NFL Exec's on each team's weakness
BarleyNY replied to BuffaloHokie13's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1. Disagree. Both are very important and a deep threat can immeasurably help the short passing game. That said, I absolutely agree with the Sammy move. Zay Jones has speed and can fill that role. 2. The OL and QB have to both do their jobs. The OL has to give the QB time and the QB has to get the ball out. -

Ragland traded to KC for 4th round 2019 pick

Got something for a player that doesn't fit the current scheme and wouldn't contribute to the team. Better for him and better for us. Best of luck to him. -
Dareus sent home for violating a team rule
BarleyNY replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Probably just immature and seeing what he can get away with. Whether or not he now gets in line will tell us whether or not there's a defiance issue. -
Dareus sent home for violating a team rule
BarleyNY replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We know that every other player knew when to be at the field for the game. This was Dareus being Dareus. It's not like it should be a surprise at this point. Let's hope he now realizes that he has to get in line. If not, he's going to have to deal with the consequences. -
NFL suspends Vontaze Burfict 5 games (update: 3 games)
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Benched in college for committing too many personal fouls, tested positive for pot at Combine, fined in 2013 for defenseless receiver hit and going after a player's groin (same game, GB), fined in 2014 for twisting the ankles of Newton and Olsen (Carolina) and the above mentioned Brown incident in 2015 along with going after Big Ben's ankle in that same playoff game against the Steelers. -
Correct.

Cap wise could a Dareus/Osweiler trade be worked out?
BarleyNY replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Short answer: If the Browns ate the majority of BO's contract, then it's feasible from a cap standpoint. I'm just not sure why you'd want BO on the team. He's terrible. -
If Hundley is worth having, then GB isn't moving him now. They've got nothing else behind Rodgers and even a decent backup QB could mean the difference between just making or just missing the playoffs if Rodgers misses a few weeks. I can't see them doing that for less than premium value and there's no reason to give that up for him at this point. He's signed through next season so GB wouldn't be in a hurry to get some value for him, especially this close to the season starting.

Bills signed Eric Wood to two year extension
BarleyNY replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks, but there are still more details to come. I'm looking to see how much of his 2017 salary got converted to the signing and roster bonuses paid this week, what the effective 2 season payout is and how much of the new money is non-guaranteed 2019 compensation. I'd expect a roster bonus to be due in 2019 as well. Often the first leaks of a new contract are from the agent and show the deal in the most positive light. It's good marketing for the agent. -
Bills signed Eric Wood to two year extension
BarleyNY replied to Kelly the Dog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Seems like they just paid a $6M-$6.5M per year OC $8M a year for 2018 and 2019 with a lot of guarantees, but it might not be that bad. Wood is a good player and it's probably best to have him locked up beyond this season so I'm happy there. The contract details aren't out yet, but my best guess is that the effective length is through 2018 with 2019 as more of an option year for the team. Guarantees likely just cover compensation for this season and most of next. The 2019 salary could be ballooning the numbers too. I'm going to wait and see. -

Dareus sent home for violating a team rule

Financial penalties still can hurt even someone like Dareus. Team fines or suspensions can hurt badly. Notably, he would not get paid for games he is suspended for and the amount lost would be refunded to the team's cap space. He's at about $610k salary per game. That would have to hurt, especially if it is an escalating punishment. He just got a 1 game violation (although no financial penalty since it was a preseason game). Next might be 2 games for $1.22M, etc. -
It'd be stupid to trade for Adams without negotiating a LTD so you'd have to consider the possibility that the Bills would somehow acquire a FQB. Not bothering to get quality WRs on the team until you find a FQB doesn't seem to be much of a strategy. Not that I'm saying it he Bills should trade Shady. They shouldn't unless a team gets stupid.

I find it very plausible that the Packers offered Adams and a fourth round pick for Shady. I also find it incredibly likely that the Bills said no to it.

Hopes vs expectations for tonight?
BarleyNY replied to EmotionallyUnstable's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Taylor finds a rhythm and his timing and proceeds to hit receivers with accuracy. Or that Peterman does. If we got nothing more than that I'd be ecstatic. -
Last season was a genuine tank for the Browns. Most seasons before that they were actually trying. They were a case study in how not to draft up until this most recent regime. Meddling by the team owner, unnecessarily risky high picks and going off board to take players that coaches wanted rather than following the hard work of the scouts has been the norm for them since '99. The new regime has been impressive in their patience and willingness to hold true to their scouting and analytics. They've got a long way to go (obviously), but they should give Browns fans real hope in the long term.

If he ordered them "wit wiz" then he's dead to me.
-
Agree with those that said he's not a fit for a variety of reasons.
-
He's getting the job now because Osweiler and Kessler have been so bad. He's not ready, but is still their best option despite that.

Tyrod Taylor is one of the Bills two biggest stars? -
Out of the 2016 draft they got the following:- #1 WR - #3 WR - #4 WR - starting RT - #2 TE - backup QB - starting DE - rotational DE/DT - starting MLB - starting SLB via trade - starting CB via trade - starting S - plus additional picks in the 2017 and 2018 drafts, one of which was used to take Kizer and another Peppers

Complete the tank, McBean. Do it.

Hughes is signed through 2019 and he certainly seems to be playing up to his contract so I'm not sure what all the "should we re-sign him or not" discussion is about. He would be 32 years old when his deal ends or we could give him a short extension after 2018 if he's still playing well. Seems pretty team friendly with his roster bonuses so I don't know why anyone would want to change anything now.
