  1. I haven't really seen Miller physically dominated.. just looks like his technique is a little off and he is lost picking up most stunts. Seems like that stuff is coachable.. learnable through experience Taylor's accuracy throwing on the run is outstanding and I hope Roman continues to use these type of moving pocket plays.
  2. Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How Tyrod did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. there also may be a few extra pass attempts that were cancelled due to penalites..but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS 29 snaps ( much better number than last week 43 snaps ) LINE BREAKDOWNS 3/ 29 or poor pass protection on 10% of passing snaps ( much better than the 20% last week..) Im quite certain 10% is the lowest since I started doing this analysis last year. SUFFICIENT PROTECTION 26/29 snaps 90% .. or in other words Taylor had time to hit his drop and throw 90% of the time ( 80% last week) UNFORCED TYROD ERRORS: - 2/26 snaps 7% or in other words Taylor had time to throw but missed his target or made wrong decision on 7% of these opportunites( last week was 8 unforced errors or 19% ) Bottom Line: BEST O LINE PLAY OF YEAR.. OF LAST 2 YEARS Upon further review The O Line unit as a whole put together its best performance in a long time . Based on what I saw Suh had close to 0% impact on the passing game. Roman was also asking them to do execute some difficult concepts. For example.. on much of the first drive ( and throughout the game) the o line was called to fake run block one way and then the Center or LG was asked to do a 180 and block the backside as Taylor carried out the play action and rolled the other way. WOOD HAS BREAKOUT GAME Ive been very disappointed with Eric WoodS game tape for much of the last year and this year so I was VERY pleased to see him have an OUTSTANDING game against the Dolphins. He did a great job picking up stunts, bailing out the rookie and carrying out his own assignments in general. MILLER HAS ROUGH GAME/ URBIK PLUGS GAP - I was really high on John Miller after his dominating pre-season.. however.. 3 games into the season it appears obvious that he is struggling. In his limited time on the field he was beaten twice ( once on a stunt, once on an inside move). Urbik was very solid as a replacement. If I am the Bills staff .. I am thinking long and hard about whether to sit John Miller for a little while and give Urbik the nod. Miller was the only weak link on the line in Miami. PLAYS OF NOTE Q1 -12:03 -TD pass to Clay counter pass play, fake run right..roll left.. Eric Wood does excellent job picking up backside blocking Q1 8:02 - Miller gets beat on inside move.. Eric Wood bails him out Q1-6:07 - Miller doesnt pick up stunt Taylor still throws TD to McCoy with defender in his face Q2 -12:32 - Henderson gets beaten Taylor scrambles and makes good throw to Hogan Q3 13:27 - Wood picks up another stunt 12 yd completion to Harvin Q3 -3:30 - UNFORCED ERROR Taylor has time .. just misses Woods on deep fly route ( .. beautiful 7 step drop and release.. just a little long) Q4 - UNFORCED ERROR Taylor has time misses back should throw to Clay SUMMARY This was fun to watch. You know its a good day when Taylors unforced errors are throws that are off by just a hair. Taylor was masterful last Sunday.. yes.. masterful. His decision making was near perfect. I did not see a single throw that was close to being intercepted.. I also saw him consistently have his head up ..being aggressive.. trying to throw the intermediate and deep routes ( unlike last week against NE where he was Checkdown Charlie). The only negative was Millers play however with Urbik proving that he is more than capable at being a solid pass protector as a backup .. that could be looked at as a positive. Damn fun watching this Damn fun O Line Pass block grades GLENN - B INCOGNITO - B WOOD - A+ MILLER - D URBIK - B HENDERSON - C
  3. Try to get the OL review up tomorrow.. From naked eye Miller was doing fine and then poof he was gone and Urbik stepped in and didn't miss a beat I must admit I was so fired up with how things were going I missed a lot of detail so All 22 review will be interesting tomorrow
  4. #1 - I am a big fan of Incognito's play. He has been outstanding. However... he has not been perfect... This statement below seems to imply that he has been perfect "Incognito helped keep Tyrod Taylor sack-free, and through three weeks he’s allowed only one quarterback hit and no sacks in 196 snaps—good for the top guard in the league as rated by Pro Football Focus" Go back and watch the first 2 games and it is obvious that he failed to pick up a couple of stunts correctly .. and these failures led directly to pressure on Taylor. Again... based on my Game Pass review of the O Line play he's definitely our been our best lineman.. just wanted to point out that he hasn't been perfect in pass protection and he still has a few things he needs to work on.
  5. "I wonder when my buddy is gonna come back with the beers.... this ball paddle thing sort of works....wonder if I'm doing it the right way.... kinda looks like my balls slapping around when I get out of the shower and I shake side to side in the mirror.. I think I hear a whistle.. am I outside?"
  6. Point taken... I don't mind the critique. The reason I post this is to facilitate discussion... get other people's perceptions. Good point about scripting...It seems pretty obvious that the first drive was scripted. I did see him a few times making gestures to the line/receivers that appeared to be audbiles.. but I wonder how much freedom he has with audibles and whether or not he should have more leeway?
  7. Happy to facilitate the discussion and I welcome people pointing out their unique perception of certain plays. While there may have been a few borderline o line breakdowns i categorized as sufficient protection I think PFF's 50% pressure characterization appears to be very high
  8. .. Looks like I won't be breaking down Cassel in this space this year
  9. Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How Tyrod did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. there also may be a few extra pass attempts that were cancelled due to penalites..but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS - 43 snaps ( way too many....last week was 21 Snaps) LINE BREAKDOWNS - 9/43 snaps - poor protection on 20% of pass plays( last week was 24%.. slight improvement).. SUFFICIENT PROTECTION - 34/43 snaps - time to throw on 80% of pass attempts(slight improvement - last week was 76%). UNFORCED TYROD ERRORS: - 8/43 snaps or unforced errors on 19% of pass attempts where he had time (worse than last week's 3 unforced errors or 14%) Bottom Line: O LINE WAS NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT: - My impression watching the game in real time was that the O Line played worse than they did week 1 against the Colts... this was not the case however. Upon further review.. the O line while certainly not great were also certainly not awful. Taylor's pocket awareness this week was much worse than week 1 and several of the 8 sacks were on him and not on the O Line. In general, the O line had a very good first half and the Bills' 2nd quarter O struggles were due mainly to Taylor's indecisiveness and conservativeness. The O line played worse in the second half .. particularly in Q4.. however Taylor was much more improvisational and aggressive in the 2nd half . Towards the end of the game his athleticism and creativity covered up some of the protection issues that popped up. PLAYS OF NOTE q1-7:47 - UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor is unpressured but throws ball at Mulligan's shoestrings q1-7:04 - SACK - good coverage, not really anyone's fault q1-2:33 - SACK - Incognito doesn't pick up stunt, Taylor has no chance q2-15:00 - UNFORCED ERROR- Interception - Taylor has time but forces throw to Clay and it is picked off q2-13:14 - UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor has Harvin open for slant thrown but hesitates and unnecessarily checks down to McCoy q2-10:27 - UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor doesn't see wide open Sammy on intermediate crossing route and checks down to Williams q2 -9:18 - UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor has good pocket but hesitates and throws high to Clay q2-6:06 - UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor throws checkdown to Williams too high.. incomplete.. not pressured q2-5:22 - Taylor hangs in there, takes a hit and delivers deep ball to Harvin resulting in PI call q2-2:00 - Taylor hits his 3 step drop and makes nice slant pass Watkins q2-:44 - SACK - Glenn beaten by Chandler Jones, no chance for Taylor q3-8:22 - Percy Harvin alligator arms decent Taylor deep throw q3-7:31- UNFORCED ERROR - Taylor throws 2 yd out to Woods on 3rd and 9 and doesn't see wide open Hogan on crossing route q3-3:23 - FUMBLE - John Miller gets pushed back into Taylor by Alan Branch q3-2:54 - SACK - Incognito and Wood don't pick up stunt q4-14:26 - SACK - Taylor has time should've thrown it away q4-12:26 - Miller gets beat again.. Taylor has to scramble q4-11:48- TD - Henderson gets beat around edge but Taylor makes a great scrambling TD throw to Woods q4-1:15 - UNFORCED ERROR - INT - Taylor had time to throw but forced it to Clay SUMMARY - Upon further review, the right side of the line wasn't as bad as I thought. Watching in real time it seemed like Miller was getting beaten quite often. In reality, Miller was only really beaten twice and Henderson really only once. Glenn was only cleanly beaten once. Incognito and Wood need to do a better job of picking up stunts.. but neither of them were really physically beaten. In short.. Taylor needs to get back to staying calm and cool in the pocket like he did in preseason and things should sort themselves out. __________ __________
  10. Another opinion that Miller was awful.. like worst at his position in the league awful... against the Patriots... https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/09/21/worst-players-at-every-position-for-week-2/
  11. Are you generally in favor of trading Cassel? - Yes. The odds of him staying here long term are slim and if he is a better backup than EJ at this point ( which is questionable) it is only marginally. If so .. what do think is fair compensation? - I would take a 4th rounder ( any thing less is really quite worthless)
  12. Some in the press are throwing out Cassel's name as a potential trade target for the Cowboys now that Romo is out for a while. Are you generally in favor of trading Cassel? If so .. what do think is fair compensation?
  13. John Miller was the worst of the bunch for the second week in a row. Hard to believe he is the same guy who looked do good in preseason. If he has another week like this next week it may be Urbik time.
  14. Again I only watched pass plays ( it's too hard to evaluate run game blocking).. so in regards to pass protection... Glenn may have had a few penalties but he looked physically solid. Incognito appears to be an upgrade over Urbik. Wood still looks very shaky like he did last year. Miller appears to be a physical upgrade over Pears but he is making some of the same mental mistakes on stunts as Pears did last year. Henderson looks to be about the same as last year.. he never really dominates but generally does just enough to get by. Yeah.. Wood really needs to step it up. He's a great interview and a great guy .. but his film has consistently looked bad the last few years. Yeah.. the deep throw he missed on Watkins was not a bad decision.. and if you are going to miss you should miss long. Nevertheless, I had to chalk it up as an unforced error as he had plenty of time to throw on that play and Watkins had a step. I do like that they were being aggressive there on the bomb late in the game. And yes he did recover nicely with the fumble.. nevertheless.. the snap was perfect.
  15. Kind of scary that all of his unforced errors were in Q4... hopefully not a trend
  16. My pleasure.. I would say that the problems did seem to be more communication/assignment related than physically related. I didn't really see anyone get pushed around or abused physically.
  17. Right side of O Line needs to do a better job of picking up stunts
  18. Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How Tyrod did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. there also may be a few extra pass attempts that were cancelled due to penalites..but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS - 21 Snaps ( definitely run first game plan today) LINE BREAKDOWNS 5 out of 21 snaps ( poor protection on 24% of pass plays.. ).. This is not a good percentage. SUFFICIENT PROTECTION - 16 out of 21 snaps ( time to throw on 76% of pass plays). A lot of screen plays and short passes help this number.. although the OL had good protection on a handful of deep throws. UNFORCED TYROD ERRORS: - 3 out of 21 snaps ( Tryod made mistakes on 14% of pass plays) Bottom Line: NOT BAD BUT MUCH ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: The Colts were throwing a lot of stunts at John Miller and Eric Wood and neither lineman handled it very well. I think if John Miller learns to kind of sit and stay home and let the play come to him he will be able to overcome picking the wrong guy when a stunt occurs. Either that or Wood is not picking things up. The RBs also had a few shaky moments in picking up blitzes as well.. but some of their troubles may have been exaggerated due to the OL failing at their jobs. Taylor did an excellent job of using his feet to get out of trouble. I didn't really see any plays where he bailed too early. He had a few unforced errors but none of them were catastrophic..In general he looked calm and collected. Great to see him stand tough in the pocket in Q3, take a good hit and deliver a strike to Woods. His only obvious gaffe was a fumble of a clean shotgun snap in Q4. PLAYS OF NOTE Q1: 8:44 - Eric Wood misses blitz pressure up the middle and Tyrod scrambles for 1 yard Q1: 4:57 - Henderson doesn't pick up stunt correctly and #50 beats him to the inside, Tyrod throws it away Q1: :09 - Clean pocket, Colts only rush 4, Tyrod bomb to Harvin for TD Q2 2:00 - Miller doesn't pick up blitz, Colts blow up play action and Tyrod scrambles to avoid sack Q2 1:19 - Miller gets beat to the inside, Tyrod scrambles for long run Q3 12:45 - McCoy whiffs on blitz pickup and Tyrod gets hit while he throws.. stands tough in the pocket and completes to Woods Q4 - UNFORCED ERROR - Tyrod fumbles a good shotgun snap but recovers it Q4 10:52 UNFORCED ERROR - Good protection, coverage is good, Tyrod forces sideline pass to Sammy that is almost picked off.. ( should have thrown it away) Q4: 8:24 UNFORCED ERROR - Good protection, Tyrod overthrows Watkins on deep sideline route __________ __________ SUMMARY - Not bad for the first outing. Glenn and Incognito looked very sharp on the left side.. Wood, Miller and Henderson a little shaky on the right. Tyrod will most likely cover up a lot of the missed protections. The Bills are going to need to establish the run a little more if they want to keep taking deep shots. Expect the Patriots to throw more stunts and odd looks at Miller, Wood and Henderson.
  19. Jeff The Drunk leading the charge with his one good arm would be incredible...
  20. Figuring we could get 30 yds or so from Tyrod.. definitely take the over
  21. - After reading the article below I feel pretty good about our chances if we play the ground and pound ball control game on Sunday and keep the ball out of Luck's hands ( hopefully that's what Roman has in mind). Their linebackers are actually pretty decent and I believe they will be keying on the read option and focus on edge containment .. so I think Roman should old school with the fullback and we ram it downhill right down their throats. - The only concern I have about the running game is the health of the RBs.. but even with that the worst case scenario is that Bryce Brown gets the bulk of carries .. and I'm ok with that. Sure he's a fumble risk.. but he has demonstrated that he's very capable of moving the chains and making plays. - What does everyone else think? What is the weak point of the Colts? What should the offensive game plan be? http://www.stampedeblue.com/2015/9/7/9273995/colts-taking-a-gamble-with-very-inexperienced-defensive-line-group
  22. CBS Broadcast Team Play-by-Play: Spero Dedes Color Analyst: Soloman Wilcots - Wilcots isn't that bad. I hear him on Sirius NFL radio now and then and he knows his stuff. He'll be prepared and he is generally pretty objective. - Oh yeah... and I love hearing him say "The Beeels"
  23. - Long Term Outlook - Darby clearly has good speed and decent ball skills. He will be ok in the long run once he gets some experience. He's always going to be undersized but there have been plenty of good undersized CBs that have done well in the league. - Short Term - I understand that Rex has been "throwing him to the sharks" in this preseason to toughen him up... but I really hope he schemes to give Darby some safety help for this Colts matchup. I'm quite certain Luck will eat us alive if we blitz all game and leave our corners on an island. If we are gonna blitz I think we should be doing the zero blitz
