Miami game blacked out in buffalo?
dezertbill replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess the Bills have until Thursday at 1pm to officially call it a blackout but they aren't too confident that 16k tickets will be sold in 48 hours. Even 11k will force the Bills to buy the remaining amount as they have done before. Unless someone steps up ain't gonna happen. -
Kolb was horrible during the offseason and it was rumored that this last concussion was career ending. Not a good combination to count on heading into another season. I thought Lewis played better than Kolb, and would prefer him in a pinch.

For the record -- Manuel's rating today was 105.0
dezertbill replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Is Tom Brady a big name. He wasn't a top 5 pick. Neither was Joe Flacco. Ryan Tannihill? Drew Brees? Jay Cutler? Colin Kaepernick? Russell Wilson? Some of those guys didn't even make it in the first round, yet are leading their teams into the playoffs. If Manuel showed NOTHING this year then I would agree with you. But he has shown plenty that gives myself the belief that with some experience and more help on offense he can be a great player in this league. It could be worse, we could have RGIII who the Redskins traded their future for and is sitting the bench cuz of performance issues (not the bologna Shanahan is trying to sell to the press that he doesn't want him to get hurt). -
The formula for winning football is creating turnovers on defense and scoring points on offense. I don't care if it's on your own 1 yard line or intercepting the other team in the endzone. A Turnover is a turnover. They made the plays when they had to on defense while making plays on offense to score more points than the opponent. THAT is the formula for winning. I get it, you don't like our coaching staff, our QB, and are going to find negatives in everything the Bills do, win or lose. You look at positives as negatives to prove your point in your own mind...a glass half empty kind of guy. I would rather look at the positives as positives, which in this game there were plenty to choose from, to prove my point in my own mind that I like the direction the Bills are heading in when our QB has a 105 QB rating (including a winning TD Drive), our running game rushes for 200, and our defense gulps up sacks and turnovers. So while I enjoy this win, you can be mad. No worries.

dezertbill replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
198 yards rushing.....QB rating 105....27 points on the board. What a horrible day by our offense! CUT THEM ALL! -
...or playing with your second and third string QB and still winning...or play an undefeated team close until the 4th quarter. All teams have injuries. Our offense have played games without starters at QB, RB, and WR. Funny when that happens we always find someone on the Bills to blame. But when other players have injuries we win cuz they suck. Jags were the hottest team in the AFC coming into this week and they were playing a Buffalo team at home who had been bad on the road. Good win for us.

dezertbill replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Give it up bro. Manuel haters are always going to find faults in a rookie QB who is still learning the game. He is going to have good and bad games. Sometimes mixed play in the same game. I thought he did some great things, and with experience he'll grow on those. -
So your saying the Bills creating turnovers is a negative??? I don't understand your logic. What about the games in which the Bills allowed other teams to win via defensive turnovers....does that make those teams suck? This was a nice road win for a team that needed a confidence builder. EJ started the game like a rookie, and came through and showed the skills that had had previously displayed vs. Carolina and the Jets. While I would agree that the 3 straight runs were a conservative, I would have only replaced the 3rd down handoff to Fred with a bootleg rollout with the TE following. The whole team followed Fred in the hole, and it would have surprised everyone in the building and have given the Bills a greater chance to convert. I'm also not against the FG try. You had a guy that has the leg to make it, and he went for it to get points on the board against a struggling Jags team. Nothing wrong with that.

Colts Elevate Da'Rick Rogers to the Active Roster
dezertbill replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My disappointment in Stevie's performance today turns to respect. The man lost his mother 24 hours ago unexpectedly. I wouldn't have been able to get dressed, much less play a game under those circumstances. My condolences to the Johnson family. Any criticism towards his performance today would be heartless. Football players are human too. ...and I might add a big game from Robert Woods. The rookie is once again showing his worth. Although Goodwin had the drop that earned us a 15 yard penalty for hitting a defensely receiver, I think he is going to be a stud for the Bills in the future as well. -
Put the blue pants out to pasture!
dezertbill replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love the blue pants...and the white helmet. 20 years of white on white was getting old, especially when we suck. Its boring compared to alot of cool uniforms out there. I know that once this team gets better...mark my word they are saving the blue jerseys and blue pants for a huge game. With white helmets will be sweet. Like the Sabres, its going to be cool when we win a championship in our old school gear. For those of us who watched the teams in the 70s and 80s it's going to be sweet. -
Tom Donahoe- was he really that bad???!
dezertbill replied to major's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Donahoes biggest mess up was not trading up with Houston to get Roethlisbuger in front of Pittsburgh. Everyone on ESPN was saying that was the rumor, but he thought the price was "too high". 9 years later would you rather have Big Ben or Lee Evans and Losman? Heck, I would have pulled a Ricky Williams and gave up that whole draft for Big Ben. He let Pat Williams go saying he was too old for 3 mill a year when all he did was dominate in Minnesota and make pro bowl after Pro bowl. He couldn't pick a coach to save his life and couldn't draft a stick figure. Simply put his ego was too big to admit he messed up, and instead of being cool he was arrogant, especially to fans. That's what got him chased out of Pittsburgh. It was Cowher or Donahoe. Don't think the Rooneys are regretting that one. Maybe if he had better talent evaluators for the draft it would have been different. But he didn't. And that's on him -
Colts Elevate Da'Rick Rogers to the Active Roster
dezertbill replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You win some and lose some. The Bills have some good players on this years roster who were undrafted rookies. They gave DaRick a chance and it didn't pan out. Also, usually failure humbles a player. I remember when DaRick received a 15 yard penalty for taunting in the preseason that the coach spoke to him about. I'm sure after getting cut and being given a chance with the Colts his attitude changed. The comment coming in early and staying late at night is an obvious reflection on his work ethic. I can't say if he was doing that in Buffalo. If he did, Marrone seems like the kinda coach that would give someone like that a chance. Good for DaRick. I wish him the best. In the meantime, I like the job our front office has done finding talented free agents, and I know that will continue. -
I completely agree that Kelly gets major props for the job he has done in Philly. I also remember how he came under heavy fire when the Eagles started out 1-3, and then again 3-5. Some wondered if his college game would translate into the NFL. Good thing they didn't fire him after half a season. Foles has done a great job in his SECOND year in the league. His rookie season he was 1-6 as a starter. However he did show promise with a 79% passer rating and his team scored 20 points or more in 5 of his 7 games. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Good thing they didn't get rid of the bum after those subpar numbers his rookie year when everyone was saying he wasn't a fit for Kelly's offense and they had Vick, Barkley and Dennis Dixon in the fold.
-
I actually did watch that 1986 season, specifically when the 2-6 Bills went to Tampa against a 1-7 Bucs team and lost 34-28 after falling behind 20-0 when Jim Kelly's pass to Robb Riddick went through his hands in the endzone in the final seconds cuz Riddick had that cast on his hand. I remember that game being a HUGE heartbreak for the team and fans. Sitting at 2-7 with their "savior QB" in the fold, everyone in the lockerroom was talking about how they were sick of losing and the sportscasters were opening questioning the direction of the team and if they would EVER break the losing funk that they had been stuck in for the last 3-4 years. The feeling was bringing Jim Kelly on would make them a playoff team AUTOMATICALLY. Little did we know it took 3 years to do so. Good thing the Bills were patient. Those who are saying I was comparing EJ Manuel as the next Jim Kelly obviously didn't read my whole post. I specifically saying I'm not. I'm just saying it's too early to say he WON'T be a great leader for this franchise. Im also not comparing the personalities of the two. I understand Jim had a different makeup. However because someone doesn't have a "linebacker" mentality doesn't mean they aren't competitive. Just because he doesn't take on defense lineman who sack him doesn't mean he can't be a champion. For all of the nostradamus' out there, I'm amazed how your able to see in the future and absolutely GUARANTEE that Manuel's career can NEVER compare to Kelly's. Whatever job you have, you need to quit immediately and go to some swank future-telling parlor and make some serious cash! IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL. For those of you that think Johnny Football is the answer, did you see the articles written about him this past summer...parents worrying whether all of the pressure will get to him. He couldn't even go to a college party without someone threatening to kick his a**. Reading about his father saying his biggest fear is getting that phone call in the middle of the night hearing that his son did something grave that he can't take back? Have you ever heard of Ryan Leaf...one of the cockiest most talented QB's who had a rocket of an arm and gaudy numbers at Washington St. and was actually being compared to Peyton Manning as to who would have a better NFL career? I remember all of the writers comparing Manning to Heath Shuler, and predicting that Peyton's talent wouldn't translate into the NFL, and that Leaf had "it" and a QB mentality that would make him a champion. You just don't know. Marrone made it clear that he expanded the playbook on Manuel from earlier in the year when he was experiencing more success and he looked a bit lost in the process, so he wants to pull back a little bit. What's wrong with that? It's the coaches job to ensure your QB is successful. It doesn't make Manuel an idiot. It just means he needs a bit more time to digest the whole offense. Missing 1/3 of the regular season and half of the preseason can do that to a rookie. Compared to players like Aaron Rodgers and Steve McNair who had seasons to learn behind starting QB's, they didn't light it up their rookie years (cuz they were on the bench) and they turned out OK. The numbers between Manuel and Kelly are an example of how similar the two player's production is on the field early in their careers. I'm sorry, but an extra yard per play or 20 yards per game doesn't make Kelly's first year all that more extraordinary than Manuel's. Kelly's stats certainly didn't translate into more wins either. I think the fact that Manuel has scored more points than Kelly is worthy. I also think the fact that Manuel has less games in which his INT's are more than his TDs also holds weight. Just ask Geno Smith. One poster asked what great things Manuel has done? How about after missing two weeks of preseason throwing 2 TD's and 0 INT's and coming within a few seconds of beating a Patriots team with a 105 QB rating on his first game as an NFL starter? How bout the Carolina comeback when he led the Bills down the field 80 yards in 1:38 with no timeouts for the game-winning TD? How about the Jets game when he completed 71 % of his passes with a QB rating of 121.9 and put up 37 points on the Rex Ryan led Jets defense ranked 11th in the league? But of course, stats don't mean anything. They are worthless, right? Ignorance. Give the kid time. Give the coaching staff time. Bills need to focus their draft picks on other positions that need help. That way Manuel might actually get time in the pocket, or have a receiver that he can count on to make a play late, or have a defensive player that is actually able to make a play on 3rd down or when the other team is deep in the red zone so that we aren't having to score 30 points every week. Just a thought, call me nuts. This isn't two years of Fitzpatrick nightmares or seasons watching Trent Edwards stink up the joint as veterans. Were not watching Kelly Holcomb play seasons of crappy football after 8 years in the league. No one sitting their butts behind their computer right now is qualified to say whether EJ will or won't be successful based on a handful of games his rookie season. If that were the case, you wouldn't be commenting on your PCs, but making the decisions yourself in Buffalo's front office. Until I have a reason to think negatively, I'm going to think positively. I like Marrone. I like Manuel. I like our new defensive coordinator. I like that our O Coordinator can win with back-up QBs. I like our new talent. I'm excited about the future of this franchise. I am a reasonable sportsfan that puts faith in a front office that knows more about the game than I. Until I see plenty of evidence (such as 3 years of Jauron, and the list goes on and on) to the contrary, I'm not going to lump the current Bills in that group. They deserve a chance.

If you compare Jim Kelly's rookie season vs. EJ Manuel, here is where it stacks up so far.... Kelly 1986: 16 games Winning Pct: .250 Pass Yds/Gm: 224 Completion %: 59.4 Y/A: 7.49 TD/Int Ratio: 1.29 QB Rating: 83.3 Games in which offense scored 20 pts or more: 5 of 16 % of games with more interceptions than TD's: 31% Manuel 2013 9 games thus far Winning Pct: .333 Pass Yds/Gm: 198 Completion %: 57.8 Y/A: 6.31 TD/Int Ratio: 1.12 QB Rating: 75.4 Games in which offense scored 20 pts or more: 7 of 9 % of games with more interceptions than TD's: 22% In Jim Kelly's 8th game of his rookie campaign he was 13-26 for 166, 0 TD/ 2 INT in a 23-3 loss vs. Patriots. I'm sure there were people on talk shows then asking for the Bills to cut Kelly an draft Vinny Testaverde, the number 1 overall pick in 1987 from the same school that Kelly attended. Imagine had that happened???? Sunday was Manuel's 9th game. I'm not calling Manuel the next Jim Kelly. However this does put Manuel's start in perspective. I don't feel it's nearly as bad as a majority on this board is making it out to be. Mind you, this was a Jim Kelly that was older than Manuel, and actually had pro experience playing in the USFL prior to joining the Bills. I believe these stats clearly state the obvious, that half way through a players "rookie" season in the NFL is not enough time to make a judgement on how a player's career will end up, or whether they have the skillset or ability to lead the Bills to great things. No matter how horrible you make his performance out to be, it's too early to tell. In the following year 1987, Kelly's completion percentage was STILL below 60%, including the final two games in which his QB rating was in the 40s and the Bills were held to 7 points in both games, which were losses. Those two losses led the Bills to ANOTHER losing record. It's rare that champions are built overnight, especially teams that are starting from scratch as the Bills did this past year. Patience is required in situations such as ours. I said week one that it's going to take atleast a season and a half to get a feel for Manuel's growth, and I still believe that. I want to see him after an off season, where things slow down for him, he gets a full preseason and enters the year with his rookie season in the past. Thats when an honest assessment can be made about his progress. So, for now, history is just about repeating itself. Whether that continues or not, now is not the time to say. I like Manuel's attitude, his competitiveness, his humility, and his maturity. He's done some great things. He just needs to be more consistent. I'm thinking positive on this one, and I have history on my side.

Officiating (and not just the Bills game)
dezertbill replied to wnysteel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was ranting about this to myself yesterday. Took the words right out of my mouth. Officiating has gone south quick, and specifically yesterday was horrible. Refs are just throwing flags for the heck of it, at the same time ignoring obvious infractions. It was frustrating listening to idiot Beurlein talk about not have enuff evidence to overturn Vince Jackson's TD in the back of the endzone when Ray Charles could have seen that Jackson's heel was out of bounds. Then making up some crap that as long as his toe touched first before the heel went out its a good TD. Since when did getting half of your foot inbounds constitute a good catch? Moron! -
Pats* pull another one out of their posteriors
dezertbill replied to BRH's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
...as Ted Nolan so eliquently said... "Winning teams get the calls....Losing teams not so much", Winning teams know how to win. Losing teams know how to lose. That sums up that game. Luck...bad penalty...whatever. The Patriots win most games, and get lucky once or twice a year. But for the most part they create their luck. If you watch some of the old Bills games during the Super Bowl years it was amazing how interceptions and fumbles from the other team almost happened on que. There were also games where the Bills were so good, if the pass wasn't completed or a play faltered....a flag against the defense followed (or didn't come if the Bills were on defense.....see Oilers comeback game in 93) When the Bills reach that level again, we will be the ones benefiting. Till then, I don't expect them. -
Fire Doug Marrone, Draft Another 1st Round QB
dezertbill replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My goodness....A VOICE OF REASON!!! Back away from the ledge people. While I will admit this was a very disappointing lose, it's not the end of the world. You cannot get too high or too low on a team that is in it's first year, with a rookie coach, new offensive and defensive systems, and rookie QB. Besides, we have been playing half the year with back-up QB's, backup cornerbacks the first half of the season, and injuries at WR and RB. Not ideal for a first year team attempting to establish continuity. This is the second egg the Bills have laid on the road. It's obvious that they haven't recovered from last week's disappointing loss, and they looked hungover. They played a Tampa team that has been playing tough, and obviously enjoyed home field advantage in 83 degree weather that made Buffalo seem out of sorts (que Russ Brandon on what true homefield advantage means when dealing with the elements...heat or cold.). This loss was on the offense all of the way. The defense was playing on a short field, and a lesser team would have given up 40+ today with all of the turnovers. Considering the circumstances I think they did very well. On offense, Manuel acted like a rookie again on a few of his throws, including 3 of his INT's (not including Stevie's deflection). But again, he is a rookie. It's the Steelers game all over again. He'll learn from this one. The two areas I really blame for this loss is the offensive line, and receivers. Balls bouncing off of hands of recievers. Drops. Stevie Johnson looked like he was checked out. No receivers were able to get open for any deep throws. Pears is horrendous, and Legursky is very inconsistent. If there is ever a time to draft a stud tackle to take his place, now is the time. The Bills had no room to run, and Manuel had his share of harrassed throws. If the receivers WERE able to get open for deep throws, Manuel didn't have time to get it to them. This loss was on execution and on the players, not the coaches. The "Fire Marrone" cries when we lose are laughable. He's a first year head coach playing with alot of first year players, trying to implement his new systems. Stuff is going to go wrong sometimes. I truly believe had the Bills won last week it would have been a different game. The team looked flat Whether it was heat or the residual effect of last week who knows. As the team grows they will learn how to overcome such adversity. At this point, not that I am rooting for the Bills to lose, but a high draft pick is our best course for the future. Our OL just isn't consistent, and we need to seriously address that in May. I am also of the thought process that Steve Johnson just isn't a true number 1 receiver. But honestly, with Woods, Johnson, Goodwin (and seeing if Graham can grow) in addition to Johnson, and I think Receiver isn't the problem for Buffalo. I don't think the Bills need that dominating number 1 to be successful. We have enough talent to have a successful passing game. I really like Chandler, and feel he is a good complement. I love our direction, and I am looking forward to the upcoming years. Go Bills! -
Does anybody care about the rest of the season.
dezertbill replied to bisonbrigade's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
unlike years past....it will be interesting to see what momentum this team takes into next season. Again, this is a growing team. It's not the same team last year that was expected to finally break the playoff drought but fell way short. I'm interested to see how Manuel progresses. Wanna see CJ get back to form consistantly. I would like to see how the receivers shake out. Wanna see the defense grow under Pettine. Also want to see who doesn't fold when we are completely out of it. No matter how bad the team is, as a fan there is an entertainment fact that I always keep in mind. That's why it's called a sport. It's not life or death. It's entertainment. I'm looking forward to being entertained this year by a group that i feel is heading in the right direction, and a coach that I feel can get us to where we need to go. It feels a little different this year...and that's a good thing. Go Bills! -

Dear Mr. Brandon--the Toronto series must go
dezertbill replied to dezertbill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Playing at home in December is an absolute advantage. Last Sunday we had a 4-7 Buffalo team desperate for a win in order to stay in the playoff hunt playing a home game against a dome team who has been struggling all year...IN A DOME in front of a mixed crowd. I'm not guaranteeing that the Bills would have won this game. However, a 14-0 lead at the Ralph in December amidst the cold and noise against a dome team who has packed it in this year in a game that meant everything to a Bills team trying to break a 13 year playoff drought is a huge deal. The MERE CHANCE that playing at the Ralph could have kept the Bills playoff chances alive this year is enough reason to prove how damaging this series is. What rubs salt in our wound is that every team we needed to lose Sunday did. I think that fires me up as much as the loss. I agree that the answer to this for Russ Brandon is better attendance during the regular season so that Buffalo doesn't get tempted by deals like this. I also believe the flip side for fans is that "play better football and the masses will come", ALA what was done in the 90s. Bottom line, this is a new era for Brandon. He has a new coach, new QB, new coordinators, basically a new GM, and alot of young talent that has made the Bills look promising for the future...and the fans are starting to buy in. Brandon has to have faith that this team, under his direction, will improve. By believing that and putting a better product out on the field, he knows the fans will begin to show up again like they did before. Buffalo is a huge football town, and even when the Bills were struggling in the late 90s and early 2000s, the sellouts kept coming as a residual effect of the Super Bowl years. You play bad football for 13 straight years while making it more costly to attend games, and Brandon can't be confused as to why the attendance is shrinking. He can't punish the fans by moving a game to Toronto. He needs to take acountability as the man in charge and put a better product out on the field and make fans want to come out and watch. Blaming fans for not spending their hard earned dollars for his subpar product is pure arrogance. Show your fans that you aren't putting dollars over wins and cancel this Toronto fiasco. The players and fans will buy in, and as this team grows and improves you'll see an increase in attendance. People will be willing to spend money for the opporunity to experience something great. If they feel there isn't anything great to experience, they won't spend. It's a simple sales equation. If you thumb your nose at fans who no longer are willing to pay for a subpar experience, and feel that playing a game in Toronto will make up for the financial shortcomings your poor product is making revenue wise at the expense of giving your football team every advantage to win, than you are running nothing less than a "dictatorship", and will quickly lose the allegiance of some extremely passionate fans whose allegiance is extremely difficult to lose. At that point, Mr. Wilson's decision to place you in charge will be a regretable one. It's that simple. -
Dear Mr. Brandon: When you took over full control of the franchise earlier this year, one statement you echoed throughout was "doing everything in your power to bring a championship football team to Buffalo." Yet Mr. Brandon, I find this laughable in the midst of the worst decision a Bills executive has ever made for this franchise by giving up 1 home game a year during the regular season to a city that could care less about our proud franchise. Yes Mr. Brandon, you heard me. The City of Toronto could care less. They showed it through their attendance, through their in-game reaction and participation, the condition of the field, and they even showed it through the multiple jerseys the fans were wearing from other teams. The sports writers in Buffalo don't understand it, and can clearly see how losing 1 game a year in the Ralph is a clear disadvantage for a franchise whose each and every home game is critical for a playoff run. The sports writers in Toronto straight up disrespect our proud franchise, making cases through their columns as to why Toronto would even want a "sorry" and “losing” team like the Bills in their city. Yet you could care less who disgraces us. Bills fans hate it, the coaches and players I can tell loathe playing in front of an indifferent crowd “at home”. There are only three people that LOVE this relationship, and that's the people that make money off of it. That's you, Edward Rogers, and MLSE exec Larry Tanenbaum who puts this on in the hopes that one day they steal this proud franchise from the hearts of its fans….with you cheering all along the way. The series is a disgrace, and you should be ashamed of robbing your fans and football team of every advantage possible that makes EVERY GAME so critical every year. Did you even listen to the Falcons post game comments, saying how it felt like a home game, how they could hear the fans cheering for them, all the Atlanta jerseys they saw, and how it helped them feel “more at home in a dome?” Did that make you smile playing such an accommodating host??? You don't care, do you Mr. Brandon? Of course not. You'll give us some corporate bologna about how you want to "bring the game to Canada" and "spread the Bills brand across the border and beyond". That's all crap. The only reason why you do it is for money. Just be up front about it. The crowds are declining, interest is falling, the result is awful…and you don’t care. Let’s extend another 30 years! Let’s decrease our games at the Ralph to 7 home games, 6 home games. Heck, let’s play them all in Toronto! Perhaps you should promote a Peyton Manning Jersey give away at the gate. That should increase attendance!!! So the next time you pull up in front of a microphone Mr. Brandon and talk about how “it’s all about bringing a championship football team to Buffalo” be sure to place your hand behind your back and cross your fingers to form a dollar sign. Remember that you are robbing your football team of a competitive advantage that 95% of all NFL teams have (minus those that have to play a “home” game in London once every 10-15 years....not EVERY YEAR!). If you care about the Bills and its fans, stop this Toronto series immediately. It's deplorable. The players, writers, and fans in both cities know it. And you know it too. Give the Bills every advantage they can have to be successful. Give us 8 high energy home games. Anything else is a clear indication that winning isn't important to you, and will lend zero credibility to any comments you say to the contrary. Thank you for your time.

Remain Calm, all is not as lost as it appears
dezertbill replied to HopefulFuture's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great post. About 2 hours after the game ended I was over the loss, remaining optimistic about the big picture. It's obvious in the post game that we have a head coach that deeply cares, and doesn't shove monitone answers down our throats as if it's just another loss. Alot of people bag on Chandler, but I think he is an above average tight end that has been dependable for most of the season. I've seen him keep many drives alive, and I think he's a great outlet for Manuel. Stevie has his moments, and he can be a big time player. However, consistancy...or lack of...kills his game. I know he cares, but I don't think he is a receiver that can "lead" a team. I've seen the Bills play the run in the past alot better than they did today. The pressure they are putting on the QB is great, and is a welcome site to see. Overall, I am excited about Manuel playing more and seeing him progress. Unlike the OP, I think Manuel has a great arm and with experience and timing with is receivers will be a great deep ball QB. I love his mobillity, and scrambled a few times out of the pocket where if he made the decision alot sooner would have turned into long scrambling gains. I really like what we have in Woods and Goodwin. I think the Bills defense is a couple pieces away from being tops in the league. I love our pass rush. Lawson and Alonzo are awesome. I think a healthy and more experienced Spiller is going to be the difference maker he was in the past. We've had some injuries take away some key pieces that have put us where we are. From third string QB's to decimated secondaries. Yet we are a 4-8 team that could easily be 8-4 with some close losses to NE, Cincy, Atlanta, and KC (a game we should have won and I believe we would have won had Manuel or Lewis started). I feel that's how close we are. Even pulling out two of those games would put is right in the thick of the playoff picture. The Bills need to learn how to win those close games. Reminds me alot of the 86-87 teams that had sub 500 records and lost alot of close games....mostly because they didnt know how to win. In 88, they figured it out. Staying with my original comments at the beginning of the season, this is a year where progress and growth was critical...and I think weve seen that. This year wasn't about the playoff drought, but making strides in order to get closer to ending it. They are playing the great teams tough, and have been totally out of it only once (loss to Pittsburgh due to a rusty Manuel). A new coaching staff, new QB, a great draft that has 4 key contributors to our team this year, and a new enthusiasm that will eventually lead to success on the field. Hopefully they can build on that in the final 4 games and head into next season with a full head of steam. Yes, I see the glass half full. As we all should. -
Newsflash.... EJ may have another bad game or two this season. If that happens, do not run to the Peace Bridge! He's no different a QB that game than he was Sunday vs the Jets. Same player. He's prone to mistakes. Hell learn and grow. That's what rookies do. I was really uplifted by his effort yesterday after a very rusty start vs Steelers. Hopefully a clean bill of health the rest of the season will lesson his learning curve.
