  1. I was thinking maybe it was made from one of those heavy construction paper presentation boards my kids sometimes use for school reports. Disappointing really. I was hoping for a real table and effort. The solo cups were a nice touch though - even if they were all empty.
  2. Estimated Franchise tag for a DT in 2020 is $15.2M. Transition expected to be around $12.4M. https://overthecap.com/franchise-transition-and-rfa-tenders/
  3. I said it when they gave it to him and I’ll say it now: Star’s contract is a travesty. A front loaded 5 year/$50M contract for a NT that doesn’t even require a double team and quit doing his one job - stopping the run - years ago (before we signed him). If the Bills part ways with him after this season he’ll have been paid $26M for two seasons of poor play. That’s absolutely ridiculous. So, yeah, there’s a lot of players that I’d give that contract to before him. At least a case could be made for Phillips being worth it.
  4. 9.5 sacks so far this season. Next best season: 2. The question of what to expect going forward is a huge one. Has he turned the corner or is this season an anomaly (a contract year anomaly no less)? I really don’t know, but I have a strong suspicion that there is a team or two out there that will be willing to pay him like a 10 sack DT. I’d like to retain him, but I don’t think the Bills go there if that’s where his price ends up.
  5. There are 9 teams with a record of 10-4 or better so it seems pretty reasonable.
  6. They got that penalty last time. Obviously it wasn’t hash enough to deter them. The penalty needs to be significantly harsher.
  7. Anyone here notice that we made the playoffs? Old habits die hard I guess. No sense in getting worked up about FAs now anyway. That list is going to change dramatically by March.
  8. You know that’s coming out soon
  9. I’d wager that he misunderstand what TTT is. (It’s time from snap to release for those who don’t know. Sacks and runs are not included.) Lower is usually considered better, but QBs that buy more time with their feet usually are on the higher side. It’s really a meaningless statistic for QBs like Rodgers, Allen and Lamar. It only holds value for QBs in schemes where the ball must come out quickly. Even then that value is limited.
  10. That is totally misleading. Here is the whole chart: http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/tmleaders.asp?range=NFL&rank=232&type=Receiving The Bills have had 20 dropped passes. The average (median) number of dropped passes is 15. So the Bills have about 5 more dropped passes than you’d expect. That’s about one additional dropped pass every three games. Change 5 incompletions to completions on this season’s stat sheet and it’s negligible.
  11. I will gladly take that if Allen plays like Flacco did in the 2013 postseason.
  12. C+/B- is fair I think. Allen did enough to win in a game against a stellar defense where we had a +3 turnover margin. He had a few excellent throws, 10 or so good throws, 3 passes batted down (one of which was probably on Ford) and 10 or so throws that were not good. He had a nice TD run, a short, tough run for a first down and a really good run on 3rd and long that set up a chance to go for it on 4th (which we made on a completion to Brown). The pick was mostly on him - it was a high fastball. Beasley jumped and was fully extended and, sure, he gets paid well so it’d have been nice for him to have managed to pull it in, but it’s got to be a better throw especially if it’s a bullet. The 40 yard completion to Brown was underthrown and Brown made a great play. At first I thought it might’ve been back shoulder throw but watching the replay that should not have been the read. Brown was in front of and slightly outside of the DB while the throw was short and inside. That’s all on Allen. Then he throws a worse ball that Brown had to play defense on followed by one he has one batted down. Then he throws that dime to Kroft in the end zone for a TD. A perfect pass. So that’s Allen. A tough competitor who can wow you on one play and then make you wonder what the hell happened on the next. Or vice versa. If he becomes more consistent the sky really is the limit for him. He started out nicely against the Steelers, but things got really uneven for him after he rushed for the TD. I’m not sure what changed.
  13. A few years ago the phrase “Shut up, Chris!” became a saying in my house. It was said so many times during SNF that it became the go to phrase used when someone said something inane or ridiculously obvious. My kids, now 14 & 16, started that. (No, no one in the house is named Chris.). Sadly, it’s use has waned. It was hilarious.
  14. I still worry about his accuracy, but if this is where he’s at right now then he’s going to get some real time (through his option year) to settle in. And he’s definitely going to get some more help toward that end. A true #1 WR with size and speed, help at OT and probably an upgrade at TE are coming next season. This team can really become scary good.
  15. I did read where a Steelers teammate said that AB has never been the same since that hit.
  16. That was a very fair take. I’ve been extremely frustrated by the utter lack of any success against C1 & C0 and I’ve largely pinned that on Allen. The analysis looks solid - there’s things Allen needs to do better, but he’s doing a lot right and there’s a lot of blame to go around. The rollout against Earl Thomas was really interesting. I remember blaming Allen for that play because he left a clean pocket early and rolled into pressure. I’ll take being wrong there if it means Allen was doing right.
  17. Drop rate is usually calculated as drops/targets. That’s the main part of the difference. Also it looks like the OP tried to figure drops as a percentage of catchable balls, but calculated it as drops/catches instead of drops/(catches+drops).

  19. At this time of year all released players go through waivers.
  20. Yeah. I also think some of the better teams are doing their best to force the game into Josh’s hands. If he can make those teams pay, then the sky’s the limit for the Bills - especially considering our cap situation. It’d be a very sustainable team.
  21. Gotta be honest, I agree with this post from Eric Eager. With better play from Josh we’re Super Bowl contenders. Here’s hoping he steps up.
  22. That would be nice, but Goodell and the league will do everything possible to prevent specifics from becoming public. Two things matter to them: 1) Maintaining their authority. That means when they tell a team to stop doing something, that team obeys. This is where the Cheats could get hammered. It’s why they got hit hard for Spygate and it’s why the Saints got hit so hard for Bountygate. Both teams were told to stop and both kept doing them. That sure seems to be the case here. 2) Maintaining to the public that the league is beyond reproach. A big aspect of this is not allowing dirty laundry to become public - especially anything that could call into question the legitimacy of games. That’s a fine line to walk because they have to hammer teams like the Cheats while selling the public on the idea that the outcomes of games were not impacted - which really defies logic. Of course games were won due to cheating (and not just by the Cheats). So that’s where this sits. I have to think Goodell will come down hard on them if there’s something to this (and it looks like there is), but it might not all be done publicly. If this is Brady’s last season (and I’ve thought that it would be since he reworked his contract) maybe it’ll be Belichick’s too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this swept under the rug if he agreed to retire. His other option might be a big fine and suspension that would hurt his legacy (and pocketbook) as well as the league’s reputation. Toss in the reality of a lost draft pick or two and a big fine and Kraft might be more willing to let it go too if that would be reduced to a modest fine. Maybe that is just wishful thinking, but this is bad PR for the NFL and a slap in the face to Goodell personally. Something is going to be done about it.
  23. It’s worth noting that their previous taping worked best against the less sophisticated teams. I got that from a big ESPN article on it. It kinda makes sense too. Most of the best teams still drop the occasional game to a lesser opponent. Except the Pats didn’t really seem to do that. That extra W a year really helps with home field advantage.
  24. Contrary to what’s typically said, there are stupid questions.
