True, except that clause is standard in HC contracts. -

There have been players' coaches that have had success, but you've got a point about Rex not holding his players accountable and failing to instill the necessary discipline in them. Belichick has his players' backs 100% and he treats them all the same. As long as they follow his rules and do their jobs, he takes care of them. If they get out of line or put themselves above the team, he puts them in line or sends them on their way. Rex just let the players do as they pleased - including actions that hurt the team - with no repercussions. -
could the Bills trade Tyrod Taylor?
BarleyNY replied to swnybillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Bills will get a comp pick if they don't sign a qualifying FA, which is nice. Good call on that. No way any team picks up his contract though. -

Teams cut overcompensated assets all the time. Tyrod will be cut for this reason. -

Zero chance of trading Tyrod. No team will take him with that contract even if draft compensation is negligible. -
Tyrod Taylor - pick up the option

The fact that they're sitting Taylor is proof that they aren't picking up his option. I give Whaley credit for doing this. -
Tyrod Taylor - pick up the option
BarleyNY replied to re enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nope. And nope. Again, Vick was never a great QB, but Taylor isn't as good as Vick was. And again, it really isn't all that close. And please don't call Taylor accurate. He has a nice sideline deep ball he throws with accuracy, but he's not accurate anywhere else on the field. -

No, he's not. And it's not that close. And it's not like Vick was even a great QB. -
Do you think the Rex timing will backfire at all?
BarleyNY replied to Alphadawg7's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suspect that Rex wanted to win and that meant playing Taylor. The Pegulas and/or Whaley most certainly wanted to protect themselves from a Taylor injury and the financial burden that could mean. They also probably don't mind an improved draft position. That means benching Taylor. In fact, that means making him inactive for this last game. My bet is that this was the problem. Rex was looking for a win at the potential expense of the Bills future. The Bills were worried about their future, not Rex's. No way does that have a negative impact on our next HC hire. -
I'd tend to agree with you, but I hold out hope for one thing. That is that I hope Whaley was against the Ryan hiring and that he was asked to tailor his draft and FA acquisitions to Rex's wants. I certainly do not think that a certainty, but I hope he made some poor/questionable decisions due to being told to follow directions from Rex. I'd be very much behind him if I learned he was against the Rex hire, it it was forced on him - along with some other decisions.

Not a bad way to go next season. For this season we're looking at a bridge QB and a day one or two draft pick.

I'm giving Gundy the benefit of doubt here. I'm assuming this thread was a joke.

You're right. Taylor hit Clay in the end zone on 4th down and 6 from the 7 for the TD. That put the Bills up by 3. I remembered that the Bills went up by 3, but was wrong about how. I'll revise my previous post.

Tyrod Taylor - pick up the option
BarleyNY replied to re enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You don't know what you're talking about. Vick was not a great QB, but his prime was about 8-10 years long and he was way better than Taylor at passing and rushing. Vick had over 1k rushing yards one season and 900 another. Seriously, you should educate yourself so you aren't so laughable and so you don't have to use so many ghost accounts. -
I can't imagine why you think he's grown, or how. If he's auditioning for anything, it's a shot at making another roster.

They were down by 4. It was 3rd down and three from the four. Tyrod went out at the 7 for a 3 yard loss. Trying to win the game at that point means running as much time off the clock as possible. All he had to do was stay in bounds if he couldn't get to the 1. It was a bad mistake that I explained it to my son when it happened. I told him that Taylor should have stayed in bounds and that he just saved Miami 24 seconds. If that extra time lets Miami score and the Bills lose the game, then the loss is on him. And that's how it worked out.

Can the Bills Decline the Option and Then Franchise Tyrod?
BarleyNY replied to a topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. And I wouldn't hit him with the tag even if we could. But I don't think it was a terrible contract by Whaley. He paid Taylor a little more this season to get his extension in place, as a sign of good faith for his progress to that point and to show the rest of the team that the FO supported him. If Tyrod was worth a franchise tag, then he'd be worth the extension. He's not. He didn't develop and he's not going to. It's time to move on because even keeping him on as a bridge or back up won't work. Too many problems come with trying to do that with a former starter. It's over for him here. I wish him well in his future endeavors. -
1:32 left in regulation. Miami had used their last time out the play before. Tyrod went OOB at the Phins 7. Carp kicked a FG on next play. Taylor's failure to stay in bounds almost certainly cost the Bills the game. Miami had 1:20 left in the game after FG, KO and return. Had he done his job on that play, then the Phish would've only had 0:56 to score. They kicked the game tying FG with :06 left.
-
The game might matter in a big way. Taylor's contract bonus next season is guaranteed for injury so if he had a bad one and couldn't pass a physical before his bonus date, then the Bills would have been on the hook for about $30M. No sense in risking that.

If Cowher is smart enough to coach an NFL team, then he's smart enough not to coach an NFL team. -
Tyrod Taylor - pick up the option
BarleyNY replied to re enlightener's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Telling us to just look at base salary is either intentionally misleading or incredibly stupid. It's $40.5M deal over 2 seasons. 2. I'm okay with moving on from any QB who clearly isn't the answer, especially at $20M+ a season. Taylor falls into that category. In the likely event that a potential FQB can't be signed in FA, then a similar talent at QB can be found more cheaply and a QB with potential can be drafted. 3. That is really a stretch. A quality QB would be helping this offense with a much better passing attack. Taylor does help a McCoy-led #1 ranked rushing attack, but his help in the passing game isn't up to par with what a quality playoff team needs. And his total contributions don't add up to what he is under contract for starting next season. No, it's not my money, but there is a salary cap. Overpaying Taylor wastes money that could be better utilized elsewhere. -
Starting AFC Playoff Quarterbacks!!!

Yup. Or doing most anything. Gotta pick your shots better than that. Osweiler's deal with Houston is a good example of a team reaching for a mirage. -

Couple more wins with a good coach. The Bills have some good talent overall, but still need a quality QB. A better coach and QB and the Bills could be quite good. But those are two things that are very difficult to acquire.
