First, thanks for sharing what you heard and starting a thread on a worthwhile topic (which are pretty rare right now). Last year I caught a related tidbit about the Browns as one anonymous player noted that there was more coaching done at the first practice under Hue Jackson than there had been by the previous 3 coaching regimes combined. That says a lot about why they have been so bad for so long. I really hope McD and his staff are the right kind of coaches and do well here.

The original post, number 3 specifically discusses a draft day trade of Taylor. That's why I responded to that in number 3 of my post. Taylor isn't interested in renegotiating with the Bills because he'd rather be able to negotiate with all 32 teams instead of just 1 if the Bills don't pick up his option. Besides, there's always the chance that they'll pick it up anyway.

The trade window opens for the trade to actually happen when the new league year starts, but teams can negotiate trade parameters for players that will be under contract prior to that. The only snag is that it is a moot point since no other team will take on Taylor's contract.

I'm guessing it's one thread for every poster who has a question or theory about the QB situation, but doesn't bother to look at any existing thread.

I was specifically addressing the OPs scenario of TT being traded during the draft. And I also noted that no team is interested in TT with his current contract.

1) No team will trade for Taylor with his existing contract. 2) Dallas may get something for Romo, but will likely end up having to take a lesser pick or outright release him. They sure aren't getting a 2nd rounder for him at this point. His salary and injury history make him a huge risk. I'd look elsewhere. 3) Whaley wanted to see what they had in Jones and he wanted Taylor on the bench where he couldn't get injured. Don't read more into the situation than that. I do agree that they need to keep bringing him along. 4) WR should absolutely be in play at 10. 5) Agree. Finding a RT in FA is a necessity. It's a very weak draft for offensive tackles. 6) It'll be interesting to see what McD does with this defense. Retaining or replacing Gilmore is likely very important. 7) Health is always important, but building depth helps weather injuries. Finding a franchise caliber QB sure helps too. I don't think it should be Romo or Taylor, but they sure need to try to find one.

Correct. Option bonus of $15.5M would add to his dead cap of $2.85M ($18.35M total) if he was traded after the bonus was paid, but prior to season. It'd be pretty ridiculous to pay him an extra $15.5M just to trade him. Not gonna happen.

I agree. I'm sure the issue for the Bills isn't cap allocation. That's just Taylor's agent playing the game. If the Bills were sold on Taylor being their guy for 3+ seasons, then it's a decent contract. If he's there 1-2 seasons, then it's terrible. Whomever takes Mahomes needs to bring him along slowly. He shouldn't see the field for at least a year. From what I'm hearing at the moment he's more highly thought of by front office personnel than by most media people. Look for him to be a "late riser" on draft boards as the media catches up. He probably won't be there for the Bills in the second round. He would likely require a move up.

He could be designated a June 1st cut and the Bills would be hit with cap hits of $2.45M in 2017 and 2018. If he's kept for 2017 and released before 2018, he'd have hits of $6.625M in '17 and $2.45 in '18. If he plays out his deal his hits would be $6.625M in '17 and $6.825M in '18. Those are some big numbers. He's worth it if he can stay healthy, but he's also a huge injury risk. And it doesn't help that he's about all we've got at safety. Honestly I think this comes down to two things: 1) what the doctors say and 2) whether or not the Bills are rebuilding or are pushing for the playoffs in 2017. If they are in rebuild mode, then they should release him. If they're pushing, then they are probably better off taking the chance with him for at least 2017. Yeah, I agree. As a fellow human being I hope he either retires on his own or gets retired by the league before (further?) permanent damage gets done to his brain.

McCown is as stellar a human being as you're going to find. He holds the ball way too long though. Ideally he will be a back up who is helping to groom a young QB. I hope he enjoys his remaining time in the NFL.

Honestly, your post deserves no better than my initial response. Sure, I could waste my time pointing out the multitude of factual and conclusive errors that poorly thought out bit of blind homerism, but you're not interested in that. Vick was a considerably better QB than TT in almost every facet of his game. He wasn't a HOFer by any stretch, but TT isn't in his league. I'll leave it there.
