Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel
BmarvB replied to Joaquin1119's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We don't know that yet! More guys suck during their first few years than they do become pro bowlers in their first couple seasons. Way too early to be rushing to judgement on either of them. Both deserve an opportunity to develop under new (and hopefully better) coaching. Having a coaching staff that knows how to get the most out of what they have still matters. -

I'm not a big fan of Cutler, but I'd have to say OK, let's do it. Let EJ and Cutler compete (ONLY if the price is right) and may the best man win. -
Bills GM wants next coach to revive EJ Manuel

1) EJ hasn't played enough for us to really know what we have in him. 2) Let's remember the who the coach was (Marrone), and how well he held back the offense overall. 3) "Revive"?? NO! Let's try 'Develop", and Whaley is right to give preference to a coach who is willing and capable of developing a young QB. 4) YES, we need a coach who can succeed with developing EJ where Marrone has failed. If the next coach isn't capable of doing that, then why bother making him the next coach? 5) A 'good' coach isn't afraid to embrace and take on the challenge, and I highly doubt Whaley is going to force feed EJ and EJ alone on a new coach knowing he still needs to have a plan B in place at the position. 6) I have faith in Whaley doing the right thing to keep the Bills going in the right direction. Just leave him alone to do what he's gonna do to make this happen! -
Too many cooks in the Kitchen ?

They really weren't all that bad under Chan. His staff did a much better job of getting the most out of basically the same group of guys (except Henderson). -
The Two Faces of Doug Marrone
BmarvB replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
SD hired 2 good DC's that improved the defense. SD probably did raise the expectations here for the better. DD left his staff hanging when he bailed out on the team. What becomes of those who won't be retained by the new coach? DD dragged down the offense (especially the O-Line) DD may have very well flushed Nate Hackett's credibility as an OC down the toilet (I hope he recovers from this). He may not be as bad as we first thought, but will he get a chance to prove it after this? -
A serious question, why the faith in Whaley?
BmarvB replied to Kellyto83TD's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley has earned his keep. He's building a winner here. SO WHAT if he missed on a a couple picks. can you name a GM that hasn't? And who's to say that EJ won't develop. Get off that man's jock and let him finish getting the job done here. -
NUFF SAID!!!!

Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
BmarvB replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wouldn't mind seeing what Hackett can do with the freedom to run HIS offense under a better offensive minded coach than Marrone. Wouldn't be surprised if he's really better than what we've seen so far. I'd hate to find out later we lost a very good up and coming OC because the dayum fool we had for a HC was holding him back the whole time. We're on the same page bro. I wouldn't have any objections to seeing what he can really do with the offense if given the freedom to run it. -
Fred Jackson discusses Marrone vs. Hackett
BmarvB replied to 5 Wide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That pretty much confirms what we all suspected anyway. Marrone was holding back Hackett as well as the offense. I hope he gets a chance to really prove himself to be a competent OC even if it has to be somewhere else (other than the AFC East). -
Always as cool as the other side of the pillow. RIP Stuart. http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/12118296/stuart-scott-espn-anchor-dies-age-49

I find it hard to believe too. They didn't get to where they are by not having a plan of action, and it's not like he's not learning anything from his experience with the Sabres. Granted there's going to be a learning curve, but they're going to get it right and build a winner here.

Scathing article in NY Daily News on Marrone
BmarvB replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If he really spent that much time with the O-Line (his 'specialty'), and they regressed that much, he's not a good teacher at all. SMDH Makes you wonder if Hackett was really that bad, or was Saint Dougie holding him back. -
You're not wrong. I'm not doing $#%! at 72 either if I'm still around

Marrone could be headed to Jets

He's taking Hackett with him? -
We need a Coach & OC that can properly develop EJ

I hope he doesn't expect better if he goes to the Jets and takes Hackett with him. -

BmarvB replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There really isn't much in the way of a FA that's going to come in as a starter and hit the ground running, but we should be able to get a decent backup to help EJ along. -

BmarvB replied to BmarvB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. If we can do 588 rushing attempts and 376 passing attempts, that would help the offense (and EJ) out a lot. But in order to do that, we need the O-Line to handle its business up front like they did in 2013 when we had a top 5 running game. -

I'm all for giving EJ every opportunity to take over, but would still feel comfortable with a serviceable veteran (better than Orton) behind him as insurance. -

Let's not give up on EJ yet, it's way too soon for that. The right coach & OC can develop him into a competent QB. We don't need him to become a Brady/Manning overnight. Just get our running game back to where it was (#2), keep the run pass ratio around 60/40. That's the formula the Jets used with Mark Sanchez to get to back to back AFC championship games. If we can keep our D intact, we can do the same thing for now with him behind center and develop him at the same time. -
TBD Thoughts on Coaches Yes! Eh. Or Heck NO!
BmarvB replied to Lord_MacDonald's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd be good with Gase if he keeps Schwartz I'd be happy with Schwartz if he can get a very good OC Ryan or any other defensive coach - NO! -
Do you want the Bills to hire a coach fast?
BmarvB replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I just want them to hire a competent coach with the good sense to keep the defensive staff in place, and can raise the level of offensive production no matter who the QB is. -
I'm all for continuity, and besides, this ain't Detroit. As long as whatever happened there stays there, and we get the right OC, I'm all for Schwartz getting another shot at HC.

I'm glad you said that. I share your view as well!!!
