If they lose 7 they won’t get in over: NE Denver Chargers Jags Can see 3 wild card teams at 11-6. Oh and one of them could be us. Making the game even more massive now. It isn’t just about the 1 seed. It might be to get in the playoffs. Where will their other 3 losses come from - most realistic: 3 games left v Denver/Chargers Commanders desperate for a win Home v Texans At Dallas Home v Colts Can 3 of those be losses? I think so. Heck, 11-6 might not do it if they finish tied with Jacksonville.

If you traded every one of those firsts we’d be better off. Maybe one them goes for Maxx Crosby idk. The other problem is the second contracts to guys that aren’t all pros. Just nice players. That’s fine, arguably. But your drafts better produce more than what we’ve done. Example - maybe Shakir should have been expendable bc of the 2024 draft. You take Ladd let Shakir go. Money saved and position upgraded. Im not saying that was the move to make. But that’s the kind of approach we didn’t take when it came to the second contracts and roster construction - only Benford and Cook are truly worth it.

This Josh Simmons story is ominous. Here is what we know: -- Chiefs listed him as "questionable" hours before the game two weeks ago with "illness." He played. -- This past weekend, per Underdog, Mahomes showed up for the game and noticed his left tackle wasn't there. -- A report came out that some coaches didn't know where he was. -- Earlier that day, Simmons deleted his IG (could be nothing). -- The Chiefs announced Simmons would miss the game for "personal" reasons. -- SiriusXM initially said "family reasons," but some reporters have since indicated that might not be the case. -- Andy Reid has said multiple times he won't comment and doesn't know when Simmons will return. -- Mahomes said he is praying for Simmons. -- Reid said the GM is now "handling" the matter, indicating the team is considering some kind of roster move.

Timed up horribly as we kick in fairly big second contracts to a bunch of guys that aren’t game wreckers. The cheap labor must be good to compliment them or ….. well you’re seeing it now.

So it seems to me every year prior to this the consensus was “we’re ok.” Question the AI all we want but I’d agree with that. I remember after the Dorsey firing thinking “we’re going on a run.” This time it’s different bc the defense is such a disaster and there is nothing at WR - in 2024 we won in the trenches, the turnover battle, and Allen being flawless. No one will tell you how good our WR group was. And in 2023 teams still had to worry about Diggs. Currently the WR group is being exposed.

Because we’re old and/slow on defense. Because Matt Milano can’t stay on the field. We knew Hyde and Poyer were going to keep us protected. This offense will need to score 30 plus a game vs good offenses. The defense only gets better if it gets healthy, Bishop gets better, and the suspended guys are good. Lots of ifs there that we had before the season but bc Beane didn’t do anything we were confident Bishop would make that leap and that Rapp was important.

I will say despite how terrible the holes are - WR, DBs, LBs - if Josh played just marginally better the last 2 weeks, we’re 6-0. That is how good he is. And what we can hang our hat on. But the question is has he been off because he’s hurt, the play calling, or the WRs? Or all of it. If those are the reasons then we need to trade for TWO WRs.

It might be too much coaching. What did we do this off season? Bring in like 3 special assistants to the defense? I do think the D line has been better by a lot from last year. Walker and Bosa are significant upgrades. And Oliver was good again tonight. LBs and DBs. Absolutely horrific.
