He’s very accurate and he’s seasoned. He had ice water in his veins in the college playoffs and was the difference in the championship game.

The extra playoff team and game in each conference, for example. But the money will take a jump next season (2021) due to the new revenue split kicking in. The Jags are playing this right. They screwed up a lot, but at this point it’s their best option. They’ve got 3 months to let it play out. I have heard that the Bills have spoken with Higgins and that he hasn’t gotten the kinds of offers he was hoping for. No surprise this offseason. Tons of cheap WR talent to be had in the draft so no need to pay second and third tier FA WRs much. Higgins would be a good pick up at a reasonable price. Perriman too, but I’d think he’d cost more.

They’re fine as of now. People worry about the wrong things with the cap - using it, not using it, blah, blah, blah. Just look to see if they’re using it wisely because cap space only does a team good if it’s used well.

They note that the benefits are not only bigger throwing windows for Allen, but also that it should give him the best possible view of play developing down field. ?

That’s a common myth. First, you have to know what’s being front loaded. Cash or cap. The main benefit of from loading cash (as if usually the case with bigger contracts) is that it is attractive to players. It can help a team attract a free agent or save a few dollars overall on a new contract. The downside is that it makes players difficult cut early in their deals because of the large amount of dead cap. Front loading cap dollars is almost always unwise and it’s very rare. There’s no real upside to it because of carryover. (Cap carryover is where leftover cap space is added to the following season’s cap limit.) It would just take away flexibility. Spreading a signing bonus’ cap hit over several seasons also creates a bit of a discount in terms of cap allocation since the cap goes up every season and the nominal dollar amounts are spread evenly over the contract.

Really might be the most important season for continuity. Due to COVID-19 I’d bet that there’s going to be a lot less practice time than usual.

Probably due to the extra two playoff games. Each team got about $2M more for that. I was expecting 2-4 million more per team in cap space than was allocated, mostly due to that and the previous trajectory of the cap.

Could be that he just wanted to try to win in these last two or so seasons and it was obvious it wasn’t going to happen in NE. I don’t get the Murphy hate at this point. He took a long time to come back from his knee injury. Everyone (pretty much) gave him a pass on that in 2018. Now after the 2019 season, when he finally looked good, many are hating on him. Oh, and this season he had a gimpy Hughes across from him. Kudos to Hughes for gutting out last season, but it wasn’t like he was drawing attention away from Murphy. So do what? Open up a huge hole at DE to save $8M? And these same people wanted to give Shaq $10M-$12M a year. SMH. I just don’t get it. Edited to add: Murphy had 2 sacks, 2 additional QB hits and a tackle for loss in the playoff game. He might not have been our best defensive player, but he certainly was an asset.

Converting roster bonuses and salary into a signing bonus only kicks the cap hit down the road to future years of the contract. If the player is released, then the portion of the signing bonus that has not been accounted for accelerates into the current year (or the following year if it’s after 6/1). So that would not have done the Rams any good at all here.

Really? He played in 6 games and had 8 catches, 5 of which were in the week 17 scrub fest against the Jest. I’m not even saying that you’re wrong, just that I have no idea what information you could be basing your opinion on. Sweeney got some limited exposure in the first 5 games, then right to the bench until week 17. It’s not like Kroft was keeping him on there with his 6 receptions in 11 games. I get that some players are raw and need to be developed, but give me something specific here.
