I think that this is the best we can reasonably hope for.

Did you actually read my post? That literally is the reason I said it is unlikely a realistic option. Still, if I were the owner then I’d have a good read on Brady and would have a good opinion on whether he’d be up to it. Still, it’s a very tall task. Ofc we already know exactly what will go wrong if we stick with McDermott. So there’s that.

I agree. I assumed I couldn't go back in time because if that is part of this exercize I'd have made the change a long time ago.
-
My only decision is whether I'd wait until the off-season to make a change at HC. I think today would be better as it would give the team a chance to win this season, but McDermott has gotten rid of every coordinator with the experience to become interim HC. If I thought that Joe Brady was up to it I'd pull the trigger now, but I doubt that is the case. So it is likely I'd have to wait until the offseason to find my new HC. I'd let him decide what to do at GM.

Lots of quality answers here already, but I have to add something more broad. Everyone talks about how the Bills could not overcome adversity last season and just ran out of gas. I've thought that was a cop out since I started hearing it. It's a nice, face saving narrative that protects McDermott by blaming circumstances. But there have been many teams that have had severe adversity. Some of those teams have folded, while others have circled the wagons and come together as a team to overcome their situations. A select few of those have won it all. We simply didn't have the leadership to do so. I don't think that this team truly believes that McDermott can get them to a championship and it shows, especially in the post season when we play true SB worthy teams. Under McDermott we have yet to beat a single team in the playoffs that is capable of winning it all. The players have known that for a long time even if Diggs is the only one that has publicly spoken up at all. Here's hoping the Pegulas get it right this offseason.

I thought it was an incomplete pass too. I’m not by any stretch defending the zebras’ overall performance today (and I’m not one to B word about bad calls), but I think they got this one right.

When we kicked the FG in OT I thought that realistically our best possible outcome was a tie. There was of course a small chance that we would get a turnover, but an Iggles FG or TD was far more likely. If they got a FG there wasn’t going to be any time left to score again, so a tie.

I think you have to judge a GM by the quality of the process at least as much as their results. Beane has certainly built a team capable of winning it all. He has no sway over the coaches or game day decisions. But it’s really a moot point. (Or a moo point if you’re a Friends fan.) Find your head coach and let them decide what they want to do at GM.

At this point everyone should recognize that every season under McDermott is a lost season. If I’m being honest, after his massive choke in the 13 seconds debacle there was no real hope of better than what we’ve seen since then. The sooner we move on, the sooner we find a HC that can win it all. No guarantees we do, but there’s no chance if we don’t.

McDermott sure put the Iggles kicker into position to be successful with that TO. Instead of having to rush on a sloppy field he got to take his time and set up. Ridiculous. My wife and even my 18 yo daughter recognized how dumb it was.

Stadium Construction Discussion (No PSL/Seat selection posts)
BarleyNY replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m fairly certain that New Era doesn’t have one anymore. I was at a game this season in a suite. It was through my wife with a company in the IT world that is doing business with her. We seemed to be the token business related attendees to keep it an allowable expense. I was talking to the owner and he said he didn’t think they were going to have one in the new stadium as they expected the yearly fees to be in the $250k-$350k range. That’s just to have the rights to use the suite. Tickets and food are extra. -
I like that we get the Iggles with them coming off a short week after a big game against KC. And I really like getting KC coming off of our bye. If the Bills are going to get back in it, these are the statement games to make it happen.

I’m not sure improved stats are the best indicator as I think that would mostly come from a better supporting cast, not improvement beyond the best we’ve seen from him. That said, he could become more consistent, especially when defenses test his patience. That’s his avenue for improvement IMO.
-
Two back surgeries to deal with an impinged nerve. IMO he should take his cash for this year and work on getting his body right for next season.
-
That’s a great question. I’ll have to look when I have time.
-
The best fix would include simplifying the rules, not continually making them more complex. That would help, but there will always be borderline calls that will upset one fan base or the other.
-
I understand all that. I thought it was telling when I heard the quotes for exactly those reasons. He basically said that he didn’t disagree with Canada’s calls and then made it very clear that they were Canada’s calls and Canada’s calls alone.

John Warrow gets "corrected" by McDermott
BarleyNY replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. But McDermott seemed unnecessarily dickish to Warrow in his response. Judging by the responses here that seems to play well with many Bills fans too. -
The weird thing is Tomlin just defended the play calling on the final “drive” against the Browns where every play was a pass. He said that he had no problem with the play calls, but also made it clear that they were Canada’s by saying he did not intervene. I guess that was some BS and they were the final straw.
-
I don’t see it going away nor do I think it should. It’s not a dangerous play relative to other football plays. Philly runs it with ease in part because they have an excellent OL and in part because their QB squats 600 pounds.
-
I agree. While I can find fault with the Bills putting themselves into a position where they needed to make a move like signing Von Miller, I think it was the move they needed to make at the time. Taking the chance on him made sense considering where they were at the time.
-
The real question is how far back Miller can get. My hope was that he would be back close to his former self just prior to the playoffs. I thought that was what was most important - and a reasonable time frame. But the longer this drags on, the more concerning the situation is. And I said “my hope” because at his age there is no guarantee that he makes it back close to his former self or that it happens this season.

Smaller LBers are becoming the norm in the NFL. It is one reason that the run game is making a relative resurgence. I would argue that we are already seeing premiums on DTs that can keep those smaller LBs clean.
-
Agreed. Every time someone complains about the Bills’ injuries I ask them if they’d rather be dealing with what the Browns, Jets, Bengals or Colts are. That’s 1/4 of the AFC without their starting QB.
