NFL Rewind URBIK Pass Protect Review

Hmm... wonder how much of that bad grade for Woods is on him and how much is on having to compensate for Pears? -
NFL Rewind URBIK Pass Protect Review
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think I may have missed a few plays there... I'm quite certain I saw all of the sack plays.. just maybe forgot to mark them down on my tally sheet..I intend to do a more thorough overall O line/QB review tomorrow along the same lines once the All 22 footage comes out. If I see anything I missed regarding Urbik I will certainly mention it. -
NFL Rewind URBIK Pass Protect Review
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was up against Sheldon Richardson most of the day and did not give up a sack...and only gave up one pressure to Richardson. He was more than adequate.. not dominate.. but solid. -
Watching in real time it appeared that Urbik did well in pass protect.. but to make sure I went back and watched NFL Rewind and isolated the passing plays and focused on Urbik. ( analyzing the run blocking is much more difficult than analyzing pass protect so I figured I'd go with the low hanging fruit) DISCLAIMER - I'm not a coach, I don't know the play call, this is just a simple eye test review TOTAL PASS PLAYS - 17 snaps HELD HIS OWN/ APPEARED TO DO HIS JOB - 15 snaps LOST BATTLE/ GAVE UP PRESSURE - 2 snaps PLAYS OF NOTE - Urbik was beaten twice. First time he was beaten off the snap/power move.. gave up pressure on Orton - Second time he was beat on a spin move.. gave up a pressure - Q1 - Urbik and Glenn PICKED UP A STUNT!!! perfectly - None of the sacks were on Urbik CONCLUSION - Urbik looked very solid in pass protect. No sacks given up, only 2 pressures and a solid job picking up on stunts.

These are statistics from the crack research staff at the SIF ( Style In Football) think tank.. a very reputable source. If Rex goes hoodie Jets chance of winning is 97% If Rex goes classic Landry , chance of Jets winning goes to 91% Conversely... if Rex goes Glanville/ Johnny Cash, winning percentage drops to 30% And if Rex goes full Bum Phillips Cowboy chance of winning drops to 15%

Kraig Urbik appears to have been freed

I suppose Hairston or Kuandjio? Although both seem like poor options to me -

Thank God. Been calling for this since preseason. Urbik never should have been benched in the first place. Pears is the lesser of two evils so I think it is good Urbik is replacing Richardson at LG. Richardson was much worse than Pears in pass protect against Vikings which hopefully means Pears is starting to get the hang of RG ( hopefully I say... jury is definitely still out) -
NFL Rewind All 22 Film Review Week 7: Orton Unforced Errors
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He wasn't directly responsible for any of the sacks ( can't speak for any of the other breakdowns) which I suppose in an improvement.. -
NFL Rewind All 22 Film Review Week 7: Orton Unforced Errors

O line has done a generally poor job blocking called screen plays. Urbik and Andy Levitre used to be masters of that under Chan -

Indeed.. A lot of screen passes.. Bubble screens.. 3 step drops to compensate for the bad o lone skews the percentage -
NFL Rewind All 22 Film Review Week 7: Orton Unforced Errors
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My title is a bit misleading... I would agree with a B grade ( if he doesn't have the 2 brutal turnovers ( both of which were unforced) I would have given him an A -
Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How Kyle did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS - 46 snaps ( last week was 41 .. The Bills having 40+ pass attempts again. Clearly the script has flipped in 2014 compared to 2013) LINE BREAKDOWN - 13 snaps or 28% of pass plays ( defined as - O-Line clearly messed up and Kyle did not have a moment to throw after hitting the last step of his drop.. last week was 26% so pass protect was slightly worse this week) SUFFICIENT PROTECTION; 33 snaps or 72% of pass plays ( defined as O-Line did sufficient job and Kyle hit the last step of his drop and had a moment to throw). UNFORCED KYLE ERRORS: - 5 snaps or 10 % of pass plays where he had time ( unforced error defined as Kyle having time and having unforced accuracy issues/ or taking bad sacks... last week it was 6 snaps or 15 %) Bottom Line:; Of the 12 incompletions only 4 were on Orton. He had 2 drops and the other 6 were due to pressure/ coverage. Orton is very consistent week to week.. this week was nearly a carbon copy of last week and the week before ( except for the 2 bad turnovers that were his fault). The O Line was worse than last week in pass protect. Glenn and Richardson got beat by the same stunt 3 times in the 4th quarter. Orton generally handled the pressure well.. he had at least two plays where he hung in there, got smacked in the face but delivered a completion. The INT was totally on him... plenty of time.. bad throw. Of the 5 unforced errors only 2 were egregiously bad throws.. one error was an unnecessary check down. PLAYS OF NOTE Q2 - sack in Red Zone on Eric Wood Q2 - Orton takes big hit in the face on blitz but delivers to Sammy Q3 - Orton takes hit ( Richardson beat) but still delivers to Sammy Q3 - Fumble in red zone – Totally on Orton.. good protection .. tried to do too much.. should have eaten the ball .. gave away at least 3 points there Q3 - Sack - Glenn and Richardson beat on stunt Q4 - Sack - Glenn and Richardson beat on same exact stunt Q4 - QB hurry – Glenn and Richardson beat on same exact stunt again Q4 - Sack - Richardson beat Q4 - Sack - both Tackles beaten ( Henderson beaten worse) As a side note: Richardson was absolutely horrendous in pass protection - he needs to be benched

What will they do about this horrid O-line?
Bocephuz replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's sad that this is now a viable option worth considering. Henderson did look really comfortable at LT in preseason. Two things to consider in that scenario. 1.) To my knowledge Glenn has not played guard before and he may struggle with stunts and assignments at a new position similar to how Pears is struggling with his assignments ( obviously he would not struggle with the physical aspect of playing guard so it would be a huge upgrade in that category). 2 - I would replace Pears with Hairston at RT. I think Pears is fried at this point. -

good point... Richardson and henderson may turn out to be good players.. Can't blame Pears for being shoe horned into the Guard position. Just frustrating when you have two vets in Urbik and Hairston who are glued to the bench for no apparent reason -
if we were in the playoffs or Super Bowl that would mean we'd be playing an incredibly solid opponent. Ugly wins against good teams on the road ( ie Lions win) are something to be proud of. An ugly win in week 7 at home against a rookie Qb with no Adrian Peterson does not even remotely compare

If Urbik and Hairston are healthy they are both average offensive lineman based on their track records. Pears and Henderson are clearly below average at this point. I'll take average over below average any day.Marrone is just too stubborn and prideful to admit his experiment has blown up in his face -
it's not about week 7 .. It's about 16 weeks and what I saw today does not give me confidence about us winning 10 out of 16 weeks. I want to be watching in week 18 or 19 when the yahoos are truly meaningful and memorable. Noone will be talking about this amazing comeback win against the Vikings 10 years from now
-
I am the OP and am in total agreement with Orton starting over EJ. I am embarrassed for our O Line and the bad drops and fumbles coming in a home game against an inferior team. I am embarrassed that our offense ( as a whole.. please don't label me as an Orton hater.... he had some horrific moments and some fantastic moments) is unfocused and erratic.
-
so you are saying our offensive line outplayed their dLine? Giving up 6 sacks and multiple other qb pressures was a winning effort?
-
Amen brother... I wish posters would take the emotion out of their posts and look at things objectively. Way more negatives than positives today
-
scraping out a win against an inferior team is nothing to be excited about. Scraping out a win agsinst Detroit on the road.. Fantastic.. Vikings with rookie QB in his first roadstart .. Not great. Just because you win doesn't mean you played well . That game was a fing mess offensively. We're in serious trouble if we don't somehow miraculously fix the o line
-
I don't feel good about that at win at all. O Line is an embarrassment , Orton had 2 unforced turnovers, bad fumbles . Thank God for our D. Rbs getting hurt is no excuse
