Had the day off, I just happened to hear it in between the Manziel banter. He did sound fairly confident I'll definitely give you that one.

I believe he said it was a "good chance, in his opinion". Something to that effect.

He's a great kid who was obviously raised right. He is very easy to root for, I agree.

Marrone said "extended time" could mean only a few days on Saturday I believe.

He's a heavy smoker. So that would be a plus.

It was a smart move. We'll obviously never know his motivation but I tend to agree. It also automatically makes him the good guy, fighting the good fight, standing up to homophobes everywhere, in the eyes of the media...

You make a valid point. I'm not intimating I would have done the same given the opportunity, just that I understand why he did. Then again, at 20 years old I was probably just as immature as Jamarcus. Who knows....

It's an interesting discussion. Being an A's fan would be rough. As much as I believe Beane to be a genius, I believe he's insane. I don't know how one continues to lose their good players constantly, greatly exceed expectations, then lose in the playoffs. I guess you could lose all your good players and never make the playoffs. Which is worse? Excellent question. Both are torturous in my book...

He's a special case in that he has been so over the top and in your face his entire career (why nobody watched his show) he can't really be seperated from his radical views. He used to fill in for his buddy Dan Patrick occasionally before he begged his way back into ESPN, but he couldn't avoid slamming Bush on a sports show. It's only a matter of time before he gets canned again.

If you think the loss of a playmaker like Byrd won't be felt, I've got a bridge to sell you... I agree his welcome here had likely come to an end. However, not tagging him again and getting zero in return for him walking doesn't seem like the best move. Maybe for the locker room it was? I guess that's why I'm not a GM. Overall I like what Whaley has brought to the table and I've given him the benefit of the doubt on the Byrd thing.

Exactly... My boss is a big Bears fan as well. He doesn't talk smack. He knows better. Not for the same reasons, but still.
