Sean has the personality and charm of a Doug Marrone with the football vision of a Dick Jauron. -
People keep saying that but do they really? It seems like even teams like the Chiefs where Andy Reid has more power the GM was hired there by the owners and not Andy. I think every team is different but the Bills will not have anyone but a yes man coming.

Hey guys, don't worry. Bills have two first round picks next year and John Murphy and Donald Jones said Bills could, "wheel and deal." I was thinking that other teams could do that too but John Murphy sold me. Who could ever outsmart or maneuver better than the Buffalo Bills? -

To be honest I have posted much more about Sean the GM but others have wanted to discuss Mahomes with me. But nice try to paint me as irrational. If wanting the Bills to prioritize drafting good QB prospects is crazy then I admit my guilt. -

How is drafting a noodle arm QB in the 5th doing what everyone wanted? It's not even close. You can be happy that they got a guy you like but not everyone will be so easily satisfied. I see a younger T.J. Yates. I said before the draft Sean would use high draft picks to fill needs and that a QB would be taken later to sell people on the idea that the Bills care about the position. I thought it would be Kelly but Nathan "next Tom Brady" Peterman will do. -
Who even needs a personnel department? Just let Sean pick players using internet mock drafts. He can use Todd McShay's board.

I am working on it. It will be a tribute to our new GM and coach.

This QB Class stuff is just fun talking points for the TV pundits. If you are a team and have Derek Carr on the board and you don't have a QB you draft Derek Carr. You don't wait for a better group. You don't draft entire QB groups. You draft one of them. The 2018 QB Greatness Myth will be shattered once the games begin. 2004 was the best class of the last 20 years and what did the Bills get out of that drafting at 13? J.P. Losman. -

Wow, you really don't get it do you? QB's like Alex Smith and Tyrod Taylor don't win you Superbowls. Andy Reid got the QB he thought could win the big one! That's a lesson that Bills fans like you never learn. Top end QB play is critical. Sean The Wrestler said the same thing. Maybe if Sean hires a real QB scout and doesn't do the QB evaluations on his own he can get a QB like that too. -

One of those places was the NFL's Personnel Development Committee, which includes former Bills GM and Hall-of-Famer Bill Polian. Polian, fellow Hall-of-Famers Ron Wolf, Tony Dungy, John Madden and other committee members submitted a list of candidates that was distributed to all of the owners of teams searching for a new coach. McDermott's name jumped out at the Pegulas and they promptly made him the first of four candidates they would interview. It was notable that, the day before the "formal" interview that would include Whaley and former director of player personnel Jim Monos, the Pegulas invited McDermott to join them for dinner on their yacht in Boca Raton, Fla. He had the Pegulas at "hello." He impressed them so much, that as Kim drove McDermott to the airport after the next day's six-hour session, she was already telling him to have his wife (who had been invited to Boca Raton as well, but couldn't make the trip) call her for information about housing and other essentials in Western New York. http://buffalonews.com/2017/05/01/vic-caruccis-bills-wake-call-new-gm-wont-change-structure/ How can someone's name alone "jump out" at the Pegulas? Then they finally meet the guy before the actual football interview is to take place with Whaley and they fall in love so hard they decided to hand the coaching job AND the GM job to Sean McDermott. -
I am sure they are both trading stories on how messed up working for Buffalo sports teams was. Tim Murray, "So I get them their franchise superstar center and they still got rid of me because the player didn't like the coach.' Doug Whaley, "I finally found them their franchise QB but they took away my keys just before I could draft him."

You've been missing a lot of work lately... Can't say I've been missing it, Bob.

I wanted to like him but then realized that he was tall and white and would be picked higher where I would want to spend a pick. I spent my time trying to figure out who had franchise potential and thought they were Mahomes and Trubisky. I like Dobbs as a value pick as a guy that could be a starter and maybe more. -

I had this QB board: 1.Mahomes 2.Trubisky 3.Dobbs Never had interest in Watson or Kizer. -

That's not what the article said. It said Kansas City was believed to like Trubisky. I liked Trubisky as well. My two targets in the first were always Mahomes and Trubisky. Another piece about the 49er draft indicated Chiefs called everyone trying to get Mahomes. They tried to get in the top 5 for him offering 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 4th. And it wasn't just the Chiefs. Giants and a few other teams called Buffalo. Chiefs win the derby. So congrats to Sean who in 3 months of draft prep saw what idiots these other NFL teams were. Sean is the Bills chief QB scout. -
