Bob Costas Brings Up A Good Point about NFL Players
BarleyNY replied to DefenseWins's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Totally agree. Most people aren’t interested in informed debate or even determining what’s really right, they just want to argue their uninformed, preconceived opinion. -
Jon Feliciano torn pec (returning to practice 10/7)

Thanks for the info. That’s really a shame. -

He’d come out way ahead taking his money this season and signing even a vet minimum deal next season - and he will get more than that if he plays. Also don’t forget that players who opt out this season are only getting an advance on their contract that is paid next season. Plus he doesn’t have to worry about being cut before next season and losing out on his salary. He even has the option to retire after this season whereas he’d have to play in 2021 to get his money if he opted out. There is really no upside at all for him to opt out. -

The OL was okay with Feliciano, but it was not exactly a team strength IMO. Without him I agree that it’s weaker. The Bills were pretty lucky with injuries last season and I don’t think we can count in that again. Another OL starter goes down - especially Dawkins or Morse - and the OL will be a big weakness. I’d hate to see it derail a promising season and impact Allen’s development and evaluation. -

I wonder if they’re having another test done or getting a second doctor’s opinion before announcing? Just to be 100% certain. -
Star Lotulelei opting out for 2020
BarleyNY replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It was that bad of a contract. The reworked one made it better but the original was an absolutely horrible contract for the Bills. Again, it’s not what we’ve typically seen from Beane but he screwed the pooch on that one. -

Ive said it a hundred times. That contract was ridiculous. I’ve liked what Beane has done overall, but that was worthy of firing a GM over. -

No. Maybe traded tho. He has $7M in fully guaranteed salary in his next two seasons. His whole $4.5M salary in 2020 (or 2021 with opt out) and and $2.5M of his following year’s salary are guaranteed. Unless he is a total liability then there is really no way he won’t play at least one more season. Unless the Bills trade him that is. -
Lewis and his two friends murdered two men, then fled the scene, paid off their limo driver and destroyed evidence of their crimes. Lewis claims that he wasn’t directly involved in the murders, but I am skeptical. Seems likely that the two poor, anonymous guys took the whole fall for the murders and the rich and famous guy skated.

It’s often like this: There’s the generation that grew up poor and made the money. They have a strong work ethic and remember where they came from. There’s the generation that watched that happen and remember being poor as children. They usually retain much of the same ethics as their parents even though things were much easier for them as they grew up. Then there’s the third generation that only knew wealth and privilege. That’s usually the hard slide from a work ethic and morals standpoint and is when money gets pissed away. The Chinese have a saying for that cycle: Shirt sleeves to shirt sleeves in three generations.

Charges against Ed Oliver dismissed

This is fantastic news. -
Honest assessment here: Ceiling: Cam in MVP year Floor: Derek Anderson in back half of time in Cleveland I don’t really expect either, but I do think they’re both in the realm of possibility. If things click with mechanics and progressions/reads, then I see great things for Allen. That’s very optimistic, but it could happen. Why not root for it? As for the DA worst case dooms day scenario, it’s about confidence. Allen is still better as a player in a lot of ways, but DA had similar accuracy issues and once defenses adjusted coverages to him he lost his confidence and crashed. Allen started off well in the Houston game, but really lost it after his fumble. There’s a part of me that worries that his confidence might not be where it should be. With little practice time to settle in before this season starts I worry about what a slow/rough start might do to him in that regard. As for defenses scheming against him, the difference between his performances against zone versus man is ridiculous. I was stunned every time I saw heavy zone against him last season. Realistically I’m looking for some incremental improvement. In addition to Allen moving up the learning curve a bit I want to address what look like two statistical anomalies from last season where I think the odds played out both for and against Allen. He should’ve gotten better numbers on his deep balls. I think those will be better this season and that it’ll help him, his stats and the team. With Diggs on board, maybe it’ll help them a lot. But there are also his turnover worthy plays last season. Too many errant throws that could’ve been picked but weren’t. And too many fumbles that we were lucky enough to get back at a higher than expected rate. Statistically I think that gets closer to the mean this year and we see more interceptions and lost fumbles. Hopefully the better deep pass numbers outweigh the turnover numbers and we see a net positive.

Your daughter 18 yet?

A friend of mine’s daughter and friend went to a brewery in Lockport last weekend. It was just to eat dinner as they are underage. They said that there were people at the bar shoulder to shoulder. Almost no patrons wearing masks. That’s the reason stuff like the food rule gets enacted. I just hope the rules get enforced. I don’t want WNY to be Florida in a month.

https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-franchise-tag-roundup-dak-prescott-derrick-henry-yannick-ngakoue The deadline to reach new agreements has passed for franchise tagged players. Here’s where they all stand. Dak is obviously the big news for NOT getting a deal. Not a ton of surprises though, except I’d have thought that AJ Green would’ve signed his tag by now.

Bucs Get $10.4 Million for Upgrades to RJS .

Did the Pegulas host fundraisers for Trump like Glaser did? If not, then they’re probably not on the list. -
Hey, remember all the posters on here who kept talking about what a steal Shaq was where the Bills got him in the draft? How his torn labrum (that we knew he had when we drafted him!) caused him to miss so much time his rookie season was no big deal because he’d be a stud DE long term? I wonder what happened to them?

Browns and Garrett agree on 5 year 125 million extension
BarleyNY replied to Greg S's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He certainly is one of the top few DEs in the league. NFL teams still seem to be of the opinion that the cap will take a huge jump after the pandemic is over and the new TV deals are signed. The Browns extended Garrett 5 years past his current contract (through 2026) so while those extension numbers are large, the contract will be relatively team friendly. He gets cash early and they get a better deal than they would have if they’d waited. It’s a win-win. -
New Redskins name in 24-48 hours
BarleyNY replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think “Warriors” would be an issue because of Golden State. There doesn’t ever seem to be a new name for a pro team that duplicates an existing one. I know the Columbus Blue Jackets said that was a criteria for their name when they were choosing it. And IIRC Cleveland said the same thing when they thought they’d need a new name. -

BarleyNY replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. That’s where my money would be. I popped over to one of the fan sites and that’s the only name with a buzz. Allegedly there’s been some communication between the team and Arkansas State who use Red Wolves as their mascot. Nothing in stone obviously, but Red Wolves looks likely. -
Sport "slogans" or quotes that stay with you..
BarleyNY replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Cleveland baseball announcer when I was growing up used “ducks on the pond” and “the bags are juiced” regularly. Those go through my mind every time I see either two or three runners on base. For football it’s Herm Edwards: “You play to win the game.”
