It's bad business. You're right, roster decisions shouldn't be made with consideration of sponsors. You also shouldn't let your sponsor use a guy you've been thinking about cutting for 6 months.

I don't think he looks bad at his job. I think he has egg on his face for how this looks. Different things. Our roster is sick, he's doing good.

Regardless of whether or not you think this was a good cut, Whaley is looking bad right now with how he handled this. Luckily for him, he helped build the best roster in the league (QB excluded) so he gets a pass.

I believe he was being serious. Glazer was the first to report it of any repute. This guy, the one who said Cassel will be cut by Friday, was the only person I saw share the news earlier than Glazer. He could have just gotten lucky. He appears to be a college student with ambitions to be a sports GM. He could have a source, but he could also be guessing. If Cassel gets cut, I'll be a believer.

I'm not so sure. Robey is one of the best nickel corners in the league. When he's on the outside, his size becomes a big factor IMO.

I trust Whaley's talent evaluation. It's a big part of why we have the best roster in the league.

Yeah. I wasn't speaking as much to the physicality as I was just their length. All of those guys are 6'5". He got beat on some plays where his positioning would normally be enough but the ball was dropped in where he couldn't get it without having better ball skills. You're right about the PI's. He needs to get his head around and locate better, though I would agree with Rex in that I saw 2 that were questionable. Hilton has made his money running precise routes with really good speed. I'm more comfortable with Darby on him than I would be on Johnson. His length and physicality would be tough on Darby.

I'm much more comfortable with Darby covering Hilton than I was with him on Benjamin/Funchess/Martavis Bryant. He stays with guys, just doesn't play the ball well. With bigger receivers that's more of a problem. I don't think he'd shut down Hilton by any means, I just think he'd do enough with some gameplanning involved.
