It is well known Terry loved Mahomes. But Sean McDermott not taking the word of his owner who has zero track record as a scout and not taking the word of a GM he didn't trust and was about to part from was hardly surprising. He didn't trade that pick so he could take a DB. He traded that pick to give his guy - Beane - the capital the following draft. Don't get me wrong it was the wrong decision. But the wrong decision for the right reasons.

His struggles were very specific. He actually dealt pretty well with the big powerful DT types. His issues are against the twitchier guys and the outside rushers shunted inside on obvious pass downs. The concern is some of that is footspeed. But (without being an OL expert) I expect that there must be some technique stuff about how you set yourself on those downs to try and mitigate some of it?

Exactly. To beat the Bills you almost always have to play your best game for 60 minutes, physically and mentally. Possibly the Bengals in last year's playoffs when the Bills had a rare no-show is the exception to that. But Buffalo is a game that teams have circled in their schedule now. We get most people's best shot.

But they have been the best team in their conference in the regular season. I feel like that should be rewarded. Honestly I never liked the 1 and 2 seed bye thing. I much prefer only the #1 seed having the bye. What is the justification for the #2 seed getting a bye other than it allowed them to have a 6 team playoff pool? There is justification for rewarding the 1 seed IMO.

Yea, for sure. A combination of positional value and limited scheme fit. I didn't have a 1st on him because you have to be an elite guard prospect for me to give you a 1st.

I was against the 7 team playoffs when they introduced it. I'm actually in favour of it now. While I agree it has generally meant the wildcard games have been a bit more predictable I like the idea that winning your conference means something, the same way winning your division does, and it has definitely reduced the number of pointless games the final couple of weeks of the regular season. If you gave me free reign both on 17 games and 7 team playoffs I'd reverse the former but retain the latter.

Good people. Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer both belong on the Wall IMO. I'm not sure if the Bills would ever do this but I'd even support them going up as "Hyde & Poyer". Because the thing with this pair is the partnership was greater than the sum of its parts. Yea I think it is. They might lower the base salary convert a bit to bonus and spread it over a void year to kick a couple of mill into next year. Another victim of the fact that half the league wants to run the Kyle Shanahan offense without Kyle Shanahan. O'Cyrus isn't the natural bender or lateral mover that you generally look for in that scheme. And once you don't fit that scheme at the moment on offense the number of landing spots for you cuts almost in half. You go from 32 teams who could pick you to about 16. Really solid rookie year. Some inside speed rush issues in the middle of the year - particularly when teams are putting their edge guys inside to attack his inside shoulder - but pretty solid. He gave up 3 sacks and 40 pressures. Trey Smith of the Chiefs, who is one of the best right guards in the league, gave up 2 and 34.

Yea agree with all that. They need a guy who by the end of his rookie year is the best receiver on the team. Then either later in this draft or in next year's they gotta find the compliment to that guy's skillset. And agree re. Legette. He turns 23 in a week. That means 5 year contract he is 28... even if you do the extension at the 4 year mark as you'd presume they'd want to if he pans out that is 27.... I like him and I'd be willing to do it but you have to do it conscious that there is a chance you do a 1 contract, or one contract and tag type situation. I'd be willing to guarantee 6 minimum in round 1. As you say 8 would not be a shock. Demand is high and especially for outside guys it comes after a year without many true #1 type outside receivers. It was like last year everyone was a slot or inside/outside move guy. This year everyone (except Nabers) is an outside vertical guy.

Yes, we do. But Kingsbury is speed above almost all else in a receiver room. I think it takes the task from add 1 or 2 to add 4 or 5.

Kliff's offense is all about speed. He wants to spread you out, force you to cover 1v1 then have a faster guy than you have.

This is just wrong. We run tons of picks and crossers. They are E-P staples. I will say I think under Dorsey they relied too much on guys executing 1v1. But that was the plays he called rather than the scheme. Under both Daboll and then again since Brady took over there have been pick plays and crossers aplenty that have got people open.

They did win a playoff game.... but there was a lot of luck about the Giants last year. No doubt.

Would need to radically alter the WR room. But it is an offense with at least enough similarity that there would be some conceptual carry over. But we'd need more speed for sure.

Sure, but I think Puka Nacua is a bit of an outlier. Otherwise the non-early picks among that list are slot receivers. Jayden Reed, Josh Downs, Tank Dell - I like those guys but that isn't what the Bills need. I like where Shakir is. A shifty underneath / slot receiver isn't what will take this offense on. Dell is probably a bit more than that because he is a genuine home run threat every time he touches the ball, but still my point stands. The explosive outside guys will go early. Yea I read that yesterday. Sure, we need to get younger at some spots on defense. But that wouldn't be priority #1 for me.

Yea. I get it because I liked him just watching a couple of Florida State games this year. But the more you really dig into him the more red flags there are. I think he will be a faller in the process. I definitely don't think he ends up going round 1. I think the Thomas, Legette, Franklin tier will rise. They are all going to test well I think and honestly I think all of their tape has more to get excited about when you think of NFL transition.

We need more explosion on the outside. Sure I think we need a couple of pieces on defense - DL and Safety will have holes - but the primary focus should be explosive outside playmakers. I will give them some credit... they focussed on OL last offseason (a year too late by my estimation) and it worked. They added Kincaid, that worked too. But the explosion outside needs to come this year.

I am not that keen on Washington as a coach in general... wouldn't be sad to see him go.... but overall I think there has been some development of some guys on the Dline since he has been here - Ed and AJ obviously. I put a lot of the Dline failures on Beane as much as anyone. If he brings Jordan Phillips back again I am buying one of the pitchforks on sale around here at the moment....

It's a good question as to what their "type" is. Their two highest draft picks at the position - Gabe and Khalil are polar opposites and Stef isn't really like either of them. I get wanting to build a diverse room but I don't have a strong sense as to what they will be looking for. We know some of the guys they have passed on... and we have very strong evidence to suggest they loved Addison last year... but I don't know that I can discount or enhance the claims of particular players at the position as Bills fits in the way I can with some other teams.
