  1. Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How the QB did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. there also may be a few extra pass attempts that were cancelled due to penalites..but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS: 21 snaps ( much less than the 47 snaps last week.. .this is the winning formula. Show me games where the Bills throw less than 30 times and most likely you will have a win) LINE BREAKDOWNS: 5 / 21 snaps or 24% .. worse than last week which was 6 /47 snaps OR 13% SUFFICIENT PROTECTION: 16-21 snaps UNFORCED QB ERRORS: - 1 / 21 - TYROD TAYLOR HAD 1 UNFORCED ERROR ....EJ HAD 13 LAST WEEK!!! ( much better than last weeks 13/ 47 snaps or in other words EJ made the wrong decision on 28% of passing snaps). In other words Tyrod made the right decision on 95% of pass plays this week. Bottom Line: O-LINE FAIRLY SOLID: Every O lineman that wasnt named Miller had a solid day. Tyrod was sacked 4 times by my count and moved off his spot several other times. Saving grace however is the line held up nicely at the most crucial times.. ie.. the two bombs to Sammy. HENDERSON SOLID: I made a post earlier in the week criticizing the Bills for putting Seantrel back in the lineup and benching Kujo (who I thought was an upgrade over Henderson in the games he filled in for him). We found out later that Kujo had a knee injury.. so it's hard to tell if Henderson starting was due to merit or injury. Regardless, Henderson surprised me by coming back and having a relatively solid day. He was really only clearly beaten once on a speed move to the outside in Q3 but TT made the throw anyway. He did an excellent job buying time for TT on the q2 bomb to Sammy. Hopefully this is the game where Henderson turns the corner and plays solid from here on out.. we shall see. MILLER ROLLER COASTER: Wow what a crazy day for John Miller. He got a tough draw having to face a recharged Suh for most of the day. To put it plainly .. Suh flat out dominated Miller. Miller gave up two sacks and multiple pressures when guarding Suh. When Miller wasnt having to deal with Suh it was up and down for him. For example.. there was a sequence of back to back plays in Q1 where Miller misplayed a twist stunt and 53 was in TTs face and he had to scramble. On the next play he does an excellent job of identifying and correctly picking up a very similar stunt. Also in Q4.. Miller has a similar sequence of back to back plays where he gets blown up by Suh and Suh gets Taylor in the grasp.. then on the next play he is very stout .. holding up on a Suh bull rush just long enough for buy time for TT to throw the bomb to Sammy. On the positive side.. .he shows the ability to rebound after a bad play. On the negative side.. there are a lot of bad plays to rebound from. Hopefully we can chalk it up to being a rookie and having to face a monster named Suh. Urbik wasnt exactly lights out when he filled in for Miller so there really isnt an alternative here.. just gotta hope Miller can get his feet under him and play like he did in preseason. TYROD EXCELLENT AGAIN: Tyrod Taylor has been nearly perfect in his two games against Miami this year. His decision making and accuracy was fantastic this week. None of his decisions to tuck the ball and run when pass protect broke down were panic moves in my opinion. AGAIN.. TYROD APPEARED TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION ON 95% OF PASSING SNAPS THIS WEEK!!!! PLAYS OF NOTE Q1:14:26 UNFORCED ERROR Tyrod underthrows Woods on first play of game Q1-14:23 Miller doesnt pick up stunt 53 gets pressure on TT but TT has nice scramble for positive yards to avoid sack Q1-12:53 Miller picks up similar stunt on next play to redeem himself Q1-2:18 SACK - Dolphins DB not fooled on flea flicker hard to blame this one on o-line Q2-10:57 SACK Miller whiffs on Suh spin move.. Suh gets sack Q2-3:30 - Bomb to Sammy down left sideline Henderson does excellent job to buy TT time Q3-9:58 SACK coverage sack Q3- 8:38- Henderson beaten to the outside but TT stays cool and still delivers throw Q3- SUH blows by Miller again has TT in the grasp Q3-2:29 Miller rebounds holds up just long enough on Suh bull rush to allow TT to throw bomb to Sammy for TD Q4- 10:09 SACK Suh blows up Miller again. SUMMARY - If you take out Millers bad play.. the o line as a whole was very solid today in pass protect. Out of the 5 O line breakdowns.. Miller was accountable for 4 of them.. Henderson the other one. Wood, Incognito and Glenn were all solid. O Line Pass block grades GLENN A- INCOGNITO A- WOOD B- MILLER D HENDERSON B-
  2. More detailed review of pass protect coming up soon... spoiler alert.. Henderson actually played pretty well to my surprise
  3. That is absurdly good... He has the highest yards per attempt.. AND.. the highest completion percentage.
  4. I'm conflicted. On one hand I give him credit for how hard he worked ( running back and forth to high school with weights in his backpack..etc..) to earn the Penn State scholarship and get drafted and to earn that big money he lives off of now. On the other hand.. this whole "non conformist" excuse for leaving the NFL is lame. He himself admits he knew what he was signing up for. I do have sympathy for some of the personal issues he has faced.. but some of the other issues seem to have been self inflicted. There is a part in the story that says he is a methodical long term planner.. .so if that is true.. is it too much of a stretch to think that this take the money and run tactic was his plan all along? well said
  5. http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/nfl/bs-sp-aaron-maybin-nfl-artist-20151106-story.html Not quite sure what to think about this... Anyone else have an opinion?
  6. I'm pissed we couldn't scoop him up. Rex flew down and tried to put the hard sell on him but the damn Cowboys swooped in and got him
  7. An informed opinion... I take a fair amount of time each week re-watching the All 22 watching every pass snap..solely focusing on pass protection and grading each play God bless you for putting yourself through that torture... It was rough for me re-watching that one.
  8. I agree... I think the line does a good job pass blocking.. but it seems like the run blocking isn't anywhere near above average. I can remember watching 49er games when Roman was OC there and it was obvious that their O Line was doing really creative things in the run game and physically dominating their opponents on a regular basis. I don't think anyone would say the Bills are doing that now.
  9. I think this is a reasonable ranking.. for pass protection anyway. Glenn and Incogntio have been playing at a relatively high level... Incognito especially. Wood has had a few subpar games.. however.. on the whole he has been much improved over last year. He played especially well in the Miami game. Miller/Urbik have generally been below average. Henderson started strong but decline each game leading up to his god awful performance in Tennessee where he got hurt. Kouandjio has been passable as his replacement. In general .. the O Line has done it's job in every game this year and it's hard to blame poor QB performance on the line so far this year.. as opposed to last year when poor O Line play legitimately affected the majority of the games.
  10. Here is my analysis from the painful re-watch of that game on NFL Game Pass FULL ANALYSIS - http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/182393-film-review-olineunforced-qb-errors-week-7-jags/ Here's my blurb from that analysis about Kouandjio below.. KOUANDJIOU PASSABLE - Kouandjio's performance was about the same as last week against the Bengals. He generally held up well and has looked better than Henderson looked before his injury. He was not without error however. He committed a false start and was also beaten once in Q2 causing EJ to be hit. Overall.. save for these 2 mistakes he was fairly solid. Not dominating.. but solid enough
  11. To answer your question about what I'm seeing ...I do an in depth analysis watching the All 22 film focusing specifically on pass blocking each week and post it on this site. Here's an example...http://forums.twobillsdrive.com/topic/181925-film-review-olineunforced-qb-error-week-5-titans/ Here is my blurb about Henderson from that Titans game analysis.... SUMMARY – Henderson’s performance in pass protect really sabotaged what was an overall decent showing by the rest of the line as far as pass protect goes ( I can’t comment on the run blocking .. but I suspect it was poor). The Titans did a lot of delayed blitzing… and effectively blitzed guys from the secondary several times.. however.. I didn’t see too many stunts.. the pass rushes seemed pretty straight up for the most part. Taylor’s unforced off target throws hurt in the first half.. but like the Patriots and Giants games he rallied in the second half and played much better to close out the game. I really hope they give Kouandjio a shot at RT this week against the Bengals… He looked good in his short spot duty filling in for Glenn against the Giants and he has to be better than Henderson at this point. O Line Pass block grades GLENN – B- INCOGNITO – B WOOD – B MILLER – C HENDERSON – F-
  12. Jeeze... hate to agree with you about Mario as well.. but here I go..yes I am saying it...both Mario and KW should be on notice next year. If you think back to the successful Rex Ryan defenses of the past.. the D Lineman are designed to cannon fodder ..absorbing the blocking and freeing up the linebackers to roam free and wreak havoc. Guys like Tony Siragusa who do the dirty work and don't complain while the linebackers get all the glory. That being said.. I think we need to draft a Terrell Suggs like stud hybrid joker OLB/DE next year.
  13. I think re-signing Incognito is very doable.. being a guard we could probably sign him for $3-$5 mil/ year which won't break the bank or hinder us too much from extending/signing other players ( I believe the Broncos signed Evan Mathis for roughly ~$3 mil) It will be interesting to see what happens with Glenn. While he hasn't quite been playing at Pro Bowl level the last few years he is certainly an above average relatively young LT in his prime and most likely would be difficult to replace. Kouandjio looked solid filling in for him for the game he got hurt.. but that's a big leap to think he can develop into the player that Glenn is. With Rex being coach I'm sure he's biased to extending Gilmore over Glenn... I'm just a little worried that we are putting all of our eggs in the defense basket and that will come back to haunt us. I hate to say this.. but I'm going to go ahead and say it. .. The Bills should consider cutting or trading Kyle Williams next year if they need to free up cap space. I'd rather see the team keep both Glenn and Gilmore. Letting go of Meatball may be a good way to do this. Corbin Bryant and Stephan Charles are both very solid/cheap options to take his spot.
  14. I can agree to that. He's gone from potential bust to potential starter.
  15. It appears that Seantrel Henderson will be taking back his starting job at RT this week and CK will be back on the bench. What does everyone think about that? My opinion..... I think it's a poor choice. I just don't see why the coaches are so enamored with Henderson. I've watched a lot of all-22 on Henderson last year and this year and he seems to hold on by the seat of his pants in pass protect most of the time. Maybe I'm missing something.. maybe he's done well in run blocking??? I haven't analyzed that as closely??? For someone who has gotten so much hype from the previous and current coaching staffs.. I certainly haven't seen him dominate anyone yet. Take Cordy Glenn for example... 2 or 3 times a year he will have a game where he completely dominates his opponent and it clearly pops out on the game film. Haven't seen that from Henderson. He was brutally awful in the Titans game before he got hurt.. I'm talking epically awful.. like the worst performance I've seen from a Bills O Lineman in the last few years.. which is saying a lot considering Cyril Richardson, Erik Pears, Kraig Urbik and Chris Williams have had their share of doozies. In my opinion Kouandjio .. while he hasn't been dominant by any means.. has clearly outperformed Henderson in the games he's played since Henderson has been out due to injury. Hopefully Kouandjio's play gives Henderson the kick in the ass he needs to start playing better... if not.. Henderson should be on a short leash.
  16. He is definitely not sucking as much this year as last year. Last year more often than not he was below average.. getting both physically and mentally beaten on a regular basis. This year he looks to be much stouter at the point of attack and is making less mental mistakes.. ( although.. he still appears to misread the occasional stunt ).. but nowhere near as bad as he looked last year. Regarding being in the top 5 o lines... I suppose it's possible if you just look at pass protection that the Bills line deserves to be there. I have a hard time believing they rank in the top 5 in run blocking ( although that is just a subjective guess on my part as I have not reviewed the run blocking tape in depth... just basing that off the eyeball test)
  17. Based on what I've seen so far those rankings seem fair... •Glenn where he is middle of the pack ( he has been solid but not pro bowl/dominant level) •Kouandjio in the top 50 .. ahead of Henderson who is not even on the list. To my eye Kouandjio has held up pretty well considering the last few games have been his first real action at RT. To my eye he has been better than Henderson also.
  18. Wood has been up and down this year.. but I would say that on the whole he has performed at a higher level this year than last year... I would not say he has digressed. Last year he was consistently underperforming ( maybe having better guards next to him this year has helped??) He had a few games where he looked very solid, and a few games where he made a few mistakes ( mind you I only grade pass blocking so I don't know about run blocking) Even so.. I think looking for a new center in the draft next year is not a bad idea. He is certainly not the pro bowl caliber player he was earlier in his career.
  19. Thankfully next week is a bye week so I can just kick back relax and objectively watch other teams play. Silver lining in all this is that the O line has improved by leaps and bounds in pass protect compared to last year
  20. Unforced errors.. bad throws/ How did the O Line do?/ What mistakes are on the O-Line.. what ones are not? I watched the NFL rewind all 22 and here is my unofficial count of how the O-Line did / How the QB did on every pass play ( I may have missed a snap or two here.. there also may be a few extra pass attempts that were cancelled due to penalites..but this should be 95% accurate) DISCLAIMER ( I am not a coach, I don't know the hot reads or route combinations called.. this is just my educated perception of what happened on each pass play) _______ ______________________ TOTAL PASS PLAYS 47 snaps ( last week was 44 snaps) way too many pass attempts yet again LINE BREAKDOWNS 6 /47 snaps OR 13% ( about the same as last week's 6/ 44 snaps -or 14% ) SUFFICIENT PROTECTION 41 /47 snaps UNFORCED QB ERRORS: - 13/ 47 snaps or 28% ( worse than last week's 10/44 snaps or 23% ...in other words EJ had time to throw but missed his target or made wrong decision on 28% of these opportunities. LET ME RESTATE THAT.. EJ made unforced errors on nearly 1/3 of his attempts where he had time ( not good) Bottom Line: O-LINE FAIRLY SOLID Overall the O Line pass blocking was about the same as it was against the Bengals last week.. solid. EJ generally had time to hit the back of his drop and look to his 1st or 2nd read. They were not perfect.. each lineman ( except for Incognito)made at least one obvious mistake.. however.. they were few and in between. Not dominating.. but solid enough. URBIK NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT: Urbik was better this week than last week. Upon watching the game in real time he appeared to be struggling in pass protect all day.. but upon further review he did a decent job. He was only obviously beaten once in Q2 .. causing a hit on EJ and a errant throw. He also had a false start. EJ EJ EJ - EJ's 13 unforced errors were tough to watch. The accuracy issues are clearly still hampering his performance. The bad throws are frequently too high or too low having the effect of limiting YAC or in the case of missing Gragg in the end zone.. giving up points. Granted there were a few drops ( Clay, Hogan)... but double digit unforced errors are just not good enough for a NFL starting QB. Looking back at previous weeks here are Tyrod's unforced error tallies each week... Week 1 - 3 / Week 2 - 8 / Week 3 - 2 / Week 4 - 3 / and Week 5 - 4. EJ has had double digit unforced errors back to back weeks whereas Tyrod's worst game was 8 unforced errors against the Patriots. Clearly Tyrod makes less mistakes and is more accurate. With all that being said.. EJ still made a couple of great throws despite all the bad decisions/ accuracy issues. His deep ball is much improved.. and at times he displays good footwork and timing. PREVENT D: Upon watching the game in real time.. I was giving EJ much of the credit for the comeback. Upon further review.. the Jags D was playing prevent for most of the 2nd half and Roman did a good job of calling short timing routes to compensate.. so Kudos to EJ for keeping his head up .. but in reality many of his 2nd half throws were short routes to wide open receivers. PLAYS OF NOTE Q1: 14: 56 - UNFORCED ERROR - EJ throws bubble screen at Woods' feet Q1 - 11:41 - Hogan drops slant Q1- 11:36 - McCoy misses blitz EJ hit q1- 7:35 - UNFORCED ERROR - Overthrow to Gragg in endzone q1-3:11- SACK - Coverage sack q1-2:25- UNFORCED ERROR- failed checkdown to McCoy.. Hogan wide open on hitch on same side of field as McCoy q2-13:29- FALSE START Kouandjio q2-13:12- UNFORCED ERROR _ low throw to Woods forcing Woods to dive q2 -12:30 - UNFORCED ERROR - fumble on CB blitz... unaccounted blitzer should be QB's responsibility q2-12-:21 - UNFORCED ERROR - INT - EJ stares down WR - LB reads his eyes q2-10:06 - UNFORCED ERROR - INT - LB follows EJ''s eyes and gets pick.. plenty of time to throw q25:51 -UNFORCED ERROR - EJ bounces pass to Woods on ground q2-2:52- TD - beautiful fly route to Woods... hits drops and releases great timing q2 1:38 - Urbik beaten to outside.. forces bad throw q2 :46 - CK gets beat to outside... EJ hit and just misses TD throw to Hogan q4 : 15:00 - UNFORCED ERROR - EJ has time but forces throw into double coverage .. almost picked off in end zone q4 14:57- UNFORCED ERROR - overthrows fade to Gragg in endzone out of bounds q4-12:25- False start Urbik q4-12:09 - Wood misses stunt.. EJ hit q4-9:53 - UNFORCED ERROR - off target screen pass to McCoy q4 - FUMBLE - Wood gets blown up and his guy hits EJ causing fumble q4 - UNFORCED ERROR - SACK - EJ should have thrown it away q4 - 6:41 - TD - beautiful bomb to Easley q4- 57 - UNFORCED ERROR - EJ floats last out route to Woods.. more zip on ball may have resulted in completion SUMMARY The o-line was not the problem in the passing game today. Most of EJ's problems were of his own doing. Taking a second look at the All 22 Coaches Film. Taking a look at the Coaches Film.. it's obvious the Jags linebackers were keying on EJ's eyes and not worrying about much else when it came to pass coverage. If Tyrod is healthy and can get this type of protection from the O Line against the Dolphins.. the Bills should be in good shape ( assuming he has healthy receivers to throw to). O Line Pass block grades GLENN A- INCOGNITO A- WOOD C- URBIK C+ KOUANDJIO - C
  21. It's pretty clear he's not starting material ( evidenced by bounced passes, staring down receivers, tough time with screen passes) .. But I still think he's a reasonable backup. He showed leadership and toughness and determination in that game fighting back after that disastrous 1st half so I think his teammates still have some faith in him. He showed he's capable of making a handful of big plays on any given day. He does have a consistent problem with fumbling but he doesn't really have a history of throwing too many picks so I think today was a bit of an anomaly. Remember... our BACKUP lost the game today.. What were we expecting
  22. Anyone heard any more details about this? Was it for whole game?
