Asking prices for players were insane at last season’s deadline. Glad we passed on that nonsense.

There’s little love for him now, but some were excited when he signed here (benefit of doubt to org, I get that). I was not a fan. It was baffling why the Bills (or anyone else) would overpay him that much. He’s done so little in his career. I know we were in a tight spot at TE, but WOW. We massively overpaid for a backup level TE. Here’s hoping we move on by the time his roster bonus is due in March.

I’d sure take Clowney. I like him better as a DE than I do Cooper as a WR. Plus DE will be difficult to fill in the draft. WR should not be a problem.

Anyone who says that Allen is “the second coming of Elway” (that’s Super Bowl MVP, 2 time SB champ, 9 time Pro Bowler and first ballot HOF QB John Elway) should be called out for it. I think that sounds a lot like picking and choosing data in order to confirm a bias. If you think Josh Allen is the second coming of John Elway, then you should probably stop talking football with other people.

Allen over Trubisky due mainly to his potential. Trubisky has been pretty much what I expected him to be over 3 seasons - a serviceable QB, but not a franchise guy. Allen was definitely a raw, high risk prospect with a pretty high ceiling and a big bust probability. I wouldn’t have drafted either since I didn’t see it with Trubisky and I didn’t think Allen was worth the risk. But Allen has exceeded my expectations thus far. He has been a serviceable starting QB overall. He has flashed at times and faltered badly at others. His progress has earned him the opportunity to continue to grow and he should get a lot of help in that regard. If he does, then that’s great news. If not, it’ll be a strong indication that he has topped out at a level that isn’t good enough. You seem to think Allen rates much better than his metrics. Why?

Between Trubisky and Allen? Or in general?

Like for instance when someone has a biased view of a player. It’s easy for someone to see what they want to see. But when what they see consistently differs from the metrics - in the direction of their preference - then the culprit is usually bias.

Lots of specific differences between the teams, but the points that: - defenses that did well in a year where they stayed unusually healthy could drop off a bit if they have a typical amount of injuries the following season and - QBs who haven’t stepped completely up yet might hold their team back if they don’t progress seem pretty valid. The article doesn’t even say that they necessarily expect the Bills to follow the Bears, just that the trajectories are similar to a point and that it’s something that bears watching. Heck, I see the keys to success next season being: - Allen’s development - additions to fill holes on team - ability to manage a more difficult schedule - health of team The article hits two of those points If anything I’d say that it was a bit obvious and could’ve gotten into more factors and details, but it’s not wrong on its main points.

That’s fair. I just don’t want the Bills to depend on him for anything. If he stays out of trouble and steps up his game, then that’ll be a nice bonus. If not, then we will be covered.

I agree. I’m a fan of the refs letting players play, but I was shocked that wasn’t called.

I don’t know where you’d find that. I’d guess that there are some natural variations like being low on players that get big deals early and high on players that linger on the market. They also tend to rely on comparisons with players of a similar age who play the same position and have similar stats. Other factors like hometown discounts, off the field stuff, locker room leadership, etc. probably don’t get accounted for. Still, there’s something to be said for an estimate based only on expected production.

I checked in with Spotrac and they’ve done a MV for him: 4 years at $7.6M per https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/buffalo-bills/shaq-lawson-18967/market-value/ So that 2 year, $16M contract a poster mentioned is a pretty solid estimate.

I think that something like this is likely. He’d be a guy I’d like to have on a 2 year deal (that could become a 1 year deal) while I see how my DE draft pick this year pans out.

That pass was thrown up for grabs to a fullback who was double covered. I can’t see how anyone defenses that decision. Josh had better options like Brown who came open underneath. Or simply running the ball and seeing what he could do against the spy with or without blockers. And he had OL that looked back at him he could’ve sent ahead to block.

No idea for sure, but speculation on this seems pretty straightforward. The Pats lost in the WC round and look to be fading, their Specials coach and now maybe their OC/QB coach is gone. Plus who know who goes along to The CLE with McD if this gets inked? Seems like the time to move on to me, but who knows what’s going on with Brady? To me I think it’s time for him to hang them up. He looks done. The Colts might be a nice fit for him for a year while the find another QB, but I can’t imagine uprooting his family for that - or Giselle wanting to hang out in Indy for longer than to watch a road game and have dinner at St. Elmo’s.

Honestly I think the refs did a good job overall and specifically by letting that play continue. They were letting a lot of stuff go all game. I’m not sure why one found his whistle on the Ford block, but that was the only big exception to how the game was being officiated.

Yup. Second highest AAV by a whisper. He’s a very good center being paid like an outstanding one. But I’m not complaining as such is the price of rebuilding. The Bills took some real pain to clear cap space and part of that was so they could write some of those contracts to players like Morse.

It’s McDaniels’ job to accept or deny. Will come down to whether he gets what he wants regarding the organizational structure. If he’s going home to coach the Browns, it’ll be on his terms. He is going to succeed or fail doing things his way. Or he heads back to NE.

Back when he was TE coach of the Pats his daughter and mine were on the same soccer team. He came in to Buffalo from NE to spend time with her and see her play when he could. When in Cleveland I got to know the Special Teams Coach (at the time) and his family a little bit. He worked a lot but pretty much spent all of his free time with his wife and kids.
