She's in the big time now. No need for the little people. -
I don't know much of AD's politicks, but anybody who can appreciate the music of Alan Holdsworth and Steve Hackket is ok in my book. (even if he does live in an igloo! ).

It is great to see another poster who appreciates the talented Allan Holdsworth. I love his stuff on the first UK album and his efforts with Tony Williams and Jean-Luc-Ponty. -

I always shudder when Beyer likes one of my horses in a triple crown race. I did a 2$ exacta box with Greely, Closing Argument and High Fly.
-
I haven't checked the form yet but heres my 2 cents. Closing Argument: Proably ran the best race in the Derby because he was closest of the top 3 finishers to the suicidal pace and was only beaten a 1/2 length. Question is did the Derby take a lot out of him? If he runs back to the last race then I think he takes this field. Greelys Galaxy: Ran a very a good race 3/4 into the Derby and jockey eased up on him when he felt he could not win. Has one of the top pre Deby speed figures. The lightly raced horse could be sitting on a big effort. High Fly: Bailey may have made a premature move in the Derby and will not make the same mistake twice. This horse has the speed to rate just off of the front runners-but will he have enough turning for home? Afleet Alex: Only 1-5 in races longer than a mile. Will be coming at the end but what was his excuse in the Derby when he could not outkick Closing Argument and Giacmo? I would use him underneath in exacta/trifecta/superfecta boxes but would bet aginst him winning as the favorite. Giamco: The Rodney Dangerfield of horse racing as he is getting no respect despite winning the Derby. A full field awaits him in the Preakness, many of which he trounced in the Derby so that tells you what most of the top trainers think of him. Is he a horse flying under the radar, improving at just the right time? or was he just in the right place and time to pick up the pieces in a Derby that fell apart in a suicidal pace? His sire Holy Bull was a very nice horse and he could be a late bloomer who is coming into his own. I think the shorter distance and likely slower pace work against him but he should contend for a spot in the exacta or trifecta. My bet would be a $2 exacta box of Closing Argument, Greelys Galaxy, and high Fly ($12 total bet).

Congatulations on the birth of your son Noah. TSW rejoices in another new member to the Bills nation. Go Noah!!! -
Meister Chow (Breau) was a popular cheap beer back in college. There was bar in town (Oswego) that had $1.25 pitches of Matts on Thursday nights. You were guranteed to puke up an internal organ after drinking massive quantities of that swill, but like lemmings we keept going each Thursday night.

Finally 4 pages into the thread. Schmidts has got to be the foulest tasting beer ever made. It makes Matts taste like Labbats! I remember a keg party from my youth where the beer on tap was Schmidts. Not only did it taste like piss, the hangover I had the next day was one of the worst I've ever had. I had a headache for 3 days.

I agree. Carrie can sing ok but she sings with very little emotion and her stage presence is blah. I thought I was the only one who couldn't shake their ass and legs at the same time! Carrie and Bo will be in the final, they have the largest following. -

A nine thousand $ exacta and a six figure tri!!!
-
Good luck Mark. I might ask my dad to place a $2 exacta box of Sun King and Greely just for the hell of it!
-
My picks are: Bellamy Road Afleet Alex Sun King Wilco Looks like I'm King of chalk this race. Albany and Mark you raise a a good point about Bellamy being a front runner who has not faced adversity. However, a speed figure of 120 is simply astronomical and to me indicates this horese is something special. I usually loath betting such a heavy favorite. Mark, I hope Greely Gallaxy drops to 30-1 and if Bellamy can't do it, I will be rooting for horse to pull out the upset. BTW no unraced 2 year old horse has won the Derby since 1882!

Hang in there Fergy! Our prayers are with you.

Albany I enjoyed reading your analysis. I am not that familar with the Torograph #'s. The most surprising thing to me in your analysis is how low you have Bellamy Road rated. The Wood performance was nothing short of sensational. None of the other horses in that race improved their figures and his speed figure of 120 is nothing short of brilliant. His derby post position should allow him to track the early speed. I doubt he will be part of the initial pace scenario with speedballs like Spainish Chestnut and High Limit. A horse I think can surprise at a nice price is Sun King. Before Bellamy's Wood, Zito considered him the #1 of his 5 entrants. He wouldn't be the first horse to regress in the Blue Grass and return to run a huge race in the Derby. Bandini is a tough call for me. I loved his Blue Grass effort, he beat a good field but also had a perfect trip and his speed figure was nice, but I keep getting this nagging feeling that he may have peaked and is due to regress a bit. Ya gotta respect Pletcher/Johnny V but I am just not feelin it. I think Afleet Alex is a dangerous horse. While he has not beaten anyone major, his form looks outstanding and he has the strongest foundation of any horse in the field. If Jerry Baily or even Pat Day was aboard he might be the horse to beat. Your right J. Rose already has 2 suspect rides on this horse and in a 20 horse field at 11/4 miles there is not much margin for error. My picks: Bellamy Road Afleet Alex Sun King

I'm a big fan of the ponies myself. I enjoy reading Beyers columns. He is one of the most prominent handicappers in the world. He is a Harvard graduate who developed the speed figure concept now one of the most prevelant handicapping angles in the game. I have been struggling to come up with a way to beat the likely favorite Bellamy Road. The only knock on him I can come up with is he had not had 3 preps this year. His Wood Memeorial victory was one of the most impressive I have even seen. He won by 171/2 lengths, set a stakes record, and tied the track record set by Riva Ridge. Hes Beyer Speed figure of 120 puts him in a class of elite horses like Ghostzapper. If he runs anything close to the Wood he should win the Derby. I will be using Sun King, Noble Causeway and Afleet Alex in tris and exactas.
