SI Article on Trades That Should Happen (a few Bills ones)
sven233 replied to RyanC883's topic in The Stadium Wall
Big fan of Alontae Taylor. I'd make that trade now if it could be done. They are not trading Knox. This TE room has the perfect blend happening right now. What they have them doing in the run game, coupled with what Hawes and Knox are doing opening up things for Kincaid is working great. They are more likely to restructure or even extend Knox next year than trade him this year. I think they have the perfect TE mix right now and there is no way I am messing with it. I would love to get a dominant run stuffing DT in here. But Beane hasn't really shown the same interest in a run stuffer that I have. A better backup RB would be nice, but I don't think they do anything there either. The next few weeks might tell us a lot about what we need going into the trade deadline. Gotta get some injured and suspended guys back and put it all on the field to see what it looks like. But if the Saints want to trade Alontae Taylor, I'll do that right now. In fact, what would it cost to steal one of their WRs? Olave or Shaheed would be PERFECT additions to our WR room. -
It's definitely encouraging to see the injured guys starting to come back. They would be welcome additions against a tough division matchup. That said, hopefully they will be healthy enough to make an impact. Oliver still looks like he has a bit of a limp. Not terrible, but noticeable. If he can't create the same explosion off the ball that he normally does, that's not great for a player that relies on that quickness and explosion. As for Milano, who knows where he's at. He's never been the best tackler out there and if he has to wear a harness, that isn't going to help matters. And of course that's just this injury. Do we really expect him to be able to get through the rest of the season healthy? I don't have much hope for that. As for the more serious injuries, I said it a couple weeks ago and I will say it again now. I don't think they open Hairston's 21 Day window until after the Bye at the earliest. It only makes sense. If they did it now, the last week would be the week of the Bye and they wouldn't be practicing as a team anyway. So, give him 3 more weeks and see where he's at then. If he's close, open up the window and maybe we see him by Week 11-13. As for Bass, I am in no hurry to see him kick over Prater. Prater has been more than fine and I have not been nervous once when he's kicking realistic FG distances where any kick with Bass has me chewing my fingernails. No hurry to get him back either. We have some roster decisions to make as it is with the suspended guys coming back. No need to rush the guys on IR on top[ of it.

SEPT. 28: Around the NFL, other games.
sven233 replied to Ridgewaycynic2013's topic in The Stadium Wall
As I said above, while I get why they do ties, I just think it is really anticlimactic for a game, especially like this one, to end in a tie. We just watched a 4 hour football game and we didn't get a winner. What makes it worse it that it was a really entertaining game that, had their been a winner, would have been in contention for game of the year. But no tie can be considered in that conversation if you ask me. I just think that as good of a game as this was, it will largely be forgotten sooner rather than later because there was no winner. I get people wanting to go to the college rules. But those rules do seem to have inherent flaws in terms of strategy and wanting to go second to know exactly what you need to do. I think a better solution is to do what the NFL does, but just repeat it until you get a winner. Coin toss. Possession by both teams. Repeat until you get a winner. Maybe make going for 2 mandatory. Or, if you don't want to do that, just keep the rules the way they are, but just don't have a time limit. Have a clock to keep track of all important timing issues, but make it so there isn't an end of game after a certain time. Make it so if what happens tonight happens, that the next score wins no matter what. The game just ends when the next team scores whether it happens in 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 23 minutes.....whatever it is. Just play until you have a winner. But these teams laid it on the line all week leading up to the game and then 4 hours during the game. There really should be a winner for the work they put in. -

Wow.....that was terrible clock management. They got extremely lucky to get out of there with a tie. That ball pops up in the air or something, that last second ticks off. A tie is fine, but man, I would love to move on to another OT. Feels kind of anti climactic after that game for it to end in a tie. Really wanted a winner. -
Ravens vs Chiefs Game thread (the Bills lamp is lit)
sven233 replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall
Just a few thoughts on this game. 1. You want to beat the Ravens? Score a couple of TDs on them early while getting 2 or 3 stops on defense. This gets Henry off the field and all of a sudden the 2x MVP has to do it by himself and he just can't. Their offense literally runs through Henry and he is the key to their success on offense. If they are one dimensional and you have no fear of a freight train running over you on every play, they are much easier to defend. And, while they have a ton of talent on defense, for whatever reason, it is not coming together for them yet. 2. The Chiefs are far from dead. In fact, when Rice comes back and they can put him out there with Worthy, Brown, and Thorton, I am not sure there will be a better overall WR corps in the league. 3. Mahomes is good. Really good. Not sure he is as good as the glazing he gets week in and week out, but he's good, especially when he has a full compliment of weapons. He may not be Allen that can make it work with a bunch of nobodies, but with the talent and speed they will be able to put out there when Rice comes back is going to be tough to handle. 4. Probably the most frustrating part of all of this is that they have Spags calling that defense. And with Jones in the middle of it, their defense is the reason that team has been as successful as they have. It doesn't matter how good their offense is a lot of the time because their defense is always dominant when they need it the most. Can we offer him like $20 mill this week to come run our defense? Anyway, it is what it is. It's a long season and so much can happen injury-wise to change things drastically. But I would suspect these are still the 2 teams we will have to get through to have a chance to win a Super Bowl. -

It's good to win. Of course it is and it's all that ultimately matters. But I am hoping one of these weeks we put it together on both sides of the ball from start to finish. Anyway....time to go watch the Chiefs and Ravens hopefully beat the crap out of each other for 60+ minutes.... -
Honestly, the players came through overall. There were ups and downs for all of them, but in the end, they made the plays that mattered. Allen, Shakir, Cook, all did their jobs. While the run defense was pitiful, they finally got the pass rush going the last 2 drives. We need to get Ed healthy ASAP. Bosa had an OK game overall, but man.....he showed he can be the difference maker we need in crunch time with the pass rushes he had down the stretch. I will have to watch the tape to see how he played most of the game, but Bishop made a game changing play at the end of the half. And, here's my weekly shout out to Hawes. What a difference maker he is for this offense. Does all the dirty things well and is serviceable enough in the pass game to make a big play every week. Love watching that kid block, though. The down? Easy.... the coaching staff. McDermott and both coordinators had a tough day I think. Yes, we scored 30 again. I get that. But man, some of the play calls on offense in the middle of that game were head-scratching. And the defense was shredded all day except for the last drive and a half. And finally, the offensive line I thought had their worst game of the season so far. Allen was constantly pressured. They opened up a couple nice holes for Cook, but Cook made them look better than they were today. We missed Brown badly.

Bosa with the strip sack with a nice clean up by AJ to end it. Took all game to get a pass rush, but man, they got it going the last couple drives. Not the game we expected, but still won by double digits. Crazy. Just wish they could put it all together from start to finish for once. Not sure this performance beats NE. Going to have to be much better. -

Johnston is one tough dude....I'll give him that. If he can kick next week, I will let him stick around just to reward the toughness. As for the FG..... Think I may have tried to end it right there, but I understand why they kicked. -

That was a terrible cheap shot there. We may have been looking for a new punter anyway, but we might definitely be looking for one now. That looked terrible. -

Horrendous series for the O-Line. Just terrible. And they had the play action on second down..... Ugh. It's never easy. -

I get that they want to play ball control offense and get everyone involved. That's all well and good when it's working. But this is the drive they should have called several drives ago. You have the best player on the planet. When you are struggling to get things going, just let him loose! Sometimes they just neuter him and it makes no sense. -

What an awful play call. You have JOSH FREAKING ALLEN. The ball needs to be in his hands there. The call to go for it was great. The actual play call was trash. -
