I sign him to this today as insurance. Then I try to find an upgrade when FA starts - or in the draft if that fails. He can pass block so at minimum I know he can keep Allen upright. Still I can’t help but wonder why he isn’t at LG. Seems like it’d be a much better fit for a guy who can pass block way better than he can run block. If he doesn’t sign it then I’m looking elsewhere in FA.

Cuts to add an additional 6 Million
BarleyNY replied to RPbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
FYI: Minimum cap numbers are calculated with cash spent in that season. You can't look at available cap space or rollover dollars. The Bills will not be in danger of being below the threshold in 2019. -
Anyone get one of these “racist” sweaters ?
BarleyNY replied to Teddy KGB's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Theres great livings to be made by separating stupid people with too damn much money from some of it. I went to a few of these stores when I was in Chicago last year. We went to Louis Vatton because my daughter wanted to look at backpacks. There was zero chance she’d be getting one, but I let her look. The clothes, etc. were nothing special. The largest backpack was not big and the small and medium weren’t even big enough to be functional. Basically the merchandise there were all just uber expensive billboards for their logo. A way for people to show off by telling the world “Hey, look what I can afford!” It was shameful. I felt dirty. On the original subject of the sweater my first two thoughts were that it looked both incredibly stupid and pretty racist. -
Injuries have robbed him of quality play. He used to be good at all facets of TE play, but not great at any single one. He'd have been a perfect TE2, but he is not that player anymore.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2814967-the-1-prospect-each-nfl-team-needs-to-grab-in-the-2019-draft#slide0 Brent Sobieski from the Bleacher Report agrees with you. So do I. -
Here’s a recent Spotrac article on players that could make sense for teams to part ways with. Some Bills in there. Definitely some that could help. https://www.spotrac.com/research/nfl/potential-2019-nfl-roster-bubbles-819/

That's what contract guarantees are for. I guess the Dolphins aren't as clueless as I thought. Tanking is exactly what they should do. Now let's wait and see if they have the patience to do it right.
-
That $6.5M guarantee has offsets too. That means that if the Jags cut him and he signs elsewhere then the amount he’s paid in 2019 is deducted from that. Even as a backup he’d make more than $6.5M so there’s no Osweiler type deal to be done here. That only happened because of the salary guarantees in his contract.

GDT: NFC Championship Game Rams at Saints on FOX
BarleyNY replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's almost like the NFL wanted a Los Angeles team in the Super Bowl. -
He had offsets in his contract with the Browns. His salary in Cincy was deducted from the $4.75M the Browns were still paying him. I believe that was it as far as guarantees from the Browns. It had been noted that when the Bengals played the Browns (twice) while he was coaching the Bengals the Browns were paying him way more than the Bengals. Turns out it was money well spent.

Would Cordy Glenn be an option in FA?
BarleyNY replied to STL-Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. That would be incredibly important. -
1. You have to really ask yourself what mentoring by McCoy and Clay is really worth. Clay’s injuries have made everything else about him meaningless. It’s too bad. McCoy needs to earn his way with his play. He’s not the mentor you want for young players. 2. Cap space can be carried forward. Don’t spend what you don’t need to spend. No sense overpaying older players on their last year. 3. Maybe McCoy. Maybe. Not Clay. 4. You can’t bank on trading them midseason. There’s a better chance that these players get injured. Plus they’ll take up roster spots. 5. You can’t restructure the last year of a deal without extending the players. Why would they do that? The total cap hit would stay the same anyway. Also we don’t need the space this season. 6. See #1 i appreciate that you don’t want them to just get cut, but Clay is gone. McCoy probably is too.

NFL preparing for another work disruption in 2021??
BarleyNY replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tons of money at stake so it would be little surprise if people want to fight over it. -
Your opinion how the Bills will add to the Roster? (edited)
BarleyNY replied to njbuff's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don’t know what their plan is, but I hope they don’t go crazy unless it’s for an elite player. Overspending on good players should be limited to one or two year deals. A real problem is that they need help at premier positions and getting high quality players at those positions will likely require drafting them. Overpaying for someone like Clowney would be very worthwhile, but that’s a long shot at best. Ultimately finding good fits at reasonable contracts will be most of FA. I expect them to be aggressive in the draft. They’re going to go after their guys. The full rebuild won’t be done this year but they can be a lot better with a solid showing in FA and 2-3 quality players in the draft. -

Shaq Lawson 5th year option on the table
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It’s only guaranteed for injury until the start of that season when it becomes fully guaranteed. They can exercise and rescind later if they can’t work out a LTD and don’t think he’s worth it. The injury risk is worth that IMO. -

Cleveland Browns to hire Freddie Kitchens as HC
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Prior to coming to Cleveland last season Bruce Arians has been grooming Kitchens to take over as HC in AZ when he left. So he’s had some exposure to those things. -
Cleveland Browns to hire Freddie Kitchens as HC
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Heard from several people with close ties to the team that they thought Kitchens was the right choice. That has been the case for weeks. Also heard that many players did not want Gregg retained as HC or DC and that they conveyed that to the powers that be in Berea.
