Mahomes without wheels is a different/lesser QB. If we get him earlier in the season and he isn’t 100% the plan should be to make him sit in the pocket ..... providing we can actually generate some pressure with the from four.

Phillips had 9.5 sacks vs 5 each for Klein and Addison this year. Phillips was decidedly more disruptive last year. Shaq had 6.5 sacks and was also disruptive . He was also playing for a contract which is why I was suspect of him BUT Lawson and Phillips both had career years in Buffalo in 2019. Why? Sometimes, the output is greater than the sum of the parts. I AGREED with letting them walk last year. What I’m saying is we missed their production and the guys we brought in ( on the cheap) didn’t provide as much. Maybe it was a “ If it’s not broke don’t fix it “ scenario . All I know is this years D line production stat wise and eye test were woefully less than last year.

I think they need to blow up the defensive line and stock it with younger, bigger, nastier talent. In hindsight, letting J.Phillips and S. Lawson walk was a bigger loss than many thought ( including me). I’m not faulting Beane as I agreed with not paying them the money they got but their production was missed. I guess it depends on your point of view but I’m in the “ Your DBs look better with a good four man rush” camp. I know it might appear risky but the Ends we have aren’t getting it done and I’m not holding out tremendous hope for Epenesa. He seems like a rotation guy/ I hope I’m wrong. That and O line help.
