Not even close. Tyrod Taylor is not Alex Smith and never had his success. If Tyrod was leading us to the playoffs every year then you could make your case. But he is a QB that falls apart in big moments and in the 4th quarter where games are won. You mean you try to trade up for a Carson Wentz type. Hey, that could happen. Do you know what the Chiefs record was? 41 wins and 20 losses when Alex Smith started. Tyrod has yet to win more than 7 games in one season. Wake me up when he does that.

Sure, if you have the 2001 Ravens or the 85 Bears. But if you have teams that great why not also get a QB better than Tyrod Taylor? I don't get why you are so obsessed with other team's backups. And if Mcdermott and Beane think they are about to create the 85 Bears in 2 years then they will be packing their stuff. The NFL has changed and teams need to adapt. Trying to win without a very good QB is going to a fight with both arms tied behind your back.

I think it is possible that a GM under a coach could be a GM. The Seattle situation Pete Carroll lets his GM operate even though Pete technically has final say. But I think McDermott doesn't strike me as the collaborative type. I believe Dorsey also didn't know Reid before he was hired, just like Carroll wasn't buddies with Schneider. So if the Bills are following a model it looks more like the Chip Kelly model.

Win what? We have a QB that if everything falls into place perfectly could sneak into the playoffs. That's a Ryan Fitzpatrick type. If we hitch our wagon to another team's backup QB for the next 2 years I believe we will be hiring a new coach and GM in 2019.

Of course you don't. Most Bills fans argued with me that there was even such a thing. Elite QB play is not highly valued by the Bills team or many of its fans.

I am not giving him credit. Sports journalists and people who understand the NFL have given him credit. If you feel your opinion matters more, then so be it. Vick came out of prison and no one expected much for a guy out of the league. Reid had him looking better than he did BEFORE prison! The Vick stuff was incredible QB coaching.

I think you are on to something here. I struggled with motive for a while. But I have learned when in doubt, follow the money. Was Rex a failure? For us the fans it was. Was it so bad for the Pegulas? Did they not make great money? Did Brandon not hit his metrics?

You're assuming that Russ Brandon wasn't the main adviser who wanted McDermott.

I don't think you understand what the committee does or the purpose it serves. They simply provide a list of people. They don't tell teams who to hire. That list is what is known as a the good old boys network. What happened from getting that list to making McDermott the one? Why was McDermott getting talked to on a yacht without the football people present? Why was he the first interview? Someone was giving advice to the Pegulas but it was not the committee.

I really wonder how Andy Reid has so little respect by Bills fans. Then again, this is a fan base that has forgotten what a real QB looks like.

I am all for accountability. Which is why when the last crucial choice was made for head coach, the Pegulas ignored the football people and listened to Russ Brandon. Whaley told them to keep the defense and to hire an offensive coach. Whaley was right, Brandon was wrong. Whaley was fired and Brandon remains. If Whaley had been listened to I believe the Bills make the playoffs in at least one of the 2015 or 2016 years, if not both. Now Brandon has a a new guy to market. Sean. Pegulas need to start listening to football people and start conducting real coaching and GM searches in the future. Buffalo fans should not accept anything less.

It may or may not bother you. But if McDermott traded away a franchise QB and does not acquire one himself by next year he will find himself more hated than Rex when he gets fired.

I agree that if the McDermott/Beane land a very good QB they will be here for a while. But I wonder how much interest McDermott the first time head coach has in drafting and developing a QB? Coaches don't like drafting and developing QB's. They would prefer to use draft picks on players that can help them keep their job that year. The Pegulas have decided to put the long term future of the Buffalo Bills in the hands of a coach trying to win now and consolidate his power. Those who assume a QB will be drafted next year might come to regret this setup.

If this doesn't work out will the Pegulas blame Sean and claim they didn't​ hire Beane like they did with Tim Murray and Doug Whaley?

Why bother drafting a QB in the first? Just keep looking for other team's backups. I wonder how many more years of this it will take before fans get fed up?
