It's a start. He graded out 67.0 pass protect by PFF (granted that was at guard). .. for context Riley Reiff graded out at 68.7 pass protect . Haven't seen the contract details yet.. but if we are getting him for $4 mil or less per year I'm fine with this move

Bills tried to sign RT Ricky Wagner; headed to Lions
Bocephuz replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2017OT.php Walter football seems to be the most spot on analysis site to my eyes. Looking at their list .. and considering Wagner is gone.. I would say Beachum would be my next best RT target based on his age and profile. I think I'd be ok paying him $6 mil. I think Reiff is overrated.. I wouldn't pay him more than $4 mil/year. Okung hasn't really played RT. -

If they can get him for under $8 mil or under I'd be very pleased. Hell .. I don't mind even overpaying a little. Mills was a disaster last year... Kouandjio is much better on the left side..and Henderson was underwhelming when healthy. This is really the last piece of the puzzle to create a Dominant O Line. Good pass protect gives an average QB ( Tyrod, Siemian.. Cutler.. whoever it ends up being) a chance to be above average. -

I live in Baltimore and occasionally watch the Ravens. He wasn't so good on at LT when he first started in the league but has been very solid at RT protecting Joe Flacco. I would grade his pass protect a B+ and his run blocking a C. Not really a mauler.. but a good technician. Good fit for new scheme under Dennison likely -
I would sign up for this. Apparently Foster dropped some weight and would be good fit as MLB in McDermott D.. which is key position Obi seems like a versatile safety with size enough to play in the box and fast enough to cover the back end ok Jones looked really good in Senior Bowl.. not sure if he'll last til the 3rd (maybe small school hurts him?) but if he's available here definitely take him For whatever reason Webb has been underrated by most of the pundits. He has prototypical size, strong arm, is aggressive.. does a decent job getting the ball out in time and in rhythm. Decent footwork for big guy who is in shotgun most of time. Not that familiar with Fields as I haven't really looked into any of the DEs or D Linemen much Gonzalez - seems to be the best kicker available in draft. Why not.. Carpenter will be gone. Give him a shot in training camp and if he wins he will be super cheap.

$1.6 mil in savings could help you re sign valuable depth. For example.. you could likely sign either Brandon Tate (who was very solid in the return game last year) or Justin Hunter (a decent 3rd or 4th receiver) with those savings.

Wood is a good guest .. gives good insight. That would be missed.

Robyn Mundy from BillsWire wrote this piece.. http://billswire.usatoday.com/2017/02/21/if-ryan-groy-re-signs-with-bills-could-eric-wood-become-expendable/ Should Whaley cut Wood? Should he replace him with Ryan Groy? In my opinion this is a no brainer. Wood is currently the 8th highest paid center at 6.35 mil/ year average. According to Spotrac low- end centers get paid ~ $2mil/year. I think a 3 year deal averaging ~$2 mil/year with no guaranteed money would win us Groy's services saving the Bills ~$4 mil in cap space along the way Wood is a great character guy/leader but there was literally no drop off in play when he broke his leg and Groy stepped in. Wood is on the wrong side of 30 There are some decent Centers/Guards available in the later rounds (John Toth) and even in the earlier rounds if we want (Pat Elefin) that would be much cheaper long term options if Groy doesn't pan out In general .. an NFL team shouldn't be paying a premium for Centers

"thought to be appealing" doesn't sound very definitive to me -
Living in Baltimore and watching the occasional Ravens game.. Ricky Wagner has looked very solid the times I've watched him. If he's available he's probably the best RT on the market. I'd pay him $8 mil/ year regardless of what happens with TT and whether extra cap space is freed up. Looking at the dearth of OT talent in the draft .. I think the Bills would be wise to make RT #1 priority and I have no problem spending some money there.

What 1 position should the Bills focus on in FA?

RT - head and shoulders above all other needs... not a good crop of tackles in the draft. Sign Ricky Wagner for ~$5 mil/year .. lock up the RT for the next few years and call it a day -
Evaluation of 5 Quarterbacks in the 2017 Draft

Good observation.. He's like a white unicorn because he actually has film operating under center.. so perhaps in relation to the other guys footwork is excellent but relative to NFL standards probably not -
Evaluation of 5 Quarterbacks in the 2017 Draft
Bocephuz replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Good insight... format OP. I have a little different take on Mahomes.. and also am higher on Davis Webb. Below is my chart I used to evaluate the various QBs after watching game film on Draftbreakdown.com. I watched cutups of 3 games for each qb. KIZER ARM STRENGTH - Kizer appeared to have the strongest arm out of all the prospects. I don't see any limitations with him not being able to reach different parts of the field ACCURACY - This is the one area where he is a bit hit and miss. Most of the time he throws with good anticipation and puts the ball in a favorable spot for his WR to have YAC. There are however periods of time when his accuracy dips POCKET PRESENCE - Kizer has a very calm presence in the pocket. His body type and demeanor remind me of Warren Moon/ Dak Prescott. For me this is the trait that stands out for him the most compared to the other prospects QUICK GAME - Kizer does an adequate job of executing the quick/short timing game. This is not his strong suit. DRIVES BALL - Kizer has very good balance and does an excellent job of driving the ball with velocity to all parts of the field DEEP MIDDLE - I saw several examples of Kizer displaying nice touch and velocity on deep middle routes DEEP SIDELINE - Kizer's deep sideline ball is not as nice as his middle field deep throws.. he lacks a little touch. Nevertheless.. I saw him hit a few showing he's capable of executing that throw. FOOTWORK - From what I saw Kizer had little to no reps from under center. With that being said.. his footwork/timing for a shotgun qb (which can be tricky) was the calmest.. most synched compared to the other prospects AGGRESSIVENESS - Kizer is not afraid to take shots and fit balls into tight windows. MOBILITY - Kizer has very good mobility for a guy his size and there were many examples of him escaping the pocket to pick up first downs. His in-pocket mobility is also the most developed IMO. TOUGHNESS - Kizer took some big hits .. and also dished out a few himself. Not afraid to launch his body at defenders. RED ZONE - Kizer was effective/efficient in the red zone games I watched DECISION MAKING - Kizer appeared to be decisive in executing his reads.. and the chances he took fitting balls into tight windows appeared reasonable for the most part. GRADE - RD 1 CEILING - HIGH WEBB ARM STRENGTH - Webb's arm strength is slightly behind Kizer's.. but better than the rest of the field. I don't see any limitations with him not being able to reach different parts of the field ACCURACY - Webb's accuracy was surprisingly consistent. Most throws were placed in favorable positions for the WR... especially on the intermediate throws. POCKET PRESENCE - Webb generally stands tall in the pocket, keeps his eyes downfield and delivers. I saw several examples of him sacrificing ..staying in the extra second to take a hit so he could execute a throw. QUICK GAME - Webb does an adequate job of executing the quick/short timing game. His offense called for many bubble screens and short one step drops which he adequately executed for the most part DRIVES BALL - Webb can consistently drive the ball to all parts of the field.. even if he is off balance or his footwork is off. He will occasionally try and lob balls into spots where he should be driving the ball (there was a good example of this in the Senior Bowl) DEEP MIDDLE - This is one of Webb's strong suits. With his height, vision and patience and arm strength.. he was consistently able to hit deep seam routes over the middle accurately allowing YAC for the receiver DEEP SIDELINE - As displayed in the Senior Bowl.. Webb throws the nicest deep sideline ball out of all the prospects. FOOTWORK - Having little to no experience under center.. his footwork can be a little sloppy at times. He is able to overcome the bad footwork with his strong arm many times.. but that may not fly as well in the NFL AGGRESSIVENESS - Webb is ultra aggressive and is always looking to take intermediate and deep shots. Not afraid to place the ball in tight up for grabs windows. MOBILITY - Has very decent mobility for a guy his size .. is good at hanging in pocket and shifting to buy time TOUGHNESS - Webb can take a hit and keep going. RED ZONE - Webb was effective/efficient in the red zone games I watched DECISION MAKING - This is one area where he can be inconsistent. He sometimes takes too many chances that defenses make him pay for. GRADE - RD 2 CEILING - HIGH TRUBISKY ARM STRENGTH - Trubisky's arm strength is adequate.. he can hit most areas of the field. He does not drive the ball as well as Watson, Kizer, Webb however. ACCURACY - This is his strength. Out of all prospects... Trubisky is most consistent in throwing with anticipation and leading his receivers. POCKET PRESENCE - Trubisky generally looks comfortable in the pocket when he is able to hit his drop and get the ball out quickly. He can be a little rattled when his first read isn't there and he has to buy himself time QUICK GAME - Outstanding. Has a great clock in his head and excels in being able to get the ball out of his hands quickly to his playmakers. DRIVES BALL - Not a weak arm.. but more of a touch thrower than a dart thrower DEEP MIDDLE - Is able to see plays develop over the deep middle and is not afraid to attempt and can execute these throws DEEP SIDELINE - There are several examples of him completing deep sideline throws. FOOTWORK - Good footwork / synchronization with receivers. Should be a good West Coast QB. AGGRESSIVENESS - Tends to take what's given to him rather than waiting for deeper routes to develop.. but will take the occasional downfield shot MOBILITY - In the pocket .. not so great. Outside the pocket he is a surprisingly effective runner. TOUGHNESS - Mitch can take a hit and keep going.Displays toughness running the ball.. sometimes a little reckless. RED ZONE - Webb was very effective/efficient in the red zone the games I watched. DECISION MAKING - Consistently solid..makes decisive throws.. generally does not put his team in bad spots. GRADE - RD 2 CEILING - MAY BE CLOSE TO CEILING ALREADY WATSON ARM STRENGTH - No issues. Can hit all points of the field. ACCURACY - Somewhat inconsistent. At times shows solid anticipation, touch and effectively puts the ball into tight windows where only receiver can make a play. At other times throws are behind or off target POCKET PRESENCE -One of his strengths. Even though he is very mobile he is willing to sit in the pocket.. scan the field, take a hit if necessary to deliver a strike. QUICK GAME - Generally solid at executing the quick game DRIVES BALL - Solid arm.. can reach all areas of the field. Not as much zip as Kizer but nevertheless can throw it on a rope. DEEP MIDDLE - This is one area where he seemed to have some issues DEEP SIDELINE - There are several examples of him completing deep sideline throws with touch. FOOTWORK - Good footwork / synchronization with receivers even though predominately shotgun. AGGRESSIVENESS - Very aggressive.. consistently tries to look for intermediate/deep receivers and not afraid to try and force the ball into tight windows MOBILITY - Good pocket shiftiness and also a threat running for yardage. Generally uses good judgement when to run/ not to run TOUGHNESS - Doesn't shy away from contact RED ZONE - Out of all prospects.. he is strongest in the Red Zone. Very confident.. very effective. DECISION MAKING - His ultra aggressive style can often put his team in bad spots GRADE - RD 2 CEILING - HIGH PETERMAN ARM STRENGTH - Adequate arm strength.. but not as much zip as other prospects listed here. ACCURACY - Very solid. Generally throws with anticipation and leads receivers. POCKET PRESENCE -One of his strengths. As one of the only prospects who consistently took snaps under center he has displayed good NFL style pocket presence. QUICK GAME - Generally solid at executing the quick game DRIVES BALL - Occasionally drives the ball.. but relies more on timing and touch. DEEP MIDDLE - Outstanding. He consistently attacks the deep middle with accurate throws. DEEP SIDELINE - I did not see many examples of him attempting or completing deep sideline throws. FOOTWORK - Excellent. Experience under center allows him to display 3, 5 and 7 step drops. Generally gets ball out of his hand when he hits his drop. AGGRESSIVENESS - Good aggressiveness. Keeps eyes downfield and generally tries to prioritize intermediate/deep balls. MOBILITY - Not as mobile as the other guys.. but not a statue either. TOUGHNESS - Doesn't shy away from contact RED ZONE - He had mixed results in the Red Zone opportunities I saw.. did a good job in Senior Bowl in red zone. DECISION MAKING - Saw a few bad decisions/ picks that put his team in bad spots. GRADE - RD 3 CEILING - MOST NFL READY NOW.. CEILING NOT HIGH -
Wagner would be solid RT FA pickup.. Keep Kujo as swing backup tackle As much as Wood has been a good character guy.. I would be fine with cutting him to save $5 mil in cap space. Groy played very well in his place to finish the season out and is much cheaper. Maybe draft your long term center in 3rd or 4th round
-
.. ok.. Stanford game is rough. But other game tape is impressive apparently the knock on him is lack of deep ball... but if you watch San Diego St game he hit on several nice deep go routes

I've been catching up on watching QB prospects at draftbreakdown.com .. and the guy that keeps popping off the screen for me is Davis Webb from Cal. He has good size, drives the ball, decent footwork (for a shotgun guy) and is aggressive. He's more of a classic pocket passer.. but he has some mobility. Not sure why the draftniks aren't talking about him more. Anyway.. would love to hear other's thoughts? Please poke holes .. because I am having a hard time finding many flaws here. http://draftbreakdown.com/players/davis-webb/

Kyle Posey: Debunking the Tyrod Taylor Myth
Bocephuz replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We're not really cash strapped after picking up the option. Based on the info I have.. we would still have ~21mil in cap space if we pick up TT's option and don't cut anyone else. And if we need to free up cash I would do the following ( cut Eric Wood - Groy did a very good job filling in / Cut Kyle Williams - love him but is on the wrong side of 30 - Let Gilmore walk - can find a decent zone safety in FA for half the price to take his place). Drafting a QB .. even in the 1st round won't be that expensive . Paxton Lynch is averaging ~$2mil/ season.. Goff is averaging ~$6 mil/ season... So if we draft one #10 the salary will be somewhere in between there. Cutting Eric Wood would pay for that -
Kyle Posey: Debunking the Tyrod Taylor Myth
Bocephuz replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Based on my all 22 posts this year.. I think TT is "capable" of making good reads and using the middle of the field. He's "capable" of executing a lot of different things. But "capable" is different than consistently demonstrating. He demonstrated progress this year in several areas where he had weakness in 2015 (short hitch routes/ timing routes, throwing on time, using middle of the field, using the TE, red zone). . The problem is.. he only had one performance (week 16 - Miami) where he demonstrated all of these traits on the same day. For example.. the first NE game showed he was capable of executing a 3 step drop/quick timing passing game. There were also several games later in the year where he was consistently attempting and completing intermediate/middle throws. The Seattle game was great example of him improvising. He even started utilizing Clay appropriately the last few gamesThe problem is.. he wasn't able to consistently apply these different traits in certain game situations where they were most needed. Here are my write-ups from week 7 on. You will note that in most games TT demonstrated progression in areas. .. but there was always "one thing missing".. and the problem is that "one thing" varied from week to week _ ___ 49ers week 7 - (deep ball missing) - TYROD HAS "ALMOST" COMPLETE GAME - Tyrod completed many different types of throws today. His quick timing game was solid.. he scrambled and made throws on the run.. and he had a few plays where he side stepped pressure, stepped up into the pocket and delivered. The one throw missing (which has been missing for a few weeks now) is the deep sideline "Go" route that he is usually so good at throwing. He attempted one today in the first half to Goodwin .. but unfortunately the O Line broke down on that play forcing an underthrow. Patriots week 8 - (deep ball/ red zone bad) -TYROD MISSES DEEP/ STRUGGLES THROWING TO RED ZONE- Not all of the blame can be put on TT for this one (O Line melted down in Q4, Receivers had bad drops) however... a fair amount of blame should go his way. His biggest misses were 2 deep balls to Powell in q3.. in both cases he didn't really give Powell a chance to catch the ball. And in both cases.. TT had a relatively clean pocket to throw from . Seahawks week 9 - (not throwing into tight windows) - TYROD VERY CAREFUL/ VERY ELUSIVE/ VERY EFFECTIVE - When I watched this game in real time I was a bit concerned that TT was bailing out of the pocket too early on a lot of plays. After re-watching I only saw one time that he obviously bailed out early. I was also concerned that he was not going through his reads and was doing too much improvising. This was also not the case. As I will show below.. TT displayed several instances where he went through multiple progressions before checking down.. or deciding it was time to scramble and buy more time. Seattle typically had several dbs in a deep shell coverage.. so there were very few opportunities for him to attempt the deep throws he so excels at. For the most part he did an excellent job taking what the D was giving him and attacking the soft spots in what appeared to be mostly zone defense. My only criticism is that he is still a hair late on delivering some throws and he is still not being anticipatory enough. This is splitting hairs a little I realize.. However.. It's clear if you watch Russell Wilson you will see many examples of "throwing" guys open or "throwing into tight windows". Hopefully TT will become confident enough in his WRs to do that at some point in the future. Really.. that is the only thing I can criticize him for in this game. I re-watched the game ending sequence several times to see if TT could have done anything better or if he obviously missed any chances on the last few plays there.. and quite frankly there were no good options for him on that last throw. Can't really pin the failed comeback on TT this time. Week 11 - Bengals (throwing late- bad in red zone) - TYROD MISSES EARLY OPPORTUNITIES.. BAD IN RED ZONE. TT was sloppy today.. especially in the red zone (the really bad interception on a forced throw to Goodwin... also another bad out route in the red zone that could have gone for a pick six if the db didn't drop it). He didn't really have any "wow" throws like he did in Seattle. This sloppiness is very much out of character for him. What's worse is that the balls that were forced were late/ desperate throws. I can live with interceptions if they come from being aggressive and throwing into tight windows on time.. but these late un-smart forced throws are completely indefensible. Week 12 - Jags (solid coverage/ not taking chances)- TYROD HOLDING THE BALL.. WHAT REALLY CAUSED IT? - Watching in real time it was maddening to see several plays where the O Line was holding up yet TT was not pulling the trigger on throws. Some of these plays led to sacks. Was it his WRs not getting separation? Was it TT being too conservative? Were some of these coverage sacks? In short.. to my eye 3 of the situations where he was patting the ball and not pulling the trigger were legitimate coverage sacks where there were no good options for TT to throw to. Jacksonville rarely blitzed and they were dropping their LBs and Safeties deep on many plays. Week 13 Oak ( miscommunication, errant inaccurate throws) - TYROD - TALE OF TWO HALVES - First of all .. I want to reiterate.. the offensive line did not have a true breakdown in pass protect until halfway through the 3rd quarter.. so again kudos to the O Line. If one is looking to assign blame as to why the passing attack sputtered in the 2nd half.. one would not assign the majority of the blame to the O Line. 1st HALF - Tyrod came out and confidently attacked the Oakland D in the 1st half. In general.. he was in rhythm .. hitting his drop and getting the ball out of his hands to his receivers for most of the 1st half. There were several nicely timed anticipatory come back throws. Tyrod also took several chances over the intermediate middle.. completing several tight window throws q1 2:40 - This is an example of TT being aggressive .. trusting his receiver .. and fitting ball into a tight window in the middle of the field.. between 3 defenders. Gillislee also does an excellent job of picking up the blitzer here 2nd Half - marred by miscommunication, missed opportunities and inaccurate throws Week 14- Steelers (1st qtr meltdown, rare bad interceptions) - TYROD 1st QUARTER MELTDOWN Of the 7 Unforced Errors TT committed.. 4 of them came in the first quarter. These errors were a big reason the Bills found themselves in a hole they could not dig out of. The first drive was not pretty. John Miller gave up a bad sack on the very first play. TYROD INTERCEPTIONS - I dont have GIFs for these.. but suffice it to say that neither of the interceptions can be attributed to O Line breakdowns. The q1 INT that bounced off of Woods hands due to TT getting the ball to him late when it should have been there right when Woods came out of his break. The INT in the 2nd half was a case of TT misreading the defense and thinking they were in man when they were in zone. TYROD POSITIVES - One nice trend that weve seen over the past few weeks is TT starting to use the middle of the field more. By my count 7 of his 30 pass attempts were targeting the middle of the field. He executed several tight window well timed over the middle passes against the Steelers ___ __ Bottom line.. my point is. It seems like every week TT would demonstrate progress in one area.. but take a step back in another. This is why the decision to pick up the option is so difficult for many. Can we bet on his consistency going forward or not? -

Mahomes looks very similar to Tyrod based on what I've seen
