  1. Yeah. You need some continuity if it makes financial sense. Of those three two will be very cheap and the other (Ques) shouldn’t be that much more.
  2. Beane is good with the cap but he is not special in that regard. GMs are almost all really good at it - and the poor ones don’t last long.
  3. What about OL? We have 5 under contract next season. I think we sign (or re-sign) several and draft at least two. Here are the OL FAs: Quessenberry Saffold Van Roten Boetteger Hart Murray On the roster: Dawkins Morse Bates Brown Doyle I’d bring back some of them - Quessenberry, Van Roten and Boetteger if their contracts are reasonable.
  4. Agreed. Saffold too. He was a bad signing and should not be back. Motor probably depends on price. Lots to debate. List of FAs is here: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/buffalo-bills/ Spotrac estimates Edmunds’ value at $11M AAV. I’d be okay with that, but no way he takes it. He’ll be looking for a whole lot more and I think some team will give it to him. I just don’t want it to be the Bills. They have Motor’s at $5.5M. I think the RB market will push down salaries. I’d look to sign him or a comparable RB for a lot less.
  5. The repeated blitzing of Edmunds is a fireable offense IMO. He is one of the worst blitzers I’ve ever seen.
  6. I watched the game on delay and was FFing thru so I missed his comment on Lawrence’s throw - and most of his commentary in this game. I was speaking more generally. I assume you mean the bomb to Kirk. If so, that’s a poor call by Romo and fair comment by you. I thought the WR had to dive because he didn’t adjust to the ball. That one wasn’t on Lawrence, it was on Kirk. As for Collinsworth’s schtick in general, I guess it does get into the territory of being biased. I don’t blame him for talking up Mahomes or previously Brady, but he definitely gets into the realm of them not being able to do wrong.
  7. Crap. You’re right. He moved to ESPN this season. I had not noticed that. That’s fair.
  8. No Joe Buck after he spilled the tea on the NFL wanting the Bills and Bengals to resume the game after Hamlin almost died. No surprise there.
  9. How is it biased? Mahomes has been one of the best QBs/players in the league for the five seasons he’s played and he will almost certainly win his second league MVP this year. Collinsworth is terribly annoying and way over the top with his constant, effusive praise, yes. But you’re going to have to explain how it’s biased.
  10. Constantly talking up the faces of the NFL seems like something the NFL would specifically encourage the announcers to do. I suspect that is the driving force behind it. But, my God, it is annoying. I’m guessing Burrow and Allen get some of the same treatment from Romo today though.
  11. I think it’s a combo of scheming him open early and Mahomes buying time when that doesn’t work. The two of them are dialed in to each other. The announcers actually had some great comments about Mahomes reading Kelce’s body language so he knew when he was turning for the ball. KC has a lot of extended passing plays where that comes into play. True, but they did that with a hobbled Mahomes and Chad Henne. Mahomes ankle’s health looms large for next Sunday.
  12. If the Bills win it all this season, they will have very much earned it. Cincy, KC and SF/Philly is a helluva gauntlet. One game at a time.
  13. I am not saying that the Ravens fired Roman so they could keep Lamar, I’m just saying Lamar might be more inclined to sign a long term contract with Baltimore with an OC who emphasizes the passing game rather than the running game.
  14. I’m on the other side of that. I think it makes a Lamar contract much more likely. I believe Lamar hated Roman’s offense and not having good WRs because none of them wanted to play in it.
  15. 60%. Joe B is for real and they have the best WR trio in the league, but that OL is a real issue for the Bengals. Nice defense too, except for the CBs.
  16. Fun fact: It’s not Schwartz’s first stint in Cleveland. He coached there under Belichick before the team moved to Baltimore.
  17. There’s some real truth to this. A lot of the negatives we see with Allen are a function of the things he does that give us so many positives. To a large degree, ya just have to live with it. There are a few things he can do better, yes, of course. No one is perfect. He’s been a bit better tucking the ball when getting sacked or running with it, but obviously there’s still room for improvement there. In the Phins game, the deep interception was bad. I’m not sure what happened there, but it was bad. Overall, however, his positives very much outweighed his negatives. PFF noted that he had 3 turnover worthy plays, which is a bit on the high side but not egregious. They also gave him credit for 7 big time throws. That’s absurdly high for a single game and outweighs the bad. The only criticism of Allen in the Phins game that holds weight for me is his lack of adjustment to the changing coverages. The Phins came hard with cover 0 early and often, then backed off and mixed it up. The backing off was because Allen made them (primarily Howard IIRC) pay, but Allen seemed stuck in kill shot mode for the whole game and didn’t take the easier stuff when it was there later. That seems very correctable with study of the game so I’m not too worried about it at this point. It’s worth watching to see if the Bengals try the same thing this weekend.
  18. An uncharacteristically quality move
  19. He’s had the best career of any QB ever. I might not like him, but I certainly respect him now. That won’t change.
  20. For as often as the play clock is near or at 0 in games there has to be something else happening. Possibly the substitution rule’s impact on the game. It often takes a little time for the offense to substitute, then the defensive subs take time and by then the clock is way down. I’d hate to see the NFL pause the play and game clocks for the defensive subs if the offense hasn’t made their subs in reasonable time, but I can’t think of another good solution except maybe not calling 12 men on the field for players near the sideline who are clearly leaving and not impacting the play.
  21. This team can’t waste that kind of money on TE2. He’s a good pass catching TE and someone will pay him.
  22. Whether the QBs were tagged or not is irrelevant. What teams gave up in trade - draft capital and players - and what contracts they gave the QBs are what matters. The Ravens are far too smart to mess this up. They’ll use the exclusive rights franchise tag on him if they can’t come to an agreement first. I think this is headed for a tag and trade scenario. Some QB needy team will pony up big. Also where are you getting your tag values? They aren’t what I’ve seen on Spotrac and OTC. ERFT is top five cap hits at position or 120% of previous year’s salary. Non-ERFT is top 5 salaries at position or 120%.
  23. Watson got his huge, fully guaranteed contract and netted Houston 3 first round picks plus a bunch of other picks. Lamar will get them more than 2 firsts. They will get a say in exactly what the compensation is plus a say in where he will go. Sending him to the NFC is certainly preferable to an AFC team. There is no downside to them using the exclusive tag. I can’t even remember the last time a team used the non-exclusive one.
  24. No, I think the use of the non-exclusive franchise tag is much less likely. The non-exclusive tag would allow him to negotiate with other teams and sign a contract with one. The Ravens would have the opportunity to match it and retain him - or they’d get two first round draft picks as compensation. That would take negotiating power for trade compensation out of the Raven’s hands. I don’t think they’ll do that. The exclusive rights franchise tag means that he can’t negotiate with other teams without the Ravens permission. They will want that control.
