Is it inconceivable for the Bills to trade for OBJ?
BarleyNY replied to Tipster19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree except that I don’t think the Bills are there yet. A year from now if we just got through a more successful season (wildcard playoff spot, maybe even a win), Allen has proven himself and it looks to the world that the Bills are trending up, then yes. That’s when you add someone like him. And that’s when someone like him would be interested. Someone mentioned the Raiders. I can’t see him wanting to play on that train wreck. If he does, then I wouldn’t want him. Cleveland is a better bet IF he’s moved. He’s tight with Landry, who is selling him on what is happening there. And he’s making other friends like Mayfield. Of course the same case as above could be made regarding them. -
Bean at his Witchery, Again!

Flacco has zero guaranteed dolllars left on his contract. It did have $44M in guarantees but those have already been paid out. That’s probably what you saw. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/denver-broncos/joe-flacco-4000/ -
Cardinals tweet their support of Right Josh

Are you comparing Fitz last season to what he was in his prime? Maybe you want Andre Reed backnon the Bills next season? Guess what? Fitz was a phenomenal WR who played last season at 35 years old. It’s a testament to his skill and dedication that he’s still playing, but he wouldn’t start on a team with a decent WR corps anymore. -

Fitz was 50th in receiving yards. Say Jones was 63rd. He had 78 more yards. Wow. The Cardinals has 11 offensive linemen play at least 100 snaps and only one - their rookie center played 600. He also got injured. They were a lot worse - and it wasn’t close. -

Not true. Rosen’s OL was the worst in the NFL. His only viable WR was Fitz who isn’t close to what he used to be. Yes, I know that Allen had a poor OL and WR corps, but it wasn’t worse than Rosen’s. -
Bills sign C Spencer Long to 3 year deal
BarleyNY replied to One Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Might just be to lock him up for a bit if he returns to form. If they didn’t give him much in the way of a signing bonus or guaranteed money then the three years are not a problem if they cut him. -
Bills sign C Spencer Long to 3 year deal
BarleyNY replied to One Buffalo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yet another free agent signing gone awry. Spencer Long was always solid on the interior for the Redskins after he was third-round pick back in 2014. So far in New York, however, he’s been disastrous. His 14 pressures allowed are more than he gave up in either of the past two seasons, and his 45.5 run-blocking grade doesn’t look much better. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-2018-nfl-offensive-line-rankings-all-32-teams-units-after-week-9 You have to wonder why he dropped off. Scheme is one reason why. Playing through injury is another. I hope that’s it is one of those and that he’s healthy and a better fit here. It also happens when players stop using PEDs or just get lazy. I’m not insinuating it’s either of those, only that they round out the top reasons for a drop off this early in a career. Here’s hoping we got some help. -
I sign him to this today as insurance. Then I try to find an upgrade when FA starts - or in the draft if that fails. He can pass block so at minimum I know he can keep Allen upright. Still I can’t help but wonder why he isn’t at LG. Seems like it’d be a much better fit for a guy who can pass block way better than he can run block. If he doesn’t sign it then I’m looking elsewhere in FA.

Cuts to add an additional 6 Million
BarleyNY replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
FYI: Minimum cap numbers are calculated with cash spent in that season. You can't look at available cap space or rollover dollars. The Bills will not be in danger of being below the threshold in 2019. -
Anyone get one of these “racist” sweaters ?
BarleyNY replied to Teddy KGB's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Theres great livings to be made by separating stupid people with too damn much money from some of it. I went to a few of these stores when I was in Chicago last year. We went to Louis Vatton because my daughter wanted to look at backpacks. There was zero chance she’d be getting one, but I let her look. The clothes, etc. were nothing special. The largest backpack was not big and the small and medium weren’t even big enough to be functional. Basically the merchandise there were all just uber expensive billboards for their logo. A way for people to show off by telling the world “Hey, look what I can afford!” It was shameful. I felt dirty. On the original subject of the sweater my first two thoughts were that it looked both incredibly stupid and pretty racist. -
Injuries have robbed him of quality play. He used to be good at all facets of TE play, but not great at any single one. He'd have been a perfect TE2, but he is not that player anymore.

My 1st rd pick: OT Greg Little (Ole Miss)

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2814967-the-1-prospect-each-nfl-team-needs-to-grab-in-the-2019-draft#slide0 Brent Sobieski from the Bleacher Report agrees with you. So do I. -
Here’s a recent Spotrac article on players that could make sense for teams to part ways with. Some Bills in there. Definitely some that could help. https://www.spotrac.com/research/nfl/potential-2019-nfl-roster-bubbles-819/

That's what contract guarantees are for. I guess the Dolphins aren't as clueless as I thought. Tanking is exactly what they should do. Now let's wait and see if they have the patience to do it right.
-
That $6.5M guarantee has offsets too. That means that if the Jags cut him and he signs elsewhere then the amount he’s paid in 2019 is deducted from that. Even as a backup he’d make more than $6.5M so there’s no Osweiler type deal to be done here. That only happened because of the salary guarantees in his contract.

BarleyNY replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's almost like the NFL wanted a Los Angeles team in the Super Bowl. -
He had offsets in his contract with the Browns. His salary in Cincy was deducted from the $4.75M the Browns were still paying him. I believe that was it as far as guarantees from the Browns. It had been noted that when the Bengals played the Browns (twice) while he was coaching the Bengals the Browns were paying him way more than the Bengals. Turns out it was money well spent.

Would Cordy Glenn be an option in FA?
BarleyNY replied to STL-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. That would be incredibly important. -
1. You have to really ask yourself what mentoring by McCoy and Clay is really worth. Clay’s injuries have made everything else about him meaningless. It’s too bad. McCoy needs to earn his way with his play. He’s not the mentor you want for young players. 2. Cap space can be carried forward. Don’t spend what you don’t need to spend. No sense overpaying older players on their last year. 3. Maybe McCoy. Maybe. Not Clay. 4. You can’t bank on trading them midseason. There’s a better chance that these players get injured. Plus they’ll take up roster spots. 5. You can’t restructure the last year of a deal without extending the players. Why would they do that? The total cap hit would stay the same anyway. Also we don’t need the space this season. 6. See #1 i appreciate that you don’t want them to just get cut, but Clay is gone. McCoy probably is too.

NFL preparing for another work disruption in 2021??
BarleyNY replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tons of money at stake so it would be little surprise if people want to fight over it. -
Your opinion how the Bills will add to the Roster? (edited)
BarleyNY replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t know what their plan is, but I hope they don’t go crazy unless it’s for an elite player. Overspending on good players should be limited to one or two year deals. A real problem is that they need help at premier positions and getting high quality players at those positions will likely require drafting them. Overpaying for someone like Clowney would be very worthwhile, but that’s a long shot at best. Ultimately finding good fits at reasonable contracts will be most of FA. I expect them to be aggressive in the draft. They’re going to go after their guys. The full rebuild won’t be done this year but they can be a lot better with a solid showing in FA and 2-3 quality players in the draft.
