In a way, it is good that that happens once in a while. He has to learn by making mistakes and seeing it for himself. If it was me, though, I would have had Jackson in there on 3rd down in that spot, though. I want Spiller and Lynch splitting carries on the first 2 downs and have Jackson in there on 3rd down. Spiller needs to touch the ball a lot more than he has.

WOW..........WHAT AN AMAZING STAT!!!!!!!! 0-40 on last 3rd and 10+!!!!!!!! WOW...... Nice to end that streak there. Would have been 0-41 with Trent......
-
These last 2 plays to Lynch should be in the "Spiller Package." Spiller wouldn't have been caught from the backside. Like the way Lynch has been running, though.
-
I do agree there. Too much time. Just had to be him, though........
-
NOPE...... Why is Ellison on the field again? He got burned twice on that drive. Until players like that are not on this team any longer, we are just going to have a second rate defense. No pass rush either......that doesn't help matters.

Byrd has to make that tackle.....

See if the defense can slow the Pats* down at all......

Replay booth and commercials - who knew?
sven233 replied to EC-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow.......didn't know that. How in the world can the NFL be doing this? No wonder replays take so long sometimes. -
Thanks.......I am sure your total of 8 posts (including this one) brings a lot of credibility to this forum! Fact is, long time members of this board appreciate the time, effort, opinions, and analysis I bring to this board. Oh, and at least my post was able to get you to comment on it in one way or another. Take your 8 posts to another board or forum if you don't like it. This is a football board. We are talking football. Don't like it, leave. Nobody forced you to respond to this post. Don't want to read it, then don't. I know some people's reading speed and comprehension is pretty low. If what I said takes you too long to get through, that is your issue. Just don't read. Find shorter posts to read. As for everyone else, thank you for your responses. I know that we are all kind of in the same place. We want the Bills to play much better, but only better enough to put us in a position to get our choice of our new QB of the future. I am not sure how many wins that will end up being, but probably not too many. There are some other bad teams in this league, so it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I guess as long as the teams that finish worse than we do this year don't need a QB, we will be OK. But there will be a few bad teams looking for 1. Going to be an interesting year one way or another! Thanks! Appreciate it. I love the game and have been studying it closely for a long time. Although what I said in this post was pretty obvious to a lot of people, I do try to bring my experience when I can. I have a passion for the game. As for Fitz, I am willing to give him a chance. I think we pretty much know what we have in him, but I am interested to see just how different the offense looks with him running it. It is almost impossible for him to be worse than Trent, so I expect better. I will be most interested to see how much better he makes our O-Line. I know, the O-Line is still lacking, but I think if he comes out and stretches the field and gets some of these defenses away from stacking the LOS, that all of a sudden, the O-Line looks a little better. We'll see, though. Going to be tough trying to get this team going with the Cheatriots* this week and the Jets next week. But I am just looking for some signs of life from this team. If we get that, we'll go from there.

Thanks for the kind words! As for Fitz, I do believe he will give us a better chance to win, but I am not sure how many we will. Last year, overall, our schedule was pretty easy. This year is definitely a step up in the competition side of things. So, while I do think the coaching is drastically improved, I don't think it will be enough to overcome the holes on the team. We are weak at OT, we have no true #2 WR, our only true pass catching TE is out for the next 2 weeks, and our defense, while not playing as bad as I thought they might, will struggle some as time goes along. Right now they are running a mix of 3-4 and 4-3, but the problem is, they don't have the personnel to run either the way they need to be run. They are in transition and there is still a lot of turnover needed there, especially at LB. All that said, we will win some games. Honestly I hope it is not too many. We have been average for too long and it has contributed to us not getting better faster. For once, i wouldn't mind bottoming out so we can get our QB of the future. I want us to be able to pick the guy we want out of all the QBs that come out. So, while I want the Bills to play better, since we can't win the Super Bowl this year, I would be more than willing to sacrifice a decent yer this year to get better next year. I want to win the Super Bowl. The only way to do that is to get good players. Hopefully no matter where we end up picking in the draft next year, the front office makes the right picks. We'll see!

I guess I probably wasn't as clear on that as I should have been. What I meant by that is when you watch the Top QBs in the league (Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Brady, etc.) they seem to adapt their game to what they are seeing on the field. For example, just watching Rodgers last week against the Bills makes this point. There were a couple of occasions where the defense tried things they probably shouldn't have. For example, the Bills had Kelsay matched up man on man with Finley! Rodgers immediately noticed this (the Bills gave him the match-up) and he took advantage of it in a big way. Then, on other occasions, the Bills played straight man to man with a nickle package and Rodgers recognized this and took off running making huge plays with his feet.....again taking what the defense was giving him. Maybe "taking what the defense is giving them" was not quite the right term. Maybe I should have said "HAVING THE ABILITY TO READ THE DEFENSE BEFORE THE SNAP AND FIND THE FAVORABLE MATCH-UPS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE QUICK DECISIONS AS SOON AS THE DROP IS COMPLETE." In Trent's case, the defense did give him stuff.......he just refused to take it most of the time because he played scared. We'll just wait and see where things go from here. But, my point was that there were plays open for Trent, he just couldn't make a decision to save his life.

How do I "Lean" to edit? Way to back up your post. Took me 2 seconds to read your post and less to realize you are an idiot! Anyway, thanks for the other feedback guys. I think we can all agree that Trent doesn't have "IT." Unfortunately, none of the QBs on the roster do. Ant to the poster that said Brohm was not great in practice......you are pretty much right on. But, who knows what that means yet. Until we see him in some games that count, it is going to be hard to make a real judgment on him. People have to remember that Chan Gailey gave everyone a blank slate to start with. He gave everyone the chance to prove what kind of player they are. With Trent, all he saw was how great he was on the practice field and probably thought that Trent had figured it out because he was running the offense the way it was supposed to be run (when there was nothing really at stake). But the lights came on and shined brightly on Trent and ha couldn't handle it. Gailey was probably trying to figure out what happened!!! He probably saw the Trent we all know and realized that he had been duped by Trent with his great practice play. This was the first time Gailey had the chance to see him try to run the offense in a REAL GAME and saw that he really didn't have it figured out and knew pretty quickly Trent couldn't get it done. So, I can't blame Gailey at all at this point. I am also pretty sure he know that Fitz isn't the answer either, but you can only do so much when you don't have your guy yet. Now, if after the draft next year they come out with the QB that Chan wants and he still doesn't show signs of getting it done, then I will start to worry. But no need to panic yet. I am willing to give him a couple of years to fix this team. Dick and company messed this team up pretty good and Gailey and Nix won't be able to fix it overnight. So, I will be patient and we'll see where things go. But when Trent and Fitz are the best QBs on the roster, you have no OTs, and no #2 WR.......it is going to take some time. There will be a lot of turnover on this team the next couple seasons. We'll see what happens. Just have to find our QB first and then get some OTs in here to protect him.

Listening to WGR today and looking at a lot of posts and blogs around, I think people are making more of the QB switch than what needs to be made of it. It is fairly easy to understand, so I will do my best not to make it harder than it is. What this all boils down to is that Trent Edwards has a bi-polar way of playing football. What I mean by this is that he is 1 guy in shorts and in practice and another on Gameday. I have watched Trent Edwards very closely since he has been here. I'll be the first to admit I was very excited about him when he first got here and I saw him practice for the first time. I have been to many practices and let me tell you, he was head and shoulders above the other 2 guys in the just about every practice drill they ran. Whether it was an accuracy drill, a throwing target drill, the fade drill in to the bucket, etc.......you name it, Trent was better, by a lot. He is also very good in live practice drills as well. 7-7....11-11, etc.....he was better. So, I can easily understand why Gailey and the rest of the Bills organization picked Edwards in the "QB competition" this year. He was the best QB in practice and the drills, by far. Then comes the Preseason. At this time Trent is the leader in the clubhouse due to his strong practices and strong Training Camp. He has earned the right to play with the Starters. There is no disputing that because, to this point, he is well ahead of the other guys. Edwards comes out in Preseason and looks pretty good overall, even though you can start to see glimpses of the issues he will have to come. He makes a couple of throws to Parrish down the field. He hits a wide-open Evans in the Indy game. Spiller tears it up in the preseason which moves the ball down the field and the offense is pretty productive (except for the first Preseason game in Washington). So, Edwards makes a few good throws in the Preseason and, since he is the only guy that got any reps with the rest of the starters, looks the best overall. There was no way the other 2 QBs were going to pass him in the Preseason. It was almost impossible. BUT HERE IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS START.......THE REGULAR SEASON......WHEN THE GAMES COUNT AND ACTUALLY MATTER!!!!!!!! Here is where the bi-polar Trent takes over. The other Trent Edwards. For whatever reason, when the lights come on bright in the regular season, the light in Trent Edwards head goes out. He is simply not the QB he is in practice, drills, Training Camp, etc. He starts playing scared. He tries so hard to to make mistakes, he forgets what he needs to do to win football games. All of a sudden, he does not throw the balls that he does in practice. He doesn't take the same chances he does when the games count. The reason for this is because somewhere along the way, he got too scared to make a mistake. He has said it himself that he is a perfectionist. He can't stand to make mistakes. This includes interceptions and incomplete passes. This is why he holds the ball so long and it is almost like pulling teeth to get him to throw the ball away. I mean, the 4th down play at the end of last weeks game is the perfect example of this. It's 4th and long......down by 27 points......nothing to lose.......and he runs out of bounds without throwing the ball down the field. He didn't even want to take a chance at an incomplete pass or int on a play that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. And this is not new......he has been doing it pretty much since he was given the Starting job a couple years ago. He can't stand to throw the ball away and take the incomplete pass. That is why he always takes the safe, short throw 5 yards or less down the field. He just doesn't want incompletions or picks. Now, I am not saying he is intentionally doing it. I just think that the things he does is what his body and brain are telling him to do. Some QBs in the league have the complete opposite mentality and care too little about the results of a play. They just like to chuck it up there and see what happens. Losman was a great example of this. He used to ignore everything underneath and just throw it long. He held the ball too long at times too, but it was for different reasons. He kept wanting to hit the big play and he ignored the underneath stuff that defenses gave him. So, he took his share of sacks as well, but it was because he was too focused on the big play. The key to playing QB is to have that "IT" factor. That "IT" factor is actually a lot of little things put together, but it mainly includes the ability to adjust to every situation, every defense, make the throws that the defense is giving you, and have the ability to lead your team when things are not going well. There are a lot of QBs in the NFL.....not many have that "IT" factor to be great. It is not easy to find a QB that has all of these qualities. The key is finding a QB with the most of these qualities as possible. Edwards, and Losman for that matter didn't have enough of these traits to be a great NFL QB. But anyway, I know this is getting lengthy. Much longer than I thought it would. But to sum up, I can easily see where Gailey and the Front Office got taken by Edwards. Sure, they had his old film, but that was from another coaching staff. So, Gailey went in with a clean slate (as he should) hoping he could take Edwards and make him into a QB (because he does have talent). Gailey started working with Edwards and all of the other QBs and saw the exact thing that many of us saw.....Edwards was head and shoulders above the other 2 in the practice setting and the Preseason games........when things didn't count. Unfortunately, this is all Gailey had to go by under his reign here. But then, the REAL games came along and things started to COUNT and Edwards reverted back to the scared QB he has been for a long time. Gailey was probably pretty shocked to be honest with you. Edwards all of a sudden was not the guy he had seen the entire offseason. Edwards became the guy Gailey saw on old film and Gailey quickly realized this (and didn't believe it was going to get better) and decided to make the move sooner than later. I can't blame Gailey at all for going with Edwards based on what he saw in practice because Edwards is the best practice QB they have. Look......this team has a lot of problems. The QB, though, is the biggest problem. The O-Line has it's share of issues which is adding tot he problems of the QB. But, couple a bad O-Line with a scared Trent Edwards and it is not going to end well. And here we are.....Fitz is in.....Trent is out. I doubt it will make a difference in the wins and losses, but don't be surprised if it looks better. Don't be surprised if the O-Line looks better along with that. If Fitz gets the ball out on time, the O-Line will look better. The one thing I know about Fitz is that he is not scared to throw incompletions or picks. He is not an accurate QB by any means, but just seeing the ball come out more than 3-4 yards on a regular basis will make it more interesting to watch.

Personally, I would want Brohm to play. Do I think he would win us a lot of games? Of course not. But my reasoning is simple......we already know what we have in Edwards and Fitz. We have no idea what we have in Brohm. Edwards is gone after this year and Fitz is most likely out of here as well. Brohm is the only guy we don't have a great feel of yet. Personally, I would like to get a feel of what he can and can't do when the bullets are flying for real. He may not be as good as Trent or Fitz, but at this point, I'd like to find out for sure. But, moving Trent to the bench is a good start. Hopefully, we have seen the last of him on the field as a Buffalo Bill. Maybe Brohm gets his chance in a few weeks. I'm rooting for Fitz to do well because I want to see what we have in some of our other players, but I don't expect a drastic change. However, I do believe watching the ball go through the air (even if they are not completed) will help the games be more watchable at least. Guess we will see. The Cheatriots* are up next......not going to be easy for Fitz to come in and make somehting happen, but hey.......IT ISN'T TRENT.......you never know.

If you look.......this thread was started first. Not by much, but it was up first.

GOOD!!!!!! I don't think it will matter in terms of the outcome, but THANK GOD I don't have to watch Edwards again this week. At least it makes this week interesting. I would prefer Brohm because he is the only guy we don't know about completely, but this is a start. Maybe Brohm will get his chance in a few weeks. But this is a great start!!!!!

Until we get a QB that can strike any type of fear into a defense, we will not win anything. Right now, all the defense we have and will play will continue to put more and more people at the LOS because they know that even with Edwards does have time to throw, he will take the safest possible throw (dump off every time). Until we get a QB that at least attempts to throw the ball down the field on a regular basis (maybe even to the first down sticks), defenses will just send everyone at the RBs and Edwards and basically forget about the WRs. If nothing else, we need to change QBs now to at least make defenses question something.....even if our other QBs stink as well. They may not be accurate, but at least they will throw the ball down the field once in a while. Edwards is the most boring QB......and one of the worst QBs I have ever seen.

Anyone else watching Luck tear apart Wake Forest right now?
sven233 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah.....I have seen him in quite a few games, but I didn't know he had THAT in him. Very nice.......... -
Wow.......I have seen him play a lot of games, but he is putting on a show tonight. Already has 3 passing TDs and just had a 52 yard rushing TD! Oh......and there is still 8:00 left in the 2ND QUARTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 15-17 so far!!! I have watched all of the games today with all of the "potential QB's" and Luck has, BY FAR, been the most impressive so far! Sure, it is 1 game, and it is against an inferior opponent, but he is making it look easy so far. The biggest question I have with Luck is if he will even come out in the Draft this year. There is a good chance that he won't, but man, he would be nice to have as an option to choose from! Enjoy the rest of the game if you are watching! PS. I am not saying Luck is better than Mallet or Locker. Personally, I can see every one of them being successful in the NFL. I just want to make that clear. It is funny watching so many posters on a lot of these message boards (not naming any message boards in particular.....this one is tame compared to some)fighting over which guy they like more! I know some may not like this point, but I have to say it........WHY CAN'T THEY ALL BE GOOD IN THE NFL???? Who knows!!!! I mean, it seems like all of this fighting going one with some liking Locker, some liking Mallet, some liking Luck, etc. that they have to put down the other QBs in order to make their point of the guy they want being good. It is completely possible that all can succeed and have great careers in the NFL. We would be lucky to get any one of these 3 players after living through the CRAP we have had on this team at the QB position for the last 13 years! I will welcome any more of them with open arms! But Luck is just tearing it up right now. Fun to watch. Her is definitely making NFL throws right now.

I really wanted to hate this as well, but it was just too funny. I thought it was going to be terrible, and it probably was, but it was so fantastic at the same time! Funny stuff.

Well, this is great news for out LB corps, especially with how thin it is! SOURCE: http://twitter.com/StepnerWKBW

The QB is the problem......we all know it!
sven233 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly......this is not the day to stick up the the QB that played. He made a couple pretty good throws. The one that got called back due to the hold on AL was nice. The TD to Roscoe was pretty nice even if it was wide open due to a blown coverage. He also had a nice throw to Evans on the run that Evans didn't bring in, but it was still a decent throw. But the fact s he had 40 yards through 3 quarters. No defending that. In this league, you need a QB that can overcome adversity and make plays. Trent has not shown that he can do that, especially against a 3-4 defense. The O-Line has its own problems, but our QB does not help them out at all by holding onto the ball as long as he does. Very true. Edwards has to start the next game. He probably needs to start the game after that. But, if the trend continues, you need to shake things up or you are not being fair to the rest of the team. Edwards does not need to be pulled immediately. After all, it was the first game and it was filled with mistakes. BUT, if he continues they way he played today over the next couple weeks, a change will need to be made. And I do believe the coaching staff knows this. After all, Gailey did say in his PC after the game that this game was on him and the QB. He said that they were both big boys and could take the criticism. I like that. But Gailey doesn't strike me as a guy that will accept repeated mistakes. Edwards must improve and do it quickly. And the play-calling needs to as well. Having Edwards throw 30+ times a game is not going to get it done on a regular basis. -

sven233 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Obviously you are not blaming the QB.........you are blaming the O-Line for all the the QBs trouble. If that is the case, you don't know football. Trent had 40 FREAKING YARDS through 3 quarters. I don't care how many breakdowns a offensive line has, that is virtually IMPOSSIBLE to do. You are telling me that either Fitz or Brohm would have done that or worse through 3 quarters? I don't think so. Fact is that if the QB understood where to go with the ball and throw it on time, the offensive line would look a lot better. Just watch other QBs play the game. They get hit a lot as well. Rodgers took a BEATING today and still made throws. Was it his best game? NO! But he made plays and led his team to points even though his offensive line played terrible. Talk to the rest of the millions of people who watched the game today and just see where they put the blame as well. Yes, the offensive lines had breakdowns. EVERY TEAM'S LINE HAS BREAKDOWNS. But other QBs overcome it and make plays. Edwards can't. He has not been able to make plays in 3 years. You can count on 1 hand the number of big throws he has made in his career......let alone this game. throw this game out if you want. His play speaks for itself. Even the worst QBs in the league make plays once in a while. Name a play he has made in the last couple years that WON us a game. But that's OK........you defend the QB playing today. I guarantee that if another QB was playing today, he would have had more than 40 yards passing in the first 3 quarters no matter what O-Line he was playing behind. -

sven233 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watch the game and then we'll talk. There was a pocket a lot of the day. The announcers even commented on it a few times. The posters here saw it as well. Obviously you listened on the radio or something because you must not have seen the game. He did have time a good part of the day. Man, the people that stick up for Trent are amazing. When he is out of the league in a couple years or sitting on the bench as a third stringer, come talk to us then. Trent lost us this game. He should have had 2 pick 6's as well. He made 2.....maybe 3 good throws the entire game. Yes, the O-Line is bad (the Tackle positions mainly), but Trent can't read a defense, he can't feel pressure coming and he is scared to throw an incomplete pass. -
The QB is the problem......we all know it!
sven233 replied to sven233's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes, the O-Line needs help as well, but having a QB that drops back, steps up into the pocket (and as I said......THERE WAS A POCKET MOST OF THE DAY), and delivers the ball on time would make the O-Line look better. Let's face it, most of the pressure today came from the outside. BUT THAT IS WHY YOU STEP UP INTO THE POCKET!!!!!!! THE POCKET PROTECTS YOU AND RUNS DEFENDERS AROUND YOU!!!! THE POCKET IS YOUR FRIEND!!!! Instead, what Trent does is see the outside rush coming and instead of stepping up to avoid it, HE RUNS BACKWARDS SO THE OUTSIDE RUSH GETS TO HIM FASTER!!!!!!!! There is a rhythm when you play QB. Whether it is a 3 Step Drop, 5 Step Drop, or 7 Step Drop, as soon as you plant your back foot, you step up in the pocket and deliver the ball. It is called "getting the ball out on time." ONE, TWO, THREE.....STEP UP AND THROW. Easy concept. What Trent does is One, TWO, THREE......RUN BACKWARDS AND TO THE SIDE SO THE OUTSIDE RUSH CAN CATCH UP EVEN FASTER....HOLD THE BALL AS LONG AS POSSIBLE AND BARELY GET RID OF IT OUT OF BOUNDS (OR NEARLY THROW A PICK 6). I think part of Trent's problem is that he is scared to throw an incomplete pass. Honestly, I believe this is a problem. He waits forever (while running backwards) to throw the ball away. Many times he just takes the sack when there is plenty of time to just throw it away. I guess he cares more about his completion percentage than 3rd down percentage or winning percentage. Anyway, I have been done with Trent for a while now. I know we have crap behind him, but that crap is better than what Trent is.
