The quote from the Athletic below tells you all you need to know about this topic. Just check out the stats and you'll know that Yes there are alot of lazy narratives and biases out there. "Josh Allen had ball security issues throughout the season, particularly when he’s been forcing the ball downfield. Patrick Mahomes hasn’t gotten enough help from his receivers."

It’s Chiefs week - and the season is on the line

I think you know the answer is they will allow receptions all the way down the field. With the caveat on 3 and 5 they'll play further off. -
McDermott was the guy who engineered the turnaround in 2017-19. That doesn't mean he is anything more than another one of the many others who've come down the pipes and couldn't transition. He'll either figure out how to get to the playoffs and get this thing headed in the right direction again or he won't. Even the most ardent McDermott supporters should realize that the trend is not good, and this could continue for a couple more years. If he doesn't figure out where things have gotten off track and correct he'll be gone in time!

Rumor re: Brandon Staley (to be let go at year's end)
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
Interesting. But, looking at the numbers doesn't bear this out. Bills 332 rushes and Lions 328. Bills have about a pass or two more a game. Yardage is not significantly differently. Evidence doesn't bear this out, and you never know how a coordinator will adjust with the QB talent he has. Allen vs Goff could yield a very different product. -

A nice potential candidate available in Ben Johnson. One that fits exactly the type of change the Bills should be considering. And, there are a couple others as well. Unfortunately the timing will be such that the Bills will miss the window. -
Yet another choke job by the defense

I cannot believe people would use the word fabulous to describe the defense yesterday. It makes me think someone doesn't know what they're watching or working a different agenda. -
He was awful today don't give us that crap

From a former McDermott Supporter: It is OVAH

Why is he so gentlemanly with the refs too? Most NFL coaches would be losing their minds demanding and intimidating the next call. He such a ***** -

McDermott was the right coach in 2017, he's clearly not at this juncture. He's had many chances to prove he's not a Schottenheimer/Knox clone. The Refs and Rules in this league are trash, have been for a long time and only get worse. Bass let us down bigly. It would be nice to not give up a 30 spot in the second half of a game you're leading by 10 points and your offense puts up 17 in the second half. How can some franchises be so goddamn unlucky- a 60 yard FG in the rain-come on man -

Am I the only person who's noticed that many times Hurts is on top of pile and getting pushed across? -
McDermott weird comments about Josh Allen
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
The more I hear McD this season the more he sounds like a politician. If the offense goes on under Brady and plays better and Josh performs better, and they still miss the playoffs. It'll be we cant dig hole a for ourselves to start the season. And, of course the ready made injuries on defense, but that we performed heroically. We being the operative word, he's part of the defense, not the offense because they just haven't complimented the rest of the team by playing his style. News for Sean the Special Teams have arguably cost 2 games. And the defense hasn't been able to protect alead 2x in the fourth Qtr. NEWS FLASH Sean ! It's whole team and you're the boss so act like it, not like a coordinator turned politician. -
McD, Accountability, and Culture
D. L. Hot-Flamethrower replied to Dubie54's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think McD was happy to talk about how it all starts with him when we were winning. I've seen a McD this season who acts like he's in a self-salvation mode. The losing and pressure are apparent in this whole organization right now. And, I see a leader who is playing to a mantra of the "buck stops below me". Sorry but's that what I take, not just from his comments this year, but moreso the actions. -

Bills need a Ben Johnson led Offense

There is probably some truth to what he's saying but it's no secret the offense is better than the defense. They have a bunch of injuries and need an elite, not a very good, offense to win. Using Daboll's games as a barometer isn't useful IMO. Daboll built the offense. So Dorsey hasn't completely ***** the offense up, sure. But a simple explanation for the trend is that Josh has become a more consistent decision maker over his last 25 games as he enters his prime and they have a top 5 offense in football because he and Diggs show up to the field on game day. EPA per play being top 5 over a large sample size is not the same thing as putting teams on their heels, or blowing their doors off before they can get us into a tight game. There is more to these sports than the metrics and being top 5 in efficiency simply won't cut it right now. What would people have said about Manning or Rodgers or Mahomes teams aiming to have the 5th most efficient offense in football? They'd say that's a down year and the team will be in some trouble unless the defense is fantastic. I think the problem is that they play conservatively because they have a HC who loves his defense and wants to win by getting more out of his whole roster than relying on his stars. There is too much pressure on a ***** defense. It's stubbornness. Now the defense is unreliable, it's on the field all the time, they don't have a huge margin for error, and so losing turnover battles, getting behind in games, is hurting them. They would be much better off with an offense that was utterly fearsome, played fast, and ended games early. They go no huddle for the first half on Sunday and they win. Too many mediocre first halves on offense this year. Need to force other teams out of their comfort zone. These are still human beings out there who do worse when they're tight. They play like the Bills of 2017 lately but they don't have Tyrod Taylor. They have a weapon in Allen that says top 3 offense in the league or you're ***** up.

Not that the analytics models are perfect, but I've felt for quite a while going back to last season that our defense has gotten off too easy. Some, especially on this board, always think it's the offenses job to "win the game". Our defense and McD (even considering the injuries) have been falling off. I think our offense and Josh have plateaued in the current situation. We never add a bonafide #2, we've had a marginal O line and we have a great QB who they're trying to rein in as a runner. The defense has been aging and suffering from missed personnel additions. I also think it's pretty clear that "complimentary football" from McD represents a true lack of confidence in his defense. His level of accountability with his unit hasn't been high enough and blaming the offense is always a built in excuse. Get some damn turnovers defense!

He's not a premature XXXXXXXXXX like he was when he was young. Can hold off now and this really satisfies McDermott to no end. Sean was always critical of Josh not being patient enough and just going off too soon in the past. Now he loves it.
