I'd lean the other way against a clever coach like Reid. He'd have had Williams spinning like a top.

The long term advantage I see in a guy like Kliff would be you are unlikely the face the "1 or 2 good years and he is a HC again" issue. I am fine with Brady getting the gig, I think he is one of the better candidates tbh. But if the Bills offense hums next year he is gone. He had a HC interview this year after a season and a half as a QB coach and 6 or 7 games as an OC. He had HC interviews before after a pretty ropey season as the Panthers OC. If the Bills are good he gets a Head Coach job. I think Kliff's road back to a Head Coaching job in the NFL is a very long one. Not respected as a leader, basically a play caller in way over his head running a team, his teams never finish (his record down the stretch of the season as a HC in college and the pros is abysmal). It would take more than 1 or 2 good years calling plays for Josh Allen to make him a serious HC candidate again. I think he is a guy you might get 3-5 years of at the spot (which is a lifetime of continuity in the modern NFL). In terms of scheme carry over there is some spread concept in what we do, was under Daboll, less under Dorsey, started to come back a bit under Joe. But you would need a pretty radical re-make of the WR room I think and you might need to think longer term about left tackle because Dion would be living on an island a LOT. I do see the logic in him as a candidate. But I'd be surprised if the Bills go that route knowing what we know about how they value character.

Williams is great at running and hitting. He just has no idea where he should be. Klein never blows an assignment but looks like his legs move in treacle. I said it before the game - there was no good solution. When you are down to linebackers 5 and 6 there rarely is. That is the NFL. Nobody has functional depth going to their third string at a spot.

Sunday’s Loss Was Just a Replay of the Win in KC
GunnerBill replied to st pete gogolak's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yea I am a huge Ed Oliver guy and over the years he has had very good games against KC even if the "stat box" hasn't shown it necessarily. Sunday was not one of them. The Chiefs interior oline is the best in the NFL for my money and they won that battle against Oliver and Jones handily. -
THE ROCKPILE REVIEW - I Just Love the Bills

That isn't a rabbit hole. That's life. It is especially sports. You fail more than you succeed. It's the climb. -
Who are your top 10 QBs in the league
GunnerBill replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
1. Mahomes 2. Allen 3. Burrow 4. Jackson 5. Herbert 6. Prescott 7. Hurts 8. Stafford 9. Stroud 10. Love I am probably too low on Stroud and Love but I am a guy who generally wants to see you back it up before I go all in. And I am not rating Rodgers in this. Haven't seen him all year and while at 30 that wouldn't worry me at 40 it does. He'd be 6th based on his play the last time I saw him. But too much guess work as to how he'd play now. -
To Patrick Mahomes x2 and Joe Burrow. We are losing to fighters in Allen's weight class so to speak. Now I get it is frustrating as hell losing to them.... and we have had our chances to beat them. Including on Sunday when for all the failures Josh and the offense had the chance to go and win the game at the end. They didn't execute. Easy. That rookie can't call the defense and has struggled to even line up right. Twice in the Steelers game and once in his limited snaps agains the Chiefs he was clearly in the wrong spot and teammates were trying to move him as the offense snapped the ball. If you'd have started him the Chiefs would have gone right after him too. It is the result of being down to your third string linebackers.

Another coach trashing thread. Goodo. -
Yep. The reason it fell apart with Belichick is he wanted control. Blank didn't want to give it up. It was obvious to me right away he was on about Atlanta. Lombardi is a Belichick disciple going back to the Browns days.

Falcons hire Rams DC Raheem Morris as head coach
GunnerBill replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
See I'm not even sure about that. He is coming from a situation with a vet QB who is good at understanding and playing within a structure and the best offensive line in football. He goes the Washington with no QB, a bad oline and only one legit weapon on offense. And then for good measure their defense finished the year last in yards and points. I know why the Commanders brass have gone for Johnson. It is a coup in their first hiring cycle to get the hot young OC. But to me Washington was a spot I'd have said hire an experienced HC. The best spot for Ben Johnson was LAC or even Atlanta where get a QB and that offense could click quickly. If Washington is patient and gives Johnson time it could work out. But if he doesn't win early (and it is a tough division) will the new ownership group wanting some momentum stay the course? I feel him and the Spanos family is an explosion waiting to happen. He will be successful, he is a very good coach. But it will be short lived. -
We are definitely not.

Falcons hire Rams DC Raheem Morris as head coach
GunnerBill replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
It is not a ringing endorsment of Mayo. But I think all the other hires feel like bad mesh of person, team and situation. -
Yes they did but the return game both ways overall has been worse than recent years.

The Bills are not a quick fire team on this stuff.

Falcons hire Rams DC Raheem Morris as head coach

Raheem Morris and Justin Fields..... just re-doing all the decisions they have screwed up the past few years. Shoulda hired Raheem after he was interim instead of Smith. Should have drafted Fields instead of Pitts. -

They should have hired him instead of Smith tbh. That was his time. -

Genuinely the fit I like best of all the hires so far is Mayo succeeding Belichick. And I did NOT expect to be saying that. I don't like any of the other fits of Head Coach and Franchise. -
Yea I agree with Joe. If he caught everything I'd live with his lack of separation but he doesn't. I think the Bills need is not a compliment for Diggs. It is a guy who has passed him by the end of next season as this team's #1. For me the top 3 fit that but will be gone. Legette fits it and might be there. Franklin and Thomas are bigger gambles but have the chance to.

Washington are very keen on him. Does he want that? The best job for him was the Chargers. The best job for Harbaugh was the Raiders. If they just let me match them coach with team they'd all be more successful
-
Yea, they didn't bring Fangio in to help them beat the bad teams. They were beating the bad teams with Josh Boyer's defense. Fangio was supposed to be a big upgrade. And he wasn't. With good talent they were still an average defense. Yea that is fair that you normally see his results year 2. And I think Miami wanted to keep him.

Interesting stat I saw in regards to regular season losses
GunnerBill replied to warrior9's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think coaching lost us three games this year. Denver on McDermott's cover zero and 12 men on STs. New England on McDermott's awful game plan and Dorsey's not much better. Cincinnati on Dorsey who was an absolute playcalling disaster that night. I think that is more than previous seasons and it does bear watching. Josh cost us the Jets game. Bass cost us the Philly game. The field and the jetlag probably cost us the Jags game. -
Yea but I'd be gutted we'd missed the real difference makers.

At the moment 4 of those picks will be 6th and 7th rounders. A good chance that you are keeping those guys over better players which might not be wise. And they did activate Shorter's 21 day practice window coming off IR. I suspect the fact that it closed without him being elevated suggests they didn't think he was fully healthy.
