McBean’s draft history and who we draft at 27
BarleyNY replied to LEBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think that’s the reasoning. If a player can excel in college at a younger age, then they have a better chance at being a good pro than a player who doesn’t excel in college until they are among the oldest players competing. -
McBean’s draft history and who we draft at 27

I recently read an analysis of younger vs older draft picks. There did seem to be something to taking the younger prospects - even in the early seasons after being drafted. It wasn’t so much that their production was off the charts great so much as the older prospects did relatively poorly overall. Even the best GMs have a hit rate below 50%. -

Nice work. Thank you for posting. -
Probably sitting at home texting with friends and posting on football boards.

I watch nearly every tOSU game. The kid is massive and has talent, but I didn’t always love what I saw from him on the field. The potential for a very high ceiling is there, but I hate drafting early on potential. Drafting him on day 2 has a lot more appeal than on day 1.

No worries. I don't think Virgil has been around much today and hadn't updated pick 11 yet.
-
Thanks, but I traded the 11th pick in my trade up to 3 for Stroud. For those interested, the trade was pick #11, pick #72 and the Titans 2024 first round pick for pick #3. @NeverOutNick is on the clock for the Arizona Cardinals.

I sure hope so.

No big stories, but my kids took precedence on a number of occasions. I’d record games and watch them when I could. If I was pressed for time sometimes I’d peek at the score and see if the game was worth carving out time to watch. I found one great way to squeeze everything in on a Sunday was to record the game and spend time with my kids. Then between 2:30 and 3:00 I’d start the game from the beginning and FF through the commercials, half time and other dead time. I’d watch the whole game in under 90 min most often and end around the same time as the live broadcast. Then back to the family.

That’s the truth.

I used to be a launcher. Now in my middle ages I simply take it to a corral. There are self-serving reasons for returning carts though. One is that your choice could be observed by friends or acquaintances and that your choice will impact their opinion of your character. A second is that by returning the cart you are enforcing the social norm of doing so, thus decreasing the chances of the wind blowing a cart into the side of your new Porsche.

DHopkins would cost a 2nd round pick...would you do it?

Move seen this trade idea floated before (Locked on Bills I think). It’s a good one. It allows AZ to save face (We moved up for a 1st round pick!). The reality is that while the JJ trade chart shows the Bills giving up the equivalent of a third, the quality of prospects available at 27 and 34 in this draft will be very similar. -
Let’s see how that plays out. Rodgers has a huge contract and is likely a one year rental. At most he’s a two year rental for wherever he goes. And he’s coming off a down season (for him). GB can posture about waiting until the pay date on Rodger’s bonus, but I don’t see how they can take the risk of having him at mandatory OTAs next month. If he gets injured they could wind up having to pay the whole $59.5M he’s owed this season. I could see a 2nd round pick this year and a conditional pick next depending on Rodger’s/Jets’ performance - and whether Rodgers plays in 2024. So a 2024 first might be on the table if the right conditions get met. Also there could be a flip of 13 & 15, 13 for a second back or something like that, but I don’t see 13 straight up happening.

That makes sense. Here’s a LINK to an article about it. I actually thought it was a statement by his agent, but it’s a rumor that this is what he told his agent. So I’ll back off of my stance too. IF this is true, then GB has no leverage. If not, then they still have some.

Rodgers said he’ll play for the Jets or retire. What other team would trade for him under those circumstances? It’s over. He won the stand-off.

Peter King/FMIA/PFT 1st Round Mock Draft
BarleyNY replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree. It’d be nice if he blew up, but I think we know who he is now. The question will be how the Bills value him versus what he can get in FA next year. With all the other places we are spending I think they wind up letting him walk, but you never know. Put your offer out there and let the player look around. They usually leave (Edmunds) but sometimes they come back (Poyer). -
I sincerely doubt they have to give up their first. Rodgers just eliminated most of GB’s leverage.

Peter King/FMIA/PFT 1st Round Mock Draft
BarleyNY replied to Sierra Foothills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think there’s zero chance of the Bills tagging Davis. The projected WR franchise tag in 2024 is $24M. Transition is $21.3M. That would be insane. His market value would probably be around 4/$50M. You could sign him to that contract, guarantee the first two seasons and get him for two years for the price of the FT. And the cap hits would be structured much better. Also what team would be stupid enough to trade for Davis on a 1 year $24M contract? Insanity. -
I was born and raised in Cleveland. I lived most of my life there. They are a football town through and through. NFL, college and high school. No other sport is close. Growing up my Fall weekend sometimes consisted of going to a good HS football match up on Friday, watching the Buckeyes and other college games on Saturday and then the Browns and NFL games on Sunday. Note that I often had no connection to either school team. But I knew I’d see a bunch of future D-1 players and probably an NFL player or two. Some Cleveland recommendations: - West Side Market. TaKe some time on a Saturday morning to do your grocery shopping there. Dozens of local vendors selling produce, meats and any number of fresh, handmade foods. Literally one of my favorite places anywhere. Grab a gyro from Steve’s Gyros while you’re there. They’re great. - Get to the Cleveland Museum of Art. It’s a much nicer museum than most cities have. Lots of Asian stuff, particularly from Japan. They had a curator in the WW2 era that worked to preserve a lot of art in Japan. After the war they thanked him by gifting the museum a lot of artwork. - Go to see the Cleveland Orchestra. Even if you’re not a classical music fan go see them at Blossom. If you have kids take them to a family friendly show. A couple times a summer they’ll show movies with the score dropped and play it all live. Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. Pack a big picnic and get there hours before the show starts to sit in the sun and eat and drink. BTW, bringing your own alcohol is permitted for those shows. They usually have a small fireworks show after. Great date, great with friends and great for families. Lawn seats are inexpensive and kids are always free.

The Arizona Cardinals have traded the 3rd overall pick to the Tennessee Titians for picks #11 and #72 this year plus Tennessee’s first round pick in 2024. With the 3rd pick in the 2023 NFL draft the Tennessee Titians select CJ Stroud, QB, The Ohio State University. @BigdaddyinOrlando is on the clock for the Indianapolis Colts.

Happy to take any team except Carolina. Oiltans maybe?

BarleyNY replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall
LOL. Hopkins gets to pick where he goes now due to him having to rework his contract - and he’ll get to pick where he goes if he gets cut. No change. He wants to play for a contender so the list is short. Same list today as it is after he gets cut. -

Yup. We know this for sure: Not having a player like Hopkins on the field with Diggs didn’t play out well last season. -

BarleyNY replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nope. Not happening for a second round pick. Not with that contract. My caveat is that if AZ wants to eat a huge portion of his salary this year then I’d change my answer to yes. But I do not think they will do that. Fifth round to get it done or I wait until they have to cut him. -
Sorry man. TBH I have only had time to look at a handful of players. I just watch some whole game film on weekend mornings when I’m having coffee. Not much time for it these days.
