If the NFL started from scratch today...
BarleyNY replied to mathja's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Doing a draft from zero really wouldn’t tell you much about the QBs except who is proven and who is going with upside. The better question is: What kind of contract would you give each player, particularly Allen? That is a particularly good question since it’s one that’ll need answered in the real world soon. -
So sorry about Kenny ?

Still slow burning over bad calls in Texans' game
BarleyNY replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Only the losers B word about bad calls because they’re the only ones looking for them. The winners are on to the next game. Few notice the calls - whether they’re good, bad, questionable or just properly enforced bad rules - when they go in their team’s favor. They only dissect them when they don’t and they lose. -
POLL: How much should a safety be worth?
BarleyNY replied to cage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting article and discussion. Why not just make it a defensive TD and award it to the defender making the tackle? Proceed from there like any TD. 6 points and PAT/2-pt conversation, then kick off to follow. -
Bill O'Brien; the Man, the Myth, the Moron

Please update this post to reflect the fact that as part of the Clowney to Seattle trade Houston ate $7M of his contract. This is 100% true and is reflected in the dead money attributed to Clowney in 2019 shown here: Texicans 2019 salary cap info Edit: spelling/autocorrect -
Interesting Player Starting to Slide

RB is a big need. I do favor adding one that is a complete threat though. A RB who can pass protect and catch the ball out of the backfield are important parts of the passing game too. Right now Singletary is all we have and the offense changed dramatically when he was out getting breathers or missing games last season. I am not interested in pushing our luck. Get me another quality RB who has a complete game. I don’t care where we find that RB, but we need one like that. Edit: Singletary had 151 rush attempts (and 29 receptions) in 12 games in 2019. I have to think that we’d have run the ball - and run it much more effectively - with a second quality RB getting touches. -
“That’s not funny, that’s sick” had that on the cover. It was a tremendous comedy album. Bill Murray and Brian Doyle Murray were on it, among others.

My opinion of CC has changed over the years. He started off bad, but really seemed to take his job seriously as a professional. He got quite good and insightful there for awhile, but then he fell back down into pretty bad territory. A lot of it is getting stuck on talking points, some of which are very questionable to begin with. Then there’s my biggest pet peeve - when he does little besides state the obvious.

Dan Fouts is out at CBS; replaced by Charles Davis

I seem to remember that he was pretty decent early in his career. Maybe he just got lazy and started phoning it in. -
Agreed. Time for us all to come together for the common good.

Second try Oops. Pasted into wrong box. Fixed OP. Thanks for the heads up.

He’s at total POS. People quit over him coming back to work for the Browns the second time. My first thought upon reading that story is of Belichick calling other GMs to see about trading up in the first round. (Lombardi has often worked for him as a consultant.) At this point Lombardi could totally throw off everyone simply by telling the truth once.

Link Due to the restaurant slowdown and cancellation of the NCAA tournament the US is sitting on a huge surplus of wings. I, for one, intend to stock up the freezer.

Weird, right? Actually I do like rye. Besides, scotch is 100% barley.

Ramsey went from Jacksonville to LA. I can’t think of a bigger jump in marketability and city. Even Green Bay gets exposure even though the city itself is minuscule. But the smaller cities do offer a lot of upside for many players. They’re affordable and provide a good atmosphere for families. That might not mean a lot to a top tier player who is single and signed to a huge contract, but it means a lot to mid tier (and lower) players with families. Places like Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh can look mighty appealing compared to SF, LA and New Jersey. Add in winning and a team can be in pretty good shape.

Mike Clay 2020 team projections: Bills

Crap. You’re correct. I thought a pew poster said they were first and I didn’t check. My bad. -
Premier really is my go to to find stuff like unusual bitters. I have three different ones from there.

Mike Clay 2020 team projections: Bills
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, I agree. Fans usually think best case scenario while modeling tries to hit the middle of the bell curve. Id wager that there are three big things negatively impacting the projected win total: 1) Relative strength of schedule between last season and this season, 2) Pythagorean Wins estimates (or something similar) which uses points for and points against to calculate expected wins. (It’s a better indicator of a team’s record than that team’s record from the last season.) In 2019 the Bills didn’t fare nearly as well in that metric as they did in the W-L columns. And 3) Health. The Bills definitely had some issues there, but they we still comfortably better than average in that regard. So it’s not to say that we won’t beat the averages again. Every SB winner has some luck. We’re almost certainly getting better this season, but so are two of the three other teams in our division. The vast majority of teams would say the same even if some of them will be proven wrong. The real takeaway for me is that his expected numbers indirectly show how a jump forward from Allen would impact the team. Moving lots of those important stats that are middling into the good to great territory would make the Bills quite the powerhouse. That’s not something we all don’t already know of course, but he gives us a pretty good indication of what to expect if it doesn’t happen. -

He hates it so much that he rates our defense #1 in the league?
