What if American football used soccer-style rules?
bbb replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The fact that there are only a few soccer fans here is not helping the argument that it is so popular. I've been giving pretty informed posts using actual footage, data, etc. And, all I get is called a bunch of names............I haven't posted in the WC thread, as I said a while back that I wouldn't do that type of thing. I've put down soccer, but that is the point of this and the other thread. But, I've attacked nobody personally. Strange that I'd be called the thin skinned one. -

No, I really wouldn't. Haven't these threads been started so as not to be the turd in the punch bowl by saying this stuff on the World Cup thread? But, you really have your panties in a bunch anyway. And, anybody who isn't on your side is misinformed, moronic, and idiotic, as you say above...........Even though they can't refute things with anything but name calling. You're talking about a circle jerk. I looked in there earlier and it's the same 5 or 6 guys trying to tell each other how smart they are about soccer. That's quite a circle jerk over there. -
I don't get it. How can it not be relevant? He's saying that they outdraw the NHL and NBA. Well, it would be pitiful if they weren't because their capacity is so much bigger than NHL/NBA. If I get time I'll look up NBA capacities later. MLB and NFL outdraw MLS, so that isn't part of what is being talked about here. Also, if you took those ultimate hipsters in Seattle out of it, it looks to me the NHL draws more even with the smaller capacity. Seattle (an aberation) really skews the average numbers. I'd rather have the NHL numbers which are really strong across the board, instead of having one super popular team and others in the 15K and less group.

But, hey you've got Sully on your side: http://www.buffalone...-pitch-20140617 The most positive article he's written in years. Of course, it has nothing to do with the game. Just the singing of songs, wearing of bandanas, and other precious stuff that goes on in this bar. Can you imagine how much he'd rip Bills or Sabres fans for doing these things - what small timers they would be, etc.: I like this article better: http://online.wsj.com/articles/why-i-hate-american-soccer-fans-1402012291 -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Soccer_attendance Here's the hockey link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_National_Hockey_League_attendance_figures#2012-13_attendance_statistics Hockey has only 4 teams under 90%! Compared to the 4 under 37% for MLS . And, those four are in the 80%. Lots of teams at 100% or better. Here's an espn link for hockey (in case people want to criticize wiki): http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance

Yeah, that seems to be the party line. But, nobody can refute the things I said in the other thread. Just call me names. In a game full of stupid rules, offsides takes the cake. It just kills so much offense. Hockey's is so much better. -

No. The bashing goes on much more often than every four years. You can expect one in the fall when John Adams starts his annual baseball bashing crusade. Also, the next time this never to be actually seen ESPN Sports Poll is quoted on espnfc about how soccer is the most popular thing ever in the US. JA will start a thread and the bashing will commence, since it will be coupled with put downs of MLB, the NHL and the NBA. But yeah - we're the ones that are being sensitive. Not the ones who are name calling, like you and your "ilk" as JA (Peace) would say. When you have no answers, call people names. That'll prove your point! -
Good stuff!
-
The reason MLS draws more than the NHL and NBA is because the stadiums are much bigger than the arenas. You never mention that. I do have to say that soccer is more popular than I was giving it credit for - seems to the "in thing" with young people. I'm not sure if that will last or if it will be like nascar. A lot of people seem to be into the experience than the actual game. Where did you see that about the Ghana game TV rankings?

I wonder if Colin Cowherd is going to do what he did four years ago. Take his espn marching orders and talk soccer, soccer, soccer. World Cup is so great. etc. Everything is so COOL. Then, the day after the final, he didn't even talk about it. Can you imagine the day after the Super Bowl, NBA finals, etc. - just not talking about it?

Check the football bible, bro.

You two are proving are proving my point.

I said they were great saves! Yeah, you really kicked my butt with your literal question, which you refuse to own up to.

I saw pics of his sister. She's smokin' hot. But, likes tattoos way too much and mars her look. I don't know how you can be skeptical of the injuries suffered when a grown man falls on you from 25-30 feet. One of the doctors said if he was leaning two inches forward, he would have been dead. He's not saying crazy things about the injuries. Seems like about what you'd expect to me.
-
How is it that I don't know what I'm talking about. I"m using stats, videos, espn writeups, etc. Are you disputing that there were 6 saves by the Mexico goalie? Why am I giving facts, etc. and all the attacks are against me personally - calling me names, etc. and not refuting what my points?...............Is that what you do when you have nothing to refute with? In a thread debating the merits of soccer, nobody should be on the other side of you, right? I didn't start the thread anyway. And, where's that credit card?!? You can just PM me the numbers!

From the Buffalo News the other day: Bratcher, 29, a middle school social studies teacher at South Buffalo Charter School, testified Thursday that the impact was a “crushing blow.” “The pain’s with me still today,” he said. When Hopkins fell on him, Bratcher said he was confused. “At that point, I had no idea what had just happened to me,” he said. Bratcher suffered injuries to his neck, back and shoulders and said he has a limited range of motion. “Any prolonged activities cause me discomfort,” he said, noting the difficulty he has sitting, standing and turning, which poses a problem at work. He said he missed two weeks of work and had to use all of his sick time. He isn’t able to participate in the recreational activities he enjoys, such as running. He also has trouble getting uninterrupted sleep because of the discomfort. Watching an entire movie with his girlfriend is out of the question, too. “Essentially my entire life was impacted,” said Bratcher, who has received physical therapy since November. He said his pain level fluctuates. http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/orchard-park/surveillance-video-shows-bills-fan-sliding-on-rail-5-times-before-fall-20140612

Super Dave has been on Norm MacDonald's podcast a few times. He's great...........And, their father was a successful comedian who died onstage at a roast right after killing it at the Friar's Club. He died young, but went out on top!

You make a good point!

The Bills are not moving to Brazil. There would be too many parking and traffic issues. So stop with all the Bills to Brazil rumors!

Here's the News article. “I really didn’t think anything was going to happen or go wrong. ... I did not think that I was going to fall.” And, now he's saying that he wasn't drunk (after he said he was). If he's 29 years old and going down that pole at least 5 times, he better be friggin hammered.................Otherwise, he's the biggest moron that ever lived.: http://www.buffalonews.com/city-region/courts/bills-fan-found-guilty-in-stadium-fall-case-20140617

They were great saves. They were the most saves of any Mexican goalie since the 1960s. The problem is there were 6 of them! A historic amount in soccer is what Henrik Lundquist would call a busy three minutes in hockey. And, I have used games I watched used games I've watched, youtube videos, espn articles - and yet get called a troll, an idiot, a tool and who knows what else. And, nobody has refuted anything I've said - just called me names and said I don't know what I'm talking about. I guess espn, etc. don't either. So, I guess it really doesn't matter if EII has watched the games or not.
