  1. Agreed. Good FOs don’t compound their mistakes. One issue regarding trading Oliver is that I don’t see a market for him until the free agent DTs who are considered better players - or at least better values - get signed. If we move him at that point we won’t be able to acquire an adequate replacement. We could sign a replacement first, but that would probably hurt his trade value. I just do not see him getting traded, except for maybe a player for player trade.
  2. In general I’m not a fan of paying big contracts to off-the-ball LBs so I’m probably out on retaining Edmunds as a matter of principle. I expect him to get a 5 year contract at between $15M-$20M AAV and that puts him out of my range. But he did really take a step forward in 2022 and had his best season, so there’s some production we will need to replace if he walks. I can certainly see why fans would want him back. But at what price? Say Edmunds gives the Bills a chance to match his best deal. I’m interested to hear how high people would want the Bills to go. 5/$100M? 5/$87.5M? 5/$75M?
  3. It takes a special lack of self awareness to hand kids participation trophies (instead of doing some actual parenting) and then, years later, deride those kids for being handed participation trophies.
  4. https://www.fieldgulls.com/platform/amp/2023/3/7/23629141/seattle-seahawks-details-geno-smith-incentive-contract-extension-2023-deal-free-agency-quarterback Really a 3 year, $75M contract with $30M in incentives. $40M in guarantees. That seems a lot more like it. See?
  5. Actually no team can talk to a tagged player until the league year starts, which is on 3/15. Prior to that the player would need permission from the team. As for collision, it certainly seems so. In a world where Geno Smith gets 3/$105M and Daniel Jones gets 4/$160M, you’d think a team would want to have a discussion with Lamar just to put an offer on the table. Just because he’s demanding a fully guaranteed contract from the Ravens doesn’t mean he won’t take the best deal at the end of the day.
  6. I would have thought so. I’m stunned they used the non-exclusive franchise tag. A mid to late 1st round pick this year and one next is not great value. I hope the Giants go after him. They have the 24th pick.
  7. Every team is different every year. KC had to figure out how to win without Hill, but they wouldn’t have won their SB three seasons ago without him. They wouldn’t have won this last one without Clark. That doesn’t mean that they won’t be able to find a way to win without him on next year’s team.
  8. “Could earn up to $52M in the first calendar year.” The word “could” tells me there are incentives included in that total. I will wait to see the details before I form my opinion.
  9. Oops. You are correct. I had his trade date mixed up with it. Deleted.
  10. The contract details will be interesting to see. I wonder how much of the $105M is incentive based?
  11. Yup. I was speaking to the realities of the business side of the NFL. Cold blooded move. Of course we knew KC had the wherewithal to operate that way after the Tyreek trade.
  12. That’s rough. I don’t think KC makes it to the SB without Clark. He was huge in the Cincy game.
  13. I saw an analysis of Dupree’s performance when TEN signed him. He typically got his sacks late. He worked hard and kept at it on plays. So sometimes that paid off on coverage sacks or getting a sack when a QB got flushed. But he was not good at getting to the QB quickly. Hard pass.
  14. That would not help because in a trade the dead cap is almost always from money that has already been paid to a player. A team would have to recoup money from the player to get the dead cap off of their books - and good luck with that. The Diggs contract is interesting though. He was given a $21.5M signing bonus last year. If traded the remaining $17.2M would hit as dead cap. He also has a fully guaranteed option bonus of $16M due between 3/15/23 & 3/21/23. His salary and bonuses are about $8.4M this season. If traded before the option bonus is paid the Bills would get hit with $17.2M in dead cap and have a net loss of $8.8M in cap space. After the option bonus is paid you’d add $16M to both numbers, which means $33.2M in dead cap and $24.8M net loss of cap space. While it would not be a great situation, he is tradeable prior to the option payment. After, not at all.
  15. https://theathletic.com/4277824/2023/03/06/ravens-lamar-jackson-franchise-tag-free-agency/?amp=1 https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/baltimore-ravens/cap/ Good article on the whole Ravens situation. I also linked their cap numbers from Spotrac because the article only talks in general terms. The big take away is that the difference between the non-exclusive and exclusive franchise tags for Lamar is about $13 million ($32M & $45M). They’ve got $25M in space now and they could get to $32M with only a little pain, but getting to $45M will cut a lot deeper. They are going to lose some good players if they have to do that.
  16. I think Al Holcomb was brought in to help McDermott with the defense. Notably this was done BEFORE Frazier left the building. That’s one of the reasons I am of the belief that Frazier was fired (in the nicest possible way). If he had a year left on his contract the Bills would pay him out and he’d have to keep quiet as part of that agreement. That’s standard practice. So I doubt we will hear from him publicly until next offseason when he will be interviewing for jobs with other teams.
  17. I have no advice to give, but I hope that you and your family have a blast! Please tell us all about it.
  18. Why hello there Miss Cow. Let me tell you what I’m going to have for dinner: veal parmesan washed down with a nice big glass of milk. The milk I’m gonna drink is the food you made for your baby. The parmesan is a cheese made out of another baby cows food. It’s a delicious cheese that requires rennet to make. Rennet is the collection of enzymes found in the stomachs of ruminant animals - like cows and goats. But don’t worry about your baby not having any food. She won’t need it because veal IS your baby! I’ve eaten all of that. Heck, I had Parmesan cheese today. But it’s kinda messed up.
  19. You’re not wrong. I (really) love cheese. I love ice cream. I like my coffee with 1/2 & 1/2. Fresh whipped cream is delicious. But I find cow milk straight up pretty gross. I much prefer alternatives like oat or soy milk for drinking or with cereal.
  20. This draft looks shallow at the top. By the middle of the first I think more teams will be looking to move back for picks than up for a player. So we might get a bit of a deal. You have a valid point though. Do we really want to move up from 27 in this draft? No, not really. But I also don’t like the thought of sitting at 27 with how I think the draft will likely shake out. We’d probably be one of the teams looking to move back - and at that point I’d probably prefer that. So the way I look at the situation is like this. I see Addison and JSN as first round prospects. I’d give up 27 and 59 for one of them. That should get us up to around pick 16. JSN is a perfect fit here IMO. The alternative is to draft two second round level prospects at 27 and 59. I’d rather have the prospect I think can be a real difference maker on our offense.
  21. I think that using 2 TE sets would be great, especially if we aren’t in a spot to draft a quality slot WR prospect. Regardless I hope we get more talent at the position and Dorsey embraces true 2 TE sets. It could really help the run game too.
  22. WR is my preference, but that depends on who’s there. I’d be happy to see the Bills move up for one (Addison, JSN) as long as they didn’t go crazy on trade compensation.
  23. LT - Dion Dawkins LG - Ryan Bates C - Mitch Morse, Luke Wypler, Ohio State, 3rd round, heir apparent to MM at C, immediate competition for Bates at LG RG - Nate Davis, FA-Titans, 26 years old, 4 years, $30M total ($7.5M AAV) RT - Competition between Spencer Brown and Jermaine Eluemunor, FA-Raiders, 28 years old, 2 years, $8M ($4M AAV), winner starts, backup is the swing tackle I’d look to do something like this. Reasonable spending, good competition and depth, succession planning at C.
