Top Five Sal Capaccio - tends to be objective, very detailed Joe Buscaglia - can have a bit of a big ego but generally well informed Tyler Dunne - new guy has done well Matthew Fairburn - new guy has done well Tim Graham - can be annoying with his Twitter feuds but good at getting scoop and inside info Worst Jerry Sullivan - a lot of knee jerk statements based on speculation Vic Carucci - Vic is a nice guy but out of touch. For example... he wrote an article saying that Cordy Glenn was in danger of losing his LT spot because he took a few reps at LG in OTA's. Matthew Collar - annoying tone on WGR like he knows more than anyone else, also his articles are poorly written

Name the top 5 most "beloved" Bills of all time
Bocephuz posted a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Name the top 5 most "beloved" Bills of all time. Not necessarily the best Bills players of all time, but think more in terms of the biggest fan favorites. 1. - Jim Kelly - savior of the franchise, flawed but tough, talented and a great community member 2. - Darryl Talley - heart and soul of Super Bowl teams, inspired a go fund me campaign from the fans 3. - Fred Jackson - heart and soul of post Super Bowl teams, inspired his own mass online campaign 4. - Brian Moorman - lone bright spot on poor teams for years, involved in community 5. - Kyle Williams - underdog gritty player, great team leader * I was born in 1979 so I can't really comment on Pre Jim Kelly era.. interested to see who some of the old timers would add to this list. % O.J. Simpson would probably have been number 1 except for that pesky double murder thing -
Edit: now confirmed rumor that Bills will release Cassel
Bocephuz replied to eball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it is likely that Cassel gets released. Just listened to the Sportrac guy who discussed the Bills' cap situation and the savings from cutting Cassel would go a long way in being able to stretch out a signing bonus for Dareus. If the Bills are smart they will wait until the last minute to cut him just in case some freak injury to the other QBs happens before week 1. -

Did anyone catch Sully yesterday on NFL Radio?
Bocephuz replied to dollars 2 donuts's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sully is the king of knee jerk. Last year he was calling for an extension for Orton before the KC game and then he completely backtracked after the Denver game and said Orton was no good. He is awful and I'm glad Tyler Dunne apperars to be taking over some of his duties -
I can't be the only that misses Marshawn Lynch

don't forget that Lynch was on his 2nd strike when we traded him ( strike 1 for hit an run on Chippewa, strike 2 for marijuana and guns). -
EJ Will Start Pittsburgh Game
Bocephuz replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I want to preface this by saying that I would be just fine with Matt Cassel being our starter if the coaches think he is the best... That being said.. the more I think about this... I think Rex and Whaley are looking to see if Manuel is good enough to keep around as the #2 behind Taylor .. if EJ plays well Saturday .. I wouldn't be surprised if Cassel gets cut for $ reasons. -
EJ Will Start Pittsburgh Game

The only way I see the fans not bitching about their particular favorite not being the starter is if 2 of the 3 really stink it up against Pittsburgh ( which is unlikely) -
EJ Will Start Pittsburgh Game
Bocephuz replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great move by Rex .. 1 - I think the notion of preseason game 3 being your "dress rehearsal" for the regular season is ridiculous. I highly doubt Greg Roman and company are going to show their cards and I highly doubt they have game planned for Pittsburgh. How much value would there be for the "real starter" to play a whole half with the ones when you're just running a vanilla offense that has very little resemblance to what our offense will really look like in Week 1 against the Colts. In that context.. why not give all 3 guys time with the 1's and 2's. 2 -This indicates to me that Rex knows the pulse of the locker room and he knows that whoever wins the QB job needs to have the appearance of winning it fair and square so there can be no bitching or side taking once the big decision is made. 3 - EJ has not looked as smooth as Taylor or Cassel in the first 2 preseason games.. however.. he found a way to make plays and keep himself in the conversation and merit another look from the coaching staff. I think we all would agree that neither Taylor or Cassel were dominant in their performances. 4 - I am not reading to much into EJ starting this game making him the front runner. For him to seriously make the coaches think of him as the # 1 he will need to: - show good footwork on his drops and get the ball out on time ( .. ie.. get rid of that hitch he has) - use his legs a few times and show he can not be awkward - greatly improve his accuracy - don't fumble... That is a tall task for probably only getting one or two series.. but hey.. if he can't pull it off at least he can say he got a fair shot. -
Geno Smith Punched, Jaw Broken, Out 6-10 Wks
Bocephuz replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
BREAKING NEWS - ( Cortland, NY - AP) - Jets coach Todd Bowles pronounced Ryan Fitzpatrick the Jets' starting QB today in the wake of the Geno Smith broken jaw incident..an incident which will most likely keep Smith out of action for 6-10 weeks. Bowles added another surprising wrinkle when speaking to reporters at a press conference at their training camp facility in Cortland, NY " After losing Geno today .. Chan Gailey and I feel the best way forward is to ground and pound to wear out opposing defenses and we want Fitzy to get as many touches as possible .. so going forward we're gonna play him as a hybrid QB/Fullback. Fitzy is a tough punishing runner and we're gonna showcase that skill set as much as we can " -

Probably the best litmus test I have ever heard for Pro Football HOF Status is " Would you be able to tell the story of the NFL without mentioning this guy?". Seems obvious to me that Ken Stabler is a HUGE part of any discussion of NFL in the 70's. Now.. I'm too young to have watched Ken Stabler play in person.. but anyone who has the slightest sense of the history of the game knows about his legend and the legendary games and plays he has been involved in. I don't need to rehash them all here. Sure .. I've heard that many HOF voters have turned him down because of his supposed bad practice habits and general laziness.. but look at the end results.. and ask yourself " Can I tell the story of the NFL without mentioning Kenny Stabler?" and the answer is.. "Hell No" And if you answer "Hell No" than the next logical step is to say "Hell Yes" to The Snake being in Pro Football HOF.

Fallout from possible Dareus extension

good point about the cap probably going up next year.. hadn't factored that in.. even so.. we still need Mario to restructure and will need to cut a few expensive vets -
Fallout from possible Dareus extension
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree .. a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. And Dareus is a rare bird. Just making the point that we will have very little FA money and not much flexibility to extend others the next few years if we restructure Dareus now. -
First of all... I am all for the Dareus extension.. .let's get it done. Secondly.. there will be costs ( not just financial) associated with this extension due to salary cap ramifications... particularly in 2016. What are you willing to give up in future years in order lock up Dareus long term? Are you willing to give up Percy Harvin? Leodis McKelvin? Chris Williams ( ok.. CW is kind of a no brainer)? What if a high quality FA QB pops up on the market in 2016( Phillip Rivers/ Brees???) and we don't have the cap space to sign them due to the Dareus extension? Also.. Mario Williams will certainly need to restructure his deal to give the Bills some breathing room in 2016 and beyond if Dareus extends. Do you think Mario will restructure? According to http://overthecap.com/calculator/buffalo-bills/ here's what the Bills situation looks like now...( pre Dareus restructure) 2015 - $6.5 mil in cap space 2016 - $1.5 mil in cap space We certainly have room in 2015 to restructure Dareus .. however.. after plugging in a reasonable contract for Dareus into this tool... the Bills will certainly go over the cap substantially in 2016.. and that is after assuming the Bills cut Williams, Harvin and McKelvin in 2016 to get under the cap. The only way we can get this done and make it work long term is to have Super Mario restructure.. and even if he does that .. we will only have ~ $5 mil or so to spend for FA and rookies in 2016. So here's the hypothetical.... would you be willing to let Dareus go in order to free up money in 2016 for the cap room to sign/ trade for the best FA vet QB on the market in 2016?

Fanspeak Mock Draft - Post your 7 round Mock- get on record
Bocephuz replied to Bocephuz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Always interesting to see some new names pop up I wasn't aware of... I also think Bridge is a good raw prospect.. reminds me of Kaepernick -
FanSpeak has a great Mock Draft tool www.fanspeak.com/ontheclock. For the sake of consistency choose the Walter Football Rankings and run your mock draft to get on record. 50: R2P18 -CB BYRON JONES CONNECTICUT ( Laken Tomlinson was still on the board and I struggled whether to take him or Jones... in the end I went with bpa over need here. They guy has good size and should be a good press corner to take over for McKelvin next year ... killed it at the combine) 81: R3P17 DE HENRY ANDERSON STANFORD ( no hesitation here... highest rated player on my board left by far... fills a need and should be able to contribute right away) 155: R5P19 - OT ROB HAVENSTEIN WISCONSIN ( no hesitation here.. highest rated left by far... not dominant.. but solid RT .. looked really solid in senior bowl drills and tape I watched.. ) 188: R6P12 - DT DARIUS KILGO MARYLAND ( Kyle Williams is not getting any younger.. Dareus will be expensive... surprised he was still available here) 194: R6P18 - TE E.J. BIBBS IOWA STATE ( tough big blocking chain mover to compliment Clay) 234: R7P17 - OLB KYLE EMANUEL NORTH DAKOTA STATE ( 3-4 OLB tweener type .. good fit for Rex' D)

Most Reviled Coach of the Bills
Bocephuz replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Skunk Boy was the biggest jerk out of em all. Jauron and Gailey seemed like good guys. .just not good head coaches Marrone and Mularkey are pretty much the same guy.. I believe they both went 9-7 and then bailed. I don't believe Mularkey ever got another head coaching gig and I hope the same happens to Marrone -
Who won't be a Buffalo Bill by opening day?
Bocephuz replied to rfk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good additions .. Goodwin is a one trick pony, injury prone... he has an uphill battle. Hogan I think makes the cut ( solid backup WR and good special teamer) ...I think they'll keep Lawson one more year as he has experience being an edge setter/tweener in this type of D scheme ( although .. they may draft his replacement and if that happens he's probably gone) .. Brooks is in same boat as Lawson. Meeks.. Rambo will probably beat him out. .. Thigpen - with Bills adding Percy Harvin and talking to Brad Smith I doubt they'll want to keep him as a return specialist -

Bocephuz replied to rfk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Chris Williams Cyril Richardson Bryce Brown -
I noticed that too.. seems like this is a more reasonable strategy than Marrone's strategy of shoe horning guys into spots that they haven't played before just to get them on the field
-
From what I saw looking at Williams Rams game tape and the little I saw with him on Bills he seemed like an above average run blocker and a below average pass blocker. I can't really remember how Incognito slotted out run v pass I think ideally someone steps up at LG and we cut Chris Williams to save some money and keep Urbik as the swing guard/ backup center. Urbik being a passable backup center should give him more value over Williams That still puzzles me... I wonder how much input Marrone had in drafting the O line last year. I'm thinking he didn't have much personnel input ( ie.. extending Kraig Urbik and then Marrone benches him)
