I am arguing for Keenum. But I am arguing for trying anything better than Kyle Allen. And there is lots of that. I don't think PJ Walker is good, just like you don't think Kyle is good. I think one might have a better chance than the other of moving the ball on this team.

'Cos when he played he was terrible and he was beaten out by Kyle Allen. Who is terrible.
-
I won't. Don't you hide if Kyle is utter trash either.
-
I've given the reasoned evaluation multiple other places. He has zero pocket awareness, skittish feet and has already demonstrated an ability to blow the timing of a play and walk into pressure. When he sets and throws he isn't terrible. But those plays are less than a third of what he has put on tape pre-season.

Benford - Was he being showcased? (Opinion, not a rumor)
GunnerBill replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall
There have been multiple reports that Benford has just got better and better as camp has gone on and then they went with Benford on Saturday. To me it at the very least suggests the three man race is down to two and Benford and Dane were nip and tuck. But if I had to have a bet right now, I'd put it on Benford playing the most snaps other than Tre week 1... the "start" matters less to me and I suspect Benford and Dane will both play some (similar to the way Dane and Kaiir both played in the two playoff games). But I think Benford is favourite to win the snap count. He was a 5th rounder. -
I disagree. He is a better runner than Kyle. And that might be how a backup QB has to win for us. Kyle is trash. There is nothing between him and Barkley. They are both bad. Barkley knows how to play the position but has zero arm. Kyle can actually throw a nice ball but has zero awareness of how to play the position.

I don't think PJ Walker is a great passer but his legs might give us a route to move the chains. I am worried we won't be able to move the chains at all with Kyle Allen. I should say it isn't Kyle Allen's throws that I worry about so much. They are of typical backup Quarterback standard. It is a guy behind our line with no pocket presence, no pocket awareness, and very little escapability.

Over Kyle Allen?? Yes.

And he is a much more obvious scheme fit there than he has ever been here. -
We better run for 300 yards then. I'm with whoever said above if the Bears go with the kid who went 2nd against us I'd bring PJ Walker in. At least his mobility gives us a shot at moving the chains.

I can't remember watching him play for Carolina when he made a few starts. Based on the numbers I was cautiously optimistic. But what has me concerned about his pre-season is nothing to do with game planning or play calling it is his general skittishness and lack of pocket awareness. He is atrocious. I think you could have Bill Walsh gameplanning and playcalling and the pocket awareness would still be a problem.

No I just want someone better. And there are lots of them. Kyle Allen sucks.
-
Nobody is disputing if Allen goes down for the season we are done. But what if he breaks a finger on his throwing hand? That is a "you can't just play with it you are going to miss at least 2 or 3 games" you want a guy who can get you through.
-
There are injuries that won't keep you out long but that mean you can't play. The whole "backup QBs don't matter" thing is so tiresome. Of course it matters.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
GunnerBill replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think someone will choose him as a WR2 when he hits FA. It won't be a contender like the Bills, but someone will. -
Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season game 3
GunnerBill replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
See I think Gabe is a #2. But he isn't a "good" #2. He is a lower end low volume, high output guy. And as he goes into a contract year his route to improving that is to offer more in the short game. When you look at the way the short game is played one of the shorter routes that best fits his skillset is the slant.... and he dropped a ball on a slant. My post isn't saying "man Gabe Davis sucks" it is saying unless he improves in that facet he is what he is. And the early returns were not as encouraging as they could have been. -
Didn't Belichick do that with kickers a couple of seasons back for like the first 3 or 4 weeks? Didn't roster one had two on the PS. If Barkley was healthy I don't actually think that would be the worst idea I have ever heard. There isn't much between them, they both know the scheme.... continue the competition for 6 weeks until you have exhausted the call ups and give yourself an extra roster spot to manage any short term injuries. As it is I think Allen will be on the 53 unless someone else comes in but I think their ideal is to bring someone in and they will turn over every rock to do so.
-
They were in on Trey Lance who is definitely not a ready now option so I am not sure they are confining themselves to that. I think they feel pretty confident they could get Allen on the PS and elevate him.

Film Session With An Amateur: Bills/Bears
GunnerBill replied to BillsShredder83's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hmm. Looks like the LTs to me. Of the three defenders at the second level they both end up blocking the one furthest to the inside. I would think that was the guard's responsibility and Dion should be blocking one of the outside guys. But equally without the play call hard to know. It might even be that it was a called combination block on the guy they block and they think the two outside guys are irrelevant because the play is designed to go up the gut. But because 93 penetrates Cook has to bounce (which wasn't the design) and therefore the two 2nd level players on the outside are still in the play. Clearly something didn't quite work as called but hard to identify what. -
Big Sweaties Report, 8/27/23 @ Chicago Bears
GunnerBill replied to Ralonzo's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yea the first one he loses the first half of the rep and wins the 2nd half. The second one he is totally beat off the bat. His worst rep of pre-season. On Boettger I agree with @Ralonzo that he isn't beating any of the other contenders out at guard, but I do think this was comfortably his best game of the 3. I suspect the Bills will try and PS him to give him more time to recover from the achillies (and because they love him as a guy) but it shouldn't be at the expense of Anderson who would be my priority IOL for the PS (on the basis I think he will be the last OL cut from the roster). -
I really don't. I think they are going to try really had to bring in a QB.
-
He is right a trade makes no difference. Keenum being cut does potentially (unless the rules have changed and nobody has come up with a comprehensive answer on that).
-
I mean whether he said it or not them being in on Lance kinda proves the point, right? I expect someone else to be on the Bills roster by the end of the week as a backup QB. Kyle Allen on the PS but possibly with him elevated week 1 to serve as the backup giving the new guy 2 full weeks to learn the offense.

Are the Dolphins obviously better than the Bills?
GunnerBill replied to Giuseppe Tognarelli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nope. Try again.
