Russell Wilson Says He’s the Best in NFL
BarleyNY replied to NoHuddleKelly12's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If I understand this correctly, Dan Patrick asked Wilson if he thought he was the best QB in the league and Wilson stayed that without a doubt he thought he was. What else should he have said? He’s certainly top 5 in the game today. Brady and Brees are waning though one could still argue that Brees is better. Mahomes is young and in an O that is stacked, but he’s probably 1. Rodgers is probably 2. Last night I watched a little All-22 of the GB-MIN game. Such a contrast watching Cousins miss open receivers and throw a pick then seeing Rodgers look at tight coverage everywhere only to drop a dime TD to the only receiver who had even the slightest separation. Amazing. Wilson is right there with that group though. -
Please do not offer any additional details about what you’re doing while you watch Allen play.

Robert Woods 4yr/65m extension
BarleyNY replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Iggles really kept the pedal to the metal on their spending to keep open their window. And that’s not been good in a lot of ways. I watched their week 1 loss to Jax and all I could think was “They’re running headlong into cap hell for this?” Also Carson Wentz is horribly overrated, but I knew that. No way the Iggles win that SB if he wasn’t injured. More generally contract numbers can look a lot bigger than they are in reality. Incentives and possible bonuses often get included in the total as do non-guaranteed years with relatively large salaries that players are unlikely to see. I’m happy for Woods. He earned it and I hope he gets it all. -
TNF: Bengals at Browns 8:20 Eastern on NFLN
BarleyNY replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A note on Teller. As mentioned PFF graded him out at an elite level last week. He looks to be a spectator fit in the Browns I/O Zone scheme. Great, inexpensive (probably flat out lucky if we’re honest) pick up for the Browns. That all said, he wouldn’t look anything like that in the Bills Power/Gap scheme. He didn’t do anything in that scheme last year with the Browns just like he didn’t here. It was the right move by Beane to get something for him. -

He was my favorite QB since Luck. I’m not saying Cincy can’t ruin him, but he can be a great pro. -
Edit: NFL removes Bass's kick from All-22 video
BarleyNY replied to Da webster guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think it would be difficult to keep the camera pointed directly up. Too easy for it to get jostled when the posts are raised and subsequently by the wind and balls hitting the uprights. There’s also the problem of the posts not pointing exactly upwards in the wind. The cameras would have to be set prior to raising the uprights and they’d be out of whack by the time they were raised. -

Throwing a challenge flag on a non-reviewable or automatically reviewed play is actually a penalty. That’s certainly something. -
How many tickets have you gotten?
BarleyNY replied to Halloween Land's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I would get one about every 6 months as a kid. But have only gotten one in the last 20+ years. I really don’t speed much unless you count 7 miles over the limit speeding. My dog barfed in my car and I had to go home, clean it up and then take her back to Camp Bow Wow. That made me very, very late and I was rushing. I got nailed for 70 in a 55 on 290. I was new to Buffalo and now know that’s a speed trap. -
Agreed. Show up and you may get it knocked down to non-moving violations. You’ll pay a fine, the city will get their cash and you won’t have points driving up your insurance rates. Shortly after moving to Buffalo I got a ticket in the speed trap on 290. I paid it. The wife got a much worse speeding ticket a year or so later. Much worse speeding violation in a different part of town (Cheektowaga I think). She went to court. It took time but it was an easy process that almost everyone who showed up got to go through. Tickets were knocked down to non moving violations and fines and court costs were paid. One last piece of advice. She dressed very nicely that day - and got busted in an Audi. She paid a much higher fine than anyone else she saw go through. Still, it was way better than it would’ve been. So dress respectfully but not too nice.

This was probably already addressed by someone else, but the $99 NFL Game Pass is a good deal. You have to wait until the game is over to watch, but you can choose from condensed games and All 22 as well as the regular broadcast. If I have 40 spare minutes I can watch a competitive, condensed game. It’s also good to watch All 22 versions of Bills games to focus on a player or the schemes or just rewatch a fun game in condensed format. And I gotta be honest, I love the condensed games. Not only are they time savers, you don’t hear all the inane banter from the booth between plays. I get a good feeling every time the color guy gets cut off.

Will Epenesa be inactive on Sunday? Interesting scenario
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Oh and then there’s this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/bangedupbills.com/2020/09/12/2020-week-1-bills-jets-injury-preview/amp/ INACTIVE LIST This is incredibly tricky due to the fluid nature of the practice squad list. However, there still has to be several inactives. CB Josh Norman G Ike Boettger QB Jake Fromm RB TJ Yeldon TE Reggie Gilliam WR Isaiah McKenzie It would appear that Epenesa will be active for the game. -

What depth chart? The unofficial depth chart published by the Bills media team? Please don’t read anything into that. As someone else previously posted the Ravens unofficial depth chart has JK Dobbins listed as their 4th RB, and we know that’s not true. Jeez. Relax. -

Will Epenesa be inactive on Sunday? Interesting scenario

So you only had to go back to 1999 to find a DE who was the 16th overall pick who had a stellar rookie season. That’s hilarious. -
Will Epenesa be inactive on Sunday? Interesting scenario
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why are you expecting a DE selected 54th overall to be a stud? At that point in the draft I’d say a GM did well if that player developed into a competent starter at DE. Also (and I already brought these things up): 1) why would you ignore the impact of no OTAs, a shortened TC and lack of preseason games on rookies starting or being active for the first game? 2) when was it announced that Epenesa is going to be inactive? 3) why ignore the fact that a bunch of players at a variety of positions have been inactive or have not played early in their rookie seasons? I am not even saying that I have high expectations for Epenesa, but it’s silly to put so much emphasis on his status for game one of his rookie season, especially when we don’t know what that status is. With no preseason games and such a shortened offseason do you really expect a lot of rookies drafted beyond the first round to see action early? Even in regular seasons it is rare for players taken past the early second to get much playing time. I mean, what’s your point? That you didn’t like the pick? Great. Then just say that instead of trying to make something out of nothing. -

BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You have a lot wrong here. First off, DE is absolutely not a position rookies jump in and contribute early. Early first rounders, sure. Not so much after that. Feel free to list all of the DEs that started game 1 or even contributed early in their rookie season. I looked through last season’s first three rounds. Not a lot there as far as games started - or even played - from DEs outside the top 10 picks (Bosa, Ferrell and the other Josh Allen). Some mixed results even with those high picks too. For further comparison, the 54th player selected last season was a CB, Lonnie Johnson, who played in 11 games. I know there have been players selected at 54 and after who have come in and contributed (or even started successfully) from game one, but it’s not the norm. You might wanna let this one play out for a little while before making any judgment. Also it wouldn’t hurt to get your facts straight. -
Brian Daboll is on the hotseat starting TOMORROW
BarleyNY replied to Penfield45's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yup. Daboll has not been perfect to be sure, but there have been a lot of times that he’s put the team into position to succeed and execution has failed. Those all haven’t been Allen’s fault either, but he’s had plenty. And for some reason some people blame Daboll for all of that. -

BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Epensa was the 54th overall pick. You can’t find other examples of players drafted around that spot that didn’t dress or play in their first NFL game? And I’d note that in this case the player didn’t have a OTAs, a full training camp or 4 preseason games to get ready and we still aren’t even sure that he’s not dressing. -

Really interested to see how Epensa would match up against Becton. He’s probably the only DE on the team that could go power v power against him. -
Draft gurus: Mekhi Becton vs Jerry Hughes?
BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is pretty much how I see it. Keeping up a rotation against Becton is important. I’m sure he’ll get help and they’ll run a lot, but I’d make sure we have a savvy vet going against him on every third and long. I’m sure we will also test him mentally with a lot of stunts and overloaded lines. -
Jags might have something to say about that, but yeah, Washington is gonna be picking top 3. In that footage I saw Diggs do well against man though he didn’t get great separation as often as I expected to see based on what I’ve read. He battled for the ball well and there were plenty of bad throws that required him to do that. He was absolutely murdering zone coverage though. Ridiculous.
-
I agree with this. There was a reason both teams ran the ball so much early last night. They needed to get settled and both were a little sloppy especially early. We were looking at the SB champ against another playoff team too. Two preseason games would’ve made a difference. Teams with new coaches/schemes and/or a lot of player turnover will not look that good. The league doesn’t want a rookie OT getting a QB knocked out for a season because he couldn’t be worked in more slowly in the preseason.

BarleyNY replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I’m actually surprised to read these realistic takes. Nicely done. I see things very similarly. In Beane’s first year he really went all out getting young, raw cornerstones on both sides of the ball - Allen and Edmunds. After this season we will either be talking about their productivity or their potential and that’ll tell us everything we need to know about them. It does bring up an interesting question though. What’s the proper criteria on which to judge a GM? Flat out results? Sound, defensible decision marking - including taking reasonable risks whether or not they pay off? IMO it’s a mix of the two, but I’ll say this. Beane will look a heck of a lot better if Allen and Edmunds pay off than if they don’t and, fair or not, he’ll probably be judged by most fans on Allen alone. I’ve really liked some of the things Beane has done (Diggs trade, Dawkins and Tre extensions) and really questioned some others (Star and Kroft contracts). Things will obviously come into much better focus after this season plays out.
