It's definitely a risk and you're right, the team would lose a lot of the core guys in 3/4 years. But if we hit on a guy that can carry a team, we won't need the best roster. I could be wrong about Tannehill's ceiling and will be more than willing to come back and take my lumps if he continues to get better.

Winston is touted more because he's been the best QB in the country at every level he's played at, not because of the combine. He's played in a pro style offense where he's had to actually read defenses, unlike Mariora who was protected by a system. It's a lot easier to throw picks when you are counted on to make the reads. Maybe Mariota can do that, but no one knows yet. Edit: Mike Ditka is also the idiot that set the Saints back years with the Ricky Williams trade.

Why not? He's one of the best special teams players in the league, a guy we drafted and he just got a nice contract. Add to that all the obstacles he's had to overcome, I think it's a great story that hardcore and casual fans eat up.
