Is Josh a mediocre QB right now? And does it matter?
GunnerBill replied to Beck Water's topic in The Stadium Wall
In relative terms. Josh was still a good NFL Quarterback down the stretch last year but he wasn't the top 5 guy we had got used to. It was a mulligan on him not being close to his best level. I am not saying he was Carson Wentz or Daniel Jones or anything. -
When did I say anything about him being near Carson Wentz?
-
The fact that people have gone overboard. When I watched the All22 on Wednesday I actually thought the numbers flattered his play. There were a lot more wrong decisions than the 3 interceptions.
-
I am not gonna call the defense good until they can line up properly. Both the big runs the Bills were misaligned.

I agree I basically gave him a mulligan last year for that reason. But then you see some of the same issues this year and you think how much was elbow vs how much is decision making. -
Singular point imo when Josh started regressing

Yea I put myself through it on Wednesday night. -

Yea I wasn't saying he has sucked for 13 games. He has had some decent games in that time but only the Miami game where I thought he was elite level Josh. -

Yea I am not that level of concern yet. But I do think the fact we have seen elite Josh just once in 13 games going back to Green Bay suggests there is more than just "he had a bad day" going on. There are issues with his game right now that need fixing and I think most of the issues are in Josh Allen's head. -

Yea I took all the offseason stuff with a pinch of salt. I only mention 'cos @DrDawkinstein mentioned the Halloween party. -

That is rumoured to be where Brit confronted him about the alleged affair in front of teammates, right? I don't know how true any of that way but that was the timing rumoured in that thread. It was at the Halloween Party. -

There were plenty of open guys. Honestly. Diggs wasn't actually open that much because as soon as he edged towards a defender's zone, that defender was on him. There were plays where Diggs was triple covered. That isn't to say that the wide receiver were perfect by any means.... but the Bills had open receivers in the short and intermediate zones plenty on Monday. Josh just wasn't throwing to them. -

I agree with all of that.... but getting guys open wasn't the problem on Monday. There were plenty of open throws if Josh wanted to make them. -

There are lots of plays where our clear oits worked and we had simple chain moving throws there for Josh. He didn't make them. -

Diggs does scare defenses like those other guys. There were plays on Monday night where the Jets almost had 3 guys covering him because as soon as he got to the edge of theit zone they were attracted to Steph. Our OL has been bottom 3rd the last two years. No disagreement there. It didn't play like a bottom 3rd of the league unit on Monday though. -

He was elite that day. That is the only elite performance since that Packer game though. So it is a thing. -
If it falls apart when Tee goes, yes.
-
San Fran, yes. Cos they don't have a top flight QB. They need to elevate him. With the other two they didn't know at the point they added the 2nd guy. If they remove the second guy and it falls apart it ain't the right guy. If you can't make it work with Diggs, David, Knox and Kincaid it is the wrong QB. It was odd cos the QB turned a scripted play into a scramble drill unnecessarily.
-
The point is if Tua needs those two to be good he is the wrong guy. We won't find out until the contract issue forces the point.
-
If your QB needs Diggs and Harrison to be win you have the wrong QB.

1. We didn't run 4 WRs most of the year, we ran 11 personnel most of the year. But he didn't get more opportunity to see the ball because he struggled getting open. 2. Hodgins got some shots in New York because their WR depth was awful. Good luck to him.
