  1. As a blocker this past season he wasn’t the total disaster he was in college, but he was still poor overall. The progress is encouraging, but he has a long way to go. I’m rooting for his continued improvement. If he can become an even average blocker, then he will be a fantastic, complete TE1.
  2. The more run-heavy offense the Bills ran under Brady will make that tough unless Kincaid learns to block. 11 with Kincaid isn’t all that great against the blitz either. He’s an excellent receiver, but he belongs in the slot.
  3. That’s exactly what happened this season when he broke his wrist. i’m bringing it up in a joking way, but mainly my point is that it impacted him greatly this season - especially when he tried to play through it. I said it before and I’ll say it again now, the tight end market is crazy. At the time I thought it was a slight overpay, but nothing to get the pitchforks out over.
  4. They have to sign at least one WR in FA. It can be a cheaper, aging vet or a player on a prove it deal, but it can’t be nothing.
  5. I don’t think that they are among the“worst at cap management”. Few teams are truly bad at that, though some make poor decisions due to trying to keep their jobs in the short term. This cap situation was planned. I’ve mentioned this before, but the contracts and ages of players point to a planned reset of the roster next off-season, give or take a season. They built a roster that they thought could win it all and wanted to keep it together up until many of the key players (not named Josh Allen) would be at the end of their useful careers. Injuries to Von Miller and Tre White have hurt the team badly and may move the reset up to this off-season. For the record, this is not my preferred methodology but I am willing to see how it is managed. edited to add: I believe that one of the contributing factors to the Bills going the route they did - especially signing Von Miller - was due to the new stadium deal. They certainly pushed this roster to a SB caliber one. The timing of the Von Miller signing was after the disappointment of 13 seconds. It certainly reinvigorated the fan base and stoked the frenzy to white hot levels. It’s not a coincidence that it happened during the final funding push for the stadium. Obviously that is something that would have been directed by the Pegulas.
  6. Yep. If the Bills had extended him prior to his contract voiding, then the structure would have remained in place until his contract ended. So there would have been some temporary relief to offset his new deal. But it voided already so there’s nothing we can do retroactively.
  7. Some great ones so far: Firefly, Brisco County Jr and News Radio were big favorites of mine. (RIP Phil). I’ll add an obscure one: Doctor Doctor, the one from 1989 that only ran 3 seasons. It is still a one of the funniest shows I have ever seen.
  8. I remember that movie from when I was very young. David Carradine was in it. I remember that because I was a huge Kung Fu* fan too. *reference also applicable to the Office Space thread
  9. That’s a good point. I hadn’t considered that, but that’s exactly what it was about.
  10. One of my favorites as well I had a red Swingline stapler. My freaking kids destroyed it I literally know what “PC load letter” means because of that film
  11. Washington is under new ownership. Just because it was a disaster under Dan Snyder doesn’t have anything to do with Josh Harris and the people he has brought in. The dead cap that would hit Washington’s cap would be due to money that they already paid him. Every dollar that the Bills would pay him would hit their cap. That would be $18.5M in 2024 and $18M in 2025 - unless they renegotiated his contract with him.
  12. Washington’s #1 priority should be to ensure their new QB has the supporting cast around him to be successful. You don’t trade his best WR away. Also it’s worth noting that McLauren is due $18.5M in new money this season. That is the cap hit that a team trading for him would have to take (unless they convince Washington to pay some of it and then trade him). See below. How would he walk? He’s under contract through 2025 and he’s not giving up $18.5M this season or $18M next. Spotrac
  13. McLauren’s contract runs through 2025. It also has 2026 void year. Why would Washington trade him? He’s their best WR, they’re taking a QB #2 overall and they have the most cap space in the league. It would make zero sense from their side. Great player and I’d love to have him here if he were to become available. I just don’t know why he would be.
  14. I agree with your assessment of McLauren. While he’d be a great addition here I don’t see why Washington would trade him. Why would they trade away their best WR the same offseason they draft a QB with the second overall pick? They’ve currently got the most cap space in the league to boot. Makes no sense from their POV.
  15. That’s fair, but Baker would allow them to take Marvin Harrison Jr. I would not be a fan of that either. I haven’t done much homework on the QBs this season so I can’t speak to what they’d be getting at 3. I do know that, in general, even QBs picked in the top 3 are far from a sure thing. Baker and MHJ would immediately give NE a very good chance at splitting games against the Bills (not that they didn’t with Mac Jones last season), but I get your point that if they find a true FQB it would be a bigger long term problem.
  16. It depends on how long they want to tie themselves to him. He’s not going anywhere without guaranteed money tying him to a team for at least two years. Tagging him could be cheaper overall.
  17. This leak could be from the Bucs and aimed at getting Winfield Jr signed to an extension due to the threat of the tag. Once he signs they can tag Baker if needed.
  18. It’s worse than that if Baker goes to an AFCE team. He’s streaky. If he’s on, it can be a problem. Odds are he would be “on” in one of the two games we’d play him every year. I wonder if he’d go to the Steelers? The AFCN would be even more stacked. I think this is likely - and I would prefer it this way.
  19. Agreed. I’ve thought the same regarding the early draft picks. As for Beane vs McDermott, I believe that McDermott is pulling the strings. It fits with the timing of the hired, but without knowing that for certain it’s impossible for me to assign responsibility. Lastly, I am certain that getting the new stadium deal led to some moves (Von Miller for one) and that selling PSLs and suites in the new venue will heavily influence some of the decisions made in the next few seasons.
  20. For two years now I’ve said that the target for a roster reset of expensive vets was next off-season, give or take one season due to circumstances. It’s a matter of how those contracts are structured and how old the players are. I think the Von Miller and Tre White injuries should move it up to this off-season, but I don’t know if they will do it. I’ve no idea how warm McDermott and/or bean think their seats are - and I stress that their perceptions of this are far more important than the reality. How they proceed will tell us a lot.
  21. All of the future years cap hit accelerate to the current season when the contract voids. All of Floyd’s remaining dead money hits in 2024. The reason for using multiple void years is to push more of the hit out to the following season.
  22. That’s the general rule, but Tre has a roster bonus due. If the Bills decline to pay him that roster bonus, then he immediately becomes a FA. Whether or not he can pass a physical does not matter.
  23. Some perspective on this. The Bills are middle of the pack in dead money with $12.2M. While I wouldn’t say that everything is rosy, dead money is really not a problem today. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap-space Edited to add: Dead cap numbers obviously will change in the coming weeks - and they may get bad - but if they do it won’t be because of Floyd’s contract.
  24. The alternative would have been to not sign Floyd as well as one or two players.
