The highlights from Cleveland’s old Muni bring back memories. Dual use facility with baseball so there was always a section of the field that had the infield dirt across it. I remember an outfielder getting traded away who said “I don’t have any idea where to stand here. In Cleveland I’d just stand on the 50.”

Steelers decline 5th year option for Najee Harris
BarleyNY replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
That is fair. But the one thing to consider is the sudden, dramatic increase in pay for RBs. The 5th year option numbers are based on last season’s contracts. Retaining Harris would keep Warren in the role he has excelled at and that’s important. Still, it’s a bit rich and I don’t blame the Steelers for not picking it up, but a case can be made that it would be a reasonable value. I checked OTC’s valuation of him and they have it at $6.64M, which supports that. -
Steelers decline 5th year option for Najee Harris
BarleyNY replied to Canadian Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agree he’s their 2nd best RB. The only surprising thing is that the 5th year option would have only been $6.7M. I understand why a team wouldn’t want to pay that for their second best RB, but with the big increase in RB compensation this off-season it might’ve been worth doing. Especially since he is still their starter and their 3rd RB is Cordarrelle Patterson. -
Tim Graham article on Kim Pegula and Bills ownership

Considering the situation with the kids’ moms I can understand why there might be some animosity. That makes a lot of sense. -
Yeah. Huge. Even if you want to bank on Coleman hitting big and Shakir continuing to improve, we will still want to upgrade (or at least find a long term successor for) Samuel. As much as I like Coleman the person I’m not a fan of Coleman the player, so I personally wouldn’t bank on him hitting. But I get your point. Every projected need for next season is subject to change. This is not different. I genuinely hope he surprises me and kills it.

What's the point of this team's philosophy?
BarleyNY replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
The reduction of turnovers did seem to be the biggest positive outcome of the move from Dorsey and his pass heavy offense to Brady and his more run heavy offense. That reduction definitely translated to more wins in the second half of last season. I think it was more a case of bad luck early in the season though. Last season under Dorsey Allen had more interceptions than turnover worthy throws and it seemed like we lost a higher than typical amount of fumbles. Overall, passing is more efficient than running in the NFL. That was mitigated somewhat by defenses using schemes and personnel geared toward stopping the pass. But judging by recent trends it looks like defenses have moved into more balanced approach. In any event, here's hoping that the Bills are flexible and use whatever approach works best. -
Largely agree. 1. 10-7 is my expectation as well. Likely a WC, but should compete for AFCE title. 2. Miller is gone next offseason for sure. He will be cut with a post 6/1 designation. Knox has partial guarantees for his salary in 2025 so I think he stays, but that’s probably it for him. 3. Draft and/or FA has to bring help to the team DE1 is job 1. WR is a huge need as well. 4. Allen’s contract rework this offseason was to get him to next season. He’s going to get an extension and a raise next offseason.

I do. Thanks.

Josh Working With WR’s Beyond OTAs/Camp
BarleyNY replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think it’s more about building chemistry by getting to know each other both on and off the field. It’s not the be-all-end-all, but it’s not unimportant. -
🤬 Gabe Davis barely hanging on to the last 4th round comp pick.

It makes no sense to me not to lean into Allen’s talent. I’m all for getting him help in any form on the offense or team. But I do not understand why we’d take the ball out of his hands and lean into running to shorten the game. it feels like McDermott is protecting his defense at the expense of the offense and the team overall. -

Well, McDermott is his boss. Why wouldn’t he call games like his boss wanted him to do? I would think they spoke about that before Brady took over - and throughout the season. Seems like he was on board enough to take the job. -
I’ve been thinking about how the offense will evolve. At a very basic level I’d expect to see a short yardage and RZ package with 12 personnel including Coleman. Longer yardage and longer field personnel we might see more 11 with WRs and TE determined by matchups. Obviously nothing earth shattering in that. Just thinking about when we’d see different players on the field.

I don’t know how much that will help because I don’t see an addition like MVS getting on the field much. Here’s where my heads at: If I am a DC and the Bills bring in 21 personnel with Coleman as a WR, then I’m only worried about one WR getting deep. I’m keeping the defense in a coverage that can be aggressive against the run, short to intermediate passing game and getting to the QB. If Coleman can excel at making contested catches downfield then that would change things, but that’s tough to do. Or maybe we just move back to more 11. -
Good article on the value of the 40 yd. dash
BarleyNY replied to Dubie54's topic in The Stadium Wall
This board’s sudden and enthusiastic dedication to the “fast 40 time” straw man is impressive. -
Oh crap. I misread that. Thank you for the correction. I won’t bother to find out who was in group 8 then.

I’ve been hoping to see Coleman’s in game tracking data - especially his speed. This makes me feel a bit better about the selection.

Your favorite moment / game of the old core of players
BarleyNY replied to Sharky7337's topic in The Stadium Wall
Mine was watching Davis break a DBs ankles and catch the go ahead TD with 13 seconds left in the AFCC game against KC. I was elated and stunned. I said “I can’t believe we did it! We’re going to the Super Bowl!” and hugged my daughter. I was a true believer in this team and had confidence they could win Buffalo a championship. -

Opposing DCs aren’t stupid. In general they moved to playing a lot of coverages like two deep to take away deep throws down the sidelines. That reduced explosive plays league wide. But I think the problem is that you need to be able to threaten deep or defenses will play more MOFC coverages like C-1 and C-3 that are better against the run and seam routes. No decent DC is going to sit in a C-2 and C-4 all day against a team that can’t reliably threaten deep. -
New Bill - former Lion Quintez Cephus signed (Update: Now released)
BarleyNY replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall
Is it about 40 times? I thought it was about adding good players with speed. That’s something I think would help this team, especially compared with adding good players who are not fast by NFL standards. -
In game tracking data is far more useful than a 40 time run in shorts. It’s too bad that that data is not publicly available at this point. Watching Coleman play and looking at the data we do have it’s easy to conclude that he has sufficient speed to play WR in the NFL, but also that he is not fast enough that speed will be a positive difference making asset for him. Now as for his difficulties separating, that’s a big concern made bigger by a lack of speed.

What vet cut after 6/1 will be a meaningful addition here?
