  1. No. If a team develops a minority that another team hires as their GM or HC, then the team that they were hired away from gets two 3rd round comp picks. One each in two consecutive years. The team that hires the person does not get any picks for it. Not sure. Maybe the league’s formula changed? OTC had been nailing all of the comp picks for years. They seemed to have it all dialed in. I’m shocked.
  2. I could not disagree more. The teams that actually develop the minority coaches and GMs and help them become quality performers are the ones that should be rewarded.
  3. No. There is no set maximum for each round. This is disappointing.
  4. I know that they’ve touted their training and recovery facilities and program in the past. Those are supposed to be quite good. I think the main thing that they are doing now is getting younger.
  5. That depends on the specific contract language, which we obviously don’t have. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that an attempt to void guarantees was at least going to be a fight. And probably a bad look for the org. So Beane absolutely did the right thing here. My point was that this wasn’t some pure act of kindness on Miller’s part. He was still looking out for himself.
  6. But it certainly could have happened before the season began and his salary was paid. And teams can go after some signing bonus money too. Also we don’t know what clauses related to off the field incidents are in the contract. It’s not like Von hasn’t had those before. I’m sure Beane was smart enough to cover his butt on a deal this big with a guy how has had some issues in the past.
  7. The one very large point that most people are missing is that the Bills may have been able to void the guarantees in Miller’s contract due to his off the field issues. That would have allowed them to cut him with no additional money owed. Part of the negotiation was obviously to avoid that fight.
  8. The team will need at least that much cap space after 6/1 for extensions, the transition to the 53 man roster, practice squad and in season moves.
  9. Neither Von nor the Bills did the other a favor. Von got about $2.5M more guaranteed than he already had coming to him plus a bunch more possible with incentives. Had he not agreed to that deal he’d have been cut. He’d have received the guaranteed portion of his salary and then signed a deal somewhere else. That deal would have a low base (around that same $2.5M) plus incentives. There seems to be a lot of DEs happy to sign one year deals later in the off-season. I’d be surprised if we don’t sign one.
  10. There are a lot of sports media people who take money to post what teams, agents or players want them to say. Thomas knows the game the Saints are playing. You wish
  11. At this point anything we can get out of Elam is a bonus. The team has to proceed as if he will provide nothing though.
  12. agreed. no word on guarantees yet.
  13. The concern is more that it’s a big enough contract that it means he will be a starter. No bueno. He was not close to starting caliber last season. I don’t know why they’d go this route, unless the incentives are large and one of them is % of snaps. That would mean he’s getting back up money if he’s a back up and starter money if he plays a lot. I hope that is what is happening.
  14. Some of us believed you. It’s just that we were hoping you were wrong.
  15. OTC is the site NFL teams use to look at info from other teams. Spotrac has better usability for some stuff, but OTC has better info and a very good calculator for cuts/restructures/etc. If there’s ever a discrepancy you can bet OTC has the correct info.
  16. OTC shows that he had $6.435M guaranteed for this season. So to move a bunch of his compensation into incentives the Bills upped the guaranteed money to $8.855M and kept him on the roster. If the Bills had cut him he’d have gotten his $6.435M and then signed a contract with a low guarantee and high incentives. So basically he just signed that with us. And we get the bonus of continuing to spread out the signing bonus we gave him 2 years ago. I’d have preferred to just move on, but this is a fair deal if we think he can get closer to who he used to be. https://overthecap.com/player
  17. The team is waiting on Allen’s restructure because of PR. It would be a lot tougher to blame all these moves on being in salary cap hell if people were to see the numbers after his restructure. It’s a common tactic.
  18. Waiting on the details. Miller didn’t just give up the guaranteed money he had coming to him. I suspect he got a very nice signing bonus as part of this renegotiated contract.
  19. Indeed. It is what it is regardless of how anyone around here feels about it.
  20. I think Denver might want to move on from older vets like Sutton if they’re doing a big roster reset. Just guys that won’t be there when the team is ready to compete again. Open up cap space and get some picks to reset the roster and to help trade up for their next QB.
  21. I think the Bills moved up this vet purge by a season. Likely that was due to Miller and White’s significant injuries. So it could’ve waited a season, but it was coming. And I think it was the prudent move. IMO it also is a vote of confidence for McDermott. You don’t do this and then fire your HC in a year. You have to let him see the rebuild through. So I think he’s here for at least a few more years unless he loses the locker room.
  22. They would not pay for them if they released him without the post 6/1 designation either. I was just clarifying that even though his contract is carried on the books as if he is here until 6/1, the Bills don’t owe him any of that money.
  23. I didn’t think they had much choice. Two seasons in a row lost to injury and no real sense that he’d be back to 100% this season.
  24. Thanks for all you did for the Bills, Tre. It was a pleasure to watch you play.
