  1. I screwed that up.....

Just curious, but is there any evidence that any team other than Kansas City was looking to trade up to pick Mahomes?

I don't have an exhaustive list but the NY Giants were trying as well. The Saints were going to pick him at 11 according to someone in their war room.

More confirmation today that the #Giants DID TRY AND TRADE UP for #Mahomes. Ben loves the kid. Very upset it didn't happen @AdamSchefter

  2. I think the Bills did contemplate taking Mahomes at 10, but wanted someone who was a better fit for their offense. I remember an insider on this board (Leroi?) said that Bills scouts and coaches felt Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming, was a perfect fit for Dennison's offense. I believe Peterman was taken to be the backup to Josh Allen, and that they would go "all out" in order to get Allen next draft.

jeffismagic....by the way, I tried finding that SI article where it mentions teams wanting to trade up for Mahomes, but couldn't find it. Can you provide the link? I'm interested in reading it.

Sure. This is a great piece and provides an inside look into the 49ers draft room this year.

At one point discussion turned to the rest of the first round. Peters heard reliably that Kansas City, picking 27th, was moving way up to Tennessee at five. Presumably for a quarterback. “I hear it’s for a one, two, four and next year’s one,” Shanahan said. “They offered that to Tennessee.”

    Just noticed this as well.

In the back were a collection of minority owners and a few fans who paid handsomely to the team’s foundation ($30,000 in one case) to silently observe the proceedings.

Imagine being able to watch the Bills draft inside their war room!

  3. If you don't think those guys are going to be good, then don't draft them.

If you think they'll end up being another Manuel or Losman...what's the point?

If you just take a QB for the sake of taking a QB...you end up with Manuel, Ponder and other reaches.

Time will tell if the Bills were wrong with not taking a high round QB this year.

Is this not your list? Is this you saying you had Wentz #1?

That was my friend's board. I do agree that Wentz was the top QB prospect last year. I also think he is not as good as Mahomes.

  4. OMG you're back to saying Andy Reid does no wrong. Ok you're talking in circles now. This was fun. I for one am hoping the Bills give their mobile veteran QB 4 seasons before drafting anyone in the 1st round since that's what Reid would do.

    Andy Reid > Greg Cossell.

And Cossell was the one who all the anti-Mahomes people copied, even if they didn't know it. Dinosaur era scouting. No thanks.

  5. This comparison continues to be way off. The worst you could have said about Carr's mechanics was that they got spotty under pressure. Mahomes doesn't have mechanics, they need to be totally rebuilt at the NFL level. It's the same problem Blake Bortles had and now we see those problems are preventing him from taking the next step. It is very unlikely at this point that his mechanics and footwork will ever be fixed. He's a massive project.

Andy Reid disagree with you. I'll go with him on Mahomes' mechanics.

  6. Jeff let's face it. These guys don't get it and never will. if you continue to not draft a QB in the first three rounds of the NFL draft and keep drafting corner backs you get the same thing over and over no playoffs. The KC Chiefs GM gets it. We get it Mahimes was the one to get he is the game changer QB you die to get. This will be proven out time and time again when Mahomes starts winning play off games. You can teach a blind man to see. Your speaking Chinese to these losers who keep drinking the cool aide.

I think once the real games start people will change their tune. For now, you are right. This has been all laid out.

  7. I see patterns too. I see that the majority of the time when teams move up to get a QB that it doesn't pan out. I see a pattern that no QBs from Texas Tech that have played in that offense have succeeded in the NFL. I see a pattern that of the best QBs in the league right now (Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Rothlesberger), two were drafted middle of round 1, one was drafted round 2, and one was drafted day 6. And I see a patter n of someone here repeatedly saying the same thing over and over again and hijacking threads to do so.

Yes, this is the reason why Aaron Rodgers fell. You proved my point.

  8. That's not an answer. I don't claim to have any expertise in picking Qbs. You do. What are your qualifications that make you better at doing so than anyone here and better than those who do this for a living?

I am not a QB scout. If I was I wouldn't be spending time discussing this with you but I would be counting my $$$ from an NFL team that valued my input. I am just a fan that sees patterns in the chaos.

As for Mahomes I watched every throw he made in college and weighed the pros and cons and realized he was exactly who I would draft if I was in charge. Once I saw the arguments against I realized that this had happened before. I see Mahomes as a Derek Carr type prospect who would be discounted by pundits for the wrong reasons.

  9. That wasn't his point at all.

He didn't say you don't wait for a generational player.

He was simply saying Mahomes isn't generational talent/prospect like billsareback keeps saying....that's it.

So what? No, many of the don't draft Mahomes crowd don't think Mahomes is a good prospect. Period. I believe you were in that camp.

And indeed, many people say wait till next year. That argument has been shredded over and over here. If Mahomes is a very good prospect on your board there is no excuse for a franchise like Buffalo to punt.

  10.

Once again. "Generational QBs" do not fall to #10. The "best player in the draft" does not fall to #10. If Mahomes were so likely to be so great, Cleveland would have just taken him #1. Or SF would have taken him #2. Or Chicago would have taken him over Trubisky. At the very least the Jets would have taken him #6. "Those teams are just idiots" is not a persuasive argument.

How many generational prospects have there been? Last can't miss prospects were Andrew Luck, Eli Manning. But if you wait for a generational prospect you will never get a top QB. Derek Carr was a very good QB prospect that fell because teams didn't like that he played in a gimmicky spread offense plus his brother failed. Aaron Rodgers was considered to have top 3 talent when he came out but fell on draft day because teams didn't want to draft a Tedford system QB.

Patrick Mahomes was also a very good prospect that I think should have gone top 3 in the draft but I also said before the draft he would SLIP a bit because many of the same NFL teams make the same mistakes over and over. I believe in drafting very good NFL prospects and Mahomes has the ability to be a top 3 QB in the NFL and be a SPECIAL player. I run to the podium for such a prospect.

You are welcome to wait till Greg Cosell and Mel Kiper tell you the coast is clear. I am not in that camp.
