  1. The website and him as a person are by far my two biggest issues with walterfootball.
  2. I had a similar though but Beane ruled it out the other day and walked back the idea that Williams could only play outside.
  3. The difference is Ed is actually good. So it makes little sense to sell him for pennies. Whereas Queen... if Baltimore got a 5th back for him that would be a decent return. It is more akin to the Bills trading Cody Ford.
  4. I have scored my final mock by the www.fantasypros.com methodology. They scored 171 mocks this year from various experts. Mine would have ranked 24th. In terms of some of the higher profile guys: I was behind both Walterfootball guys and Daniel Jeremiah but ahead of Dane Brugler (The Athletic), Charles Davis (in fact all the NFL guys except DJ), Mel Kiper, Todd McShay and my guy Matt Miller (ESPN) Albert Breer (SI). It was a low scoring year too. So a tough year for mocking.
  5. Peyton Manning took 9 years to reach a Superbowl. Drew Brees took 9 and a change of teams. Aaron Rodgers has been to 1 in his 15 years as a starter. Philip Rivers never made it. It isn't get a franchise QB, click your fingers and win a Lombardi. I don't consider the last two years squandered. Do I think they have made some mistakes they deserve criticism for? Sure. Do I think they could have coached and/or played better in some spots? Yes. But they haven't squandered two seasons. They have just failed to reach their ultimate goal. As for contenders... I think there are AT LEAST six legit Superbowl candidates on the AFC side this year. There are another couple that wouldn't shock me. It's a much smaller number in the NFC, more like 2 or 3. But what is your standard for a "bitter disappointment" or a "squandered" season? Because it feels like it is anything short of winning a Superbowl. Did Philly squander it last year? They had the best roster in football. It just isn't that simple. None of which means that the ownership, coaching, quarterbacking and general performance shouldn't be scrutinised. Or that they are above or should be immune to criticism. Of all people I am not someone who believes that. It is the "anything short of a Superbowl must be considered failure" attitude I struggle with. It undervalues the work and sacrifice that goes into a season where the Bills won 14 of 18 football games. It is the same attitude that says if a team doesn't have a top 5 QB they shouldn't bothet paying a 2nd tier guy and trying to build around him they should just tear down and try and tank. It doesn't reflect the reality of sport.
  6. I wasn't suggesting it called into question your loyalty. But to call any season that isn't a superbowl year a bitter disappointment suggests the only enjoyment you can get is from winning a Lombardi. I hope the Bills win the Superbowl. I think they have the potential too. But the likelihood is they won't. That is the same for all 32 teams. Only one ends the season happy.
  7. That is the goal, absolutely. But it isn't that or bitter disappointment. If you are only in sport for the winning a lifetime of disappointment awaits. It's the climb. You have to enjoy these years of the Bills being in contention year after year. Not count them down worrying about then they will run out. Sport fandom is supposed to be fun.
  8. I can't think of a single team AJE or Boogie start for. I don't think 1 out of 8 who starts for the team beyond a first contract is a good outcome.
  9. I didn't scout Bernard I went back and watched what I could find post draft so not quite the same but I prefer Williams's upside. Definitely.
  10. Agree. I think the Bengals are pretty close to where we were last year. It's why I'm surprised they didn't bring either safety back. I actually don't mind what they did at Tight End. Irv Smith Jr is a decent low risk, high reward swing at for the fences. And they have upgraded at left tackle.
  11. There is definitely something in this. Day 2 is either the higher ceiling guys with flags (some of those may just be about rawness of their game some will be off field issues) or it is the safe higher floor, low ceiling guys who are a bit more lunch pail. Given those choices Beane's preference has generally been for the latter. In fact Knox and Spencer Brown are probably the two "swings" they have taken on day 2. Generally they have taken safer guys. I'm not sure Bernard would ever have gone in round 1 though. I didn't look at him pre-draft, admittedly, but I did watch some of him post draft and pre-season and there was nothing there that blew me away in any facet of his game. I think that one might just be that they whiffed. Boogie was a whiff too. I think they thought he was a swing for the fences guy, not a high floor guy. He isn't the player they thought he was IMO.
  12. I'm sorry I disagree. I disagree with you on Brown and I disagree on Jawaan Taylor being better. I suggest you go watch some of his Jacksonville film. Brown is a much better player than Taylor is all facets. If you want to compare their careers at right tackle the discrepancy is huge. The chances of a worse right tackle than Brown being a better left tackle than Brown are next to none. I don't make any comment on Morris, maybe he is a diamond in the rough. But if he isn't Smith and Taylor as a tackle combo is a downgrade on what the Chiefs had last year.
  13. Well Aaron needs his boyfriend within easy reach....
  14. 100% correct. Beane has not had a 1st rounder bust. People can question whether Tremaine ever fulfilled his full potential and can ask the same with Ed but they are both, unquestionably, good NFL players. If only his record on day 2 was as good. I think Beane has been one of the best round 1 drafters and one of the best day 3 drafters. His day two record... Harrison Phillips (never a starter and walked after 1 contract) Cody Ford (never nailed a starting role and traded after 3 seasons) Devin Singletary (starter but walked after 1 contract) Dawson Knox (good starter, re-signed to a second contract) AJ Epenesa (never been more than a rotational player going into contract year) Zack Moss (traded away early in 3rd year) Boogie Basham (still buried on the depth chart going into year 3) Spencer Brown (starter who showed some flashes as a rookie, bad second season, going into vital 3rd year) Won't breakdown Cook and Bernard as 1 year probably isn't sufficient to take a view but it's a poor record with Dawson Knox the one success story.
  15. And be one of the best run clubs in the country. It is the great shift of the last 15 years in English football I think that it kind of didn't used to matter if a club was a bit of a basket case behind the scenes, you could stumble across a good manager, sign a few star players and be successful. I don't think you can do that now. You look at the clubs who are being successful (relative to their status) and it is clubs who have really nailed it off the pitch, have a club strategy and ethos and bring managers and players in that fit that ethos rather than building around a manager or star players. Brighton, Brentford, Luton etc... on the other hand Manchester United have outspent everyone since Ferguson retired but have lurched from half baked strategy to half baked strategy hiring big name managers without ever developing a clear sense of who they want to be. And then the Boehly experiment so far at Chelsea.
  16. Yea and we lost 1-0 to 10 men with an injury time goal from their backup left back (think he was name Lee Briscoe?) I've just always found Villa Park very "meh". The atmosphere whenever I have been has ranged from "non-existent" to "toxic." I hate the tunnel in the corner thing, I don't think the view from the away section is all that great. I am normally a fan of the older grounds, I love Goodison despite the fact the facilities are atrocious, it smells, and it shakes... I just find Villa Park a bit soulless.
  17. If you haven't listened to Beane on the Chris Long Green Light podcast then go and listen. Some really interesting insight into the trade conversation with Jacksonville. Basically the Jags were all in on Harrison and Beane had to basically tell Trent Baalke who he was taking to get them to do the deal (which is not usual).
  18. At this stage trading him just leaves us with a huge hole. We will start the season with him as our best defensive lineman if Von is out. Yea if youbare going to throw a late round pick at a high upside linebacker that is the one to do.
  19. Desperation move. I have never been a huge Smith guy. I was slightly incredulous when the Buccs extended him a few years back. However, the Chiefs ARE desperate at offensive tackle. They are currently hoping on a wing and a prayer that a career average right tackle is suddenly going to turn into a serviceable left tackle and a 4th year player with 9 starts suddenly turning into a serviceable right tackle. I haven't watched a lot of Morris, maybe they have unearthed a gem, but they will need to have done so, because otherwise I think their tackle situation is like season sinking bad. I think Smith is probably their starting left tackle.
  20. Nope. He was a disaster in Baltimore. Hence the huge trade and pay for Smith. He was a 1 season wonder coming out. Suddenly played like a 1st rounder on that amazing LSU run having looked like a day 3 guy the rest of his college career. I think we can now make a pretty safe assumption about which was the abberation.
  21. The Chiefs game was coaching error. No doubt. But McDermott isn't going anywhere with another playoff season. I guarantee it. And if we lost to the Dolphins it was the players who deserved firing not McDermott. He didn't commit reckless, unnecessary turnovers. That was all on the players. If the Bills have a losing record he could go, but in that scenario Beane would be out too. And I just don't see them having a losing season. And that is why I just don't see a route. Pegula isn't firing them unless he absolutely has to, especially with Kim's condition. He has no desire to spend weeks on end leading a GM and coaching search in Bufflo away from his wife. I am much more of a McDermott supporter than you. And even I think McDermott is safer than he should be.
  22. If they are worn down they are worn down. But injuries like the ones the Bills had last year were nothing to do with worn down. They were bad luck. I accept some of their older guys on defense are not a lock to come back at their former level and they are banking on that.... but injuries is more often than not luck. And I was saying that when folks here a year ago were lauding the Bills amazing S&C staff and their record of avoiding injury. As for Josh's elbow. I disagree. I said the day he did it I thought he should sit with it and I basically felt like our Superbowl shot last year was gone. Because without Josh at his best this team can't win a Superbowl. I think it was a mistake for him to play. He did because the Bills were all in on the season.
  23. Possibly. But Josh, Poyer and Oliver to name three were playing when they shouldn't have been. The Bills had gone "all in" on 2022 and then got the injury bug.
