Agree.

I think ideally they would. But I just think the others are clearly superior players and with longer term potential. Green or Feeney will likely be retained on the PS and if they got an injury they'd be activated. The way the rules are these days encourages teams to keep the young developmental guys on the 53 and the experienced but limited vet guys on the PS.

I didn't see this posted, Bills sign Safety Tre Herndon
GunnerBill replied to SoonerBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall
He practiced for about 5 days before getting hurt... and while I agree the reports weren't glowing they weren't terrible either. There is a ton more information available..... 32 starts worth of game film from the University of Kentucky. And this is not saying you are only allowed to be positive..... but I'm not surprised you get push back on such a strong negative opinion (to the point of saying you will stop posting if you are wrong) based on reading a few scouting reports and 5 days of training camp his rookie year. -

So basically it is a gut feel based on reading scouting reports? -

Bishop can't go on PUP. Once you are in camp it's too late. He would have to go IR. I don't think I expect that at this stage... but even if he does Herndon is still a fair way down the pecking order. I think Rapp, Hamlin, Lewis, Forrest and even Hancock as a safety would all come in advance of Herndon. -

Yea I thought he sounded blunt on both Bishop and Samuel. There was some tangible frustration in his tone on both IMO. That said I agree with @gonzo1105 - this move is about making sure they can get through the Bears game without exposing their second stringers to too heavy a workload while Bishop and Rapp remain out. If who turns out to be a good pro? Hairston or Bishop? -
I agree that I think it will be someone other than KC in the Superbowl from the AFC this year. For both Buffalo and Baltimore it really has to be them. They have been the two teams vying for that #1 contender status consistently and yet the one other time in the past six seasons that it was someone other than KC it was the Bengals who sort of came from nowhere and have not as consistently contended. There is pressure on both the Bills and the Ravens this year to get it done. And if it is not KC but also neither of them then pressure will rachet up on both staffs IMO.

Yes. I still say it was. The number 1 priority for the Bills going into 2020 was they needed to come out of it knowing for certain whether Josh Allen was the guy. He had a mixed rookie year, took some steps in 2019 but with plenty of inconsistency still present and in 2020 they needed no excuses can he be the guy for this team. Much easier to make that assessment with a veteran, elite, wide receiver than with a rookie - however good that rookie ultimately is. If they were faced with a similar decision today and they traded for the vet I'd hammer them. They know who Josh is, take a swing on the young talent. But in 2020 the priority was finding out for sure on Josh Allen and trading for Stefon Diggs allowed them to do that more than drafting any receiver in that class would have. Also - though this supports your point re. them needing to better evaluate offensive talent - they weren't picking Jefferson there anyway. I have it on pretty good authority that at the point they made the trade the calculation they were talking through was vet Diggs vs rookie Tee Higgins. The draft was still six weeks away, so things could have changed.... but as at the point they made the trade I think the guy they were otherwise leaning towards picking at that spot was Tee. -

I think more likely the case the $15.28m is the money guaranteed at signing. I suspect the rest of the guarantees are in a team option bonus which triggers next spring and the construct of the contract makes an absolute certainty will be picked up. It's something Beane has used before as a tool when you want to amortise a good chunk of the money but your cap situation for the current year is tight so you can't stick a lot of amortised money on this year. That isn't to say the eventual number can't come in a shade under the reported numbers... both Shakir and Bernard did. But I suspect that is the major reason for the discrepancy on guarantees. The Elijah Moore takes in the spring were wild. He has all but disappeared since we got to camp. I don't know that he is a lock for the roster at this point. -
tbh... you're wrong.

Anderson does play center - he was the #2 center the entire pre-season last year and has done it in relief og McGovern when he has got nicked up in games. And they have used both Grable and Lundt inside some in camp as well as at tackle. As for Green... the Bills didn't use him at center last week even with Anderson out. He played RG on the 2nd string OL. Dan Feeney played center. With Brown, Anderson and Grable out and SVPG still on PUP they went: 1st string: Dawkins - Edwards - McGovern - Torrence - Van Demark 2nd string: Lundt - Gouraige - Feeney - Green - Van Demark

Walt is not an "analyst". If he is, I am. -
When has he proven that? He also got over 64% of his production in the slot. His production split was more like 70/30. It is beyond any level of reasonable doubt that he is a slot. If people want to argue that he is a big upgrade on Shakir and therefore worth the investment, fine. I'll listen to that. I do think his is a tier of slot above Shakir. But my feeling at the time and still now was the Bills dhould strive for an upgrade out wide.

I was talking regular season. In which case it is once in like 3 years. The Ravens last year. If the stat is made up, fair enough. I didn't post it. -

It's speed rush against the inside shoulder. That is where I think he still has a bit of a weakness. He did improve a tad the second half of the year last year... so if he can stay on the ascendency then he will earn his payday. -

Let's see how Cybo plays this year. I think he has been fine. I don't yet think he is someone I am rushing to pay. If he has a good year and it willing to take a reasonably team friendly deal I'm in. But if he wants to be in the $15m and over tier of guard deals I'm letting him play out year four before I even think about that. -

It's as I have said all offseason. Macro I want that gamebreaking ability to come from my receiving room not my running back room. But until I have it from one I'm unwilling to give it up from the other. I agree I am not a "pay running backs" guy. But in this situation I was always leaning slightly towards "pay Cook".- 563 replies

Beane's best draft since 2018 (for obvious reasons). Sadly looks like he followed it in 2023 with a bit of a dud. Big year for all those guys. -

Right now (before Cook details out) the Bills are less than a million over Spotrac the estimated cap of $307m. If recent years are anything to go by Spotrac has come in slightly on the conservative end prediction wise so my guess is the Bills right now would probably be very slightly under the cap. But there are some easy options for freeing up money. Ed Oliver, Dion Dawkins and Josh Palmer are easy restructures that get you up above $30m of space, Taron Johnson and Dawson Knox are both guys who will either be restructured or possibly cut dependent on performances in 2025 (and can get you another $12m) and then you are probably cutting Curtis Samuel to save around $6.5m. In contrast to this year the Bills don't have a ton of contracts coming up. That is largely because unlike this year where the 2022 draft class became due extension eligible and that meant Cook, Bernard, Shakir and Benford... the 2023 class that becomes eligible next spring is more questionable. Right now I think the right play on Kincaid is pick up the 5th year option then decide on whether to extend him AFTER 2026. O'Cyrus right now I'd allow to play out his deal and consider an extension before he hits free agency in spring 2027. Dorian Williams isn't even a starter right now - but might be about to step into a starting role in his final contract year if Milano doesn't come back.... so you make him earn it. Therefore my spring 2026 priorities are retaining Conor McGovern and seeing whether there is a deal that makes sense for David Edwards too. -

Yes. That $48 mill will essentially be spread over 5 years because the amortised signing bonus will start immediately and some of that money will hit the 2025 cap. EDIT: but the $5.7m cap charge already due this year has to be accounted for too. So if it's a 4 year $48m extension that leaves him with a 5 years $53.7m contract...... -

$12m sounds about right in relation to the Williams deal. As ever the details will matter in terms of how and when the team flexibility is built in. -

For sure, but a lot of the other top teams are rarely down that big either. We know, for instance, the Bills have lost once by more than a score over like 3 seasons now so most of their losses are close going into the 4th. My guess is if you crunched the numbers of Philly and Baltimore that would be similar.
