  1. Not when there is guaranteed future money involved, as is the case with Star’s contract. He has some guaranteed salary this season.
  2. I’m going by the Spotrac link. If you click the red x at the right under the season in question it shows the possible cut and trade financials.
  3. His new money does become a lot more reasonable so it will depend on his play. He is 31 now so I’m not expecting his play to improve. Ofc maybe the year off will help him. You never know.
  4. A post 6/1/21 release would only move $2.6M dead cap to 2022. The Bills would still have a worse hit this season than if they kept him. Unless they can trade him or get him to agree to take less for an immediate release, he’s gonna be on the team this season. I don’t see either happening so he will be here this year. That should be it though.
  5. Spotrac Star Contract $7.6M cap hit if he’s on the team this season, then a $5.1M dead cap next season if cut before 6/1/22 $11.8M dead cap if cut this season before 6/1/21 The real problem is his guaranteed (and dead) money. Total cap hits if he is on the team this season: $12.7M versus $11.8M if he’s not, so it’s only costing the team $900k to have him play. So unless they can trade him or there is a huge issue with him, he’s here for 2021. Though there is a possibility that they could come to an agreement to part ways where they lessen the money they owe him in exchange for letting him hit the market as a FA. I doubt he’d do that though.
  6. Well, you got the “he’s not tradable” part right. Serious question tho: If he doesn’t get any decent offers as a FA, what about bringing him back as depth on a cheap 1 year deal with incentives? That might make a lot of sense to both parties IMO.
  7. One additional point: the team and player can still add an extension to the contract, including guaranteed money paid after the 5th year
  8. It’s what they are contractually obliged to do. While it’s true that the league could increase that amount if they wanted to, there’s little reason for them to do so as it would cut into their profits and upset the large number of teams who are in good cap shape. Also the NFLPA would not agree to borrowing from future caps. I do not blame them for that as doing so would likely decrease overall spending slightly.
  9. The most startling thing I saw on that that video is how much smaller Epenesa was last year versus in college. Transitioning from college to the NFL is tough enough, but transitioning your body type at the same time has to be incredibly tough.
  10. Beane has handled the Milano situation properly thus far IMO. Now we are waiting to see what his market bears. Hopefully he gives us a last look if his offers aren’t where he expects them to be. If he gets PAID, then we’re out. If not, then back here even on a one year deal isn’t a bad way for him to go. He’d be playing in a familiar defense and would hit the market again when the cap jumps. That’s really our best shot IMO.
  11. There will be an impact to be sure, but that impact has been way overhyped. (Imagine that!). It will not be in “bloodbath” territory for the vast majority of teams. That’s due in large part to the massive increase expected in next year’s cap. A lot of mid tier vets will take it in the shorts for a year though. A good example of exactly how much of a bloodbath it is not is that the team with the worst cap situation this season, New Orleans, was able to use their franchise tag.
  12. It’s really not that bad of an issue. Teams are using restructuring and voidable years to move cap hits into next season and beyond. The expectation of significantly higher caps starting in 2022 allows teams to do this pretty freely.
  13. 33 years old this month and coming off a pretty bad season. Ima pass on that unless it’s for depth and he’s really cheap.
  14. So this happened last week and I haven’t heard a single word about it until now, but there’s been a “backlash”? And I follow the Browns. This isn’t even on the fan site I frequent. And it’s not like they don’t hunt in the UK. Edit: There’s actually a two page thread (which is nothing for that site) on it from the 5th. As you would expect there’s nothing but support for Teller.
  15. Oh. That’s right. They tagged Godwin. My bad.
  16. He and Barrett are likely getting tagged sometime in the next 3 hours. It usually goes that way with players like them.
  17. I think that’s the plan unless they happen to find a bargain in FA.
  18. If he can consistently draw sustained double teams and keep Edmunds clean, then I’ll be happy with him. Lots of people mention that he did that in 2019. I watched for it and I saw him handled by a single blocker or a quick chip from a second far more often than not. And I saw him moved consistently. That’s definitely not a statistical analysis and I can’t find one so don’t take it as gospel. At any rate he’s on the team this year so I’m hoping for the best from him.
  19. I like the idea of Star at the 1 for early/rushing downs and Oliver manning it on late/passing downs. He can split time at the 3 as well, but his rush defense sucked last season. I want him to have a chance to earn those snaps back, but I don’t want them handed to him. While I agree, he’s on the team this season due to his contract so we might as well see what he can do against the run.
  20. I’ve got no problem with ownership setting expectations. That’s not exactly how I’d have done it, but l think that setting high expectations for your team can be helpful. I remember when the Rooney’s did that for the Steelers. The comment was something like “It’s been way too long since we’ve won a (or have been in the) Super Bowl.” I thought it was a bit arrogant at the time, but they freaking won it that season. I adjusted my opinion on the matter accordingly.
  21. That’s a good point. That may be their plan. Are they for sure moving him from OT to C? I know he played a little C for us but missed anything about a permanent switch.
  22. Milano and Williams are our most prominent FAs. I’m not using it on either of them. The only other very outside possibility is using it on a punter, which I can’t imagine happens.
  23. I get why the Bills would go this route. They interior OL does need the stability of him being there. I don’t think the risk is worth it though. I just can’t believe that he will finish the season without another concussion and I expect the the next one will probably be it for him. Finding a capable back up - which we absolutely don’t have right now - is a must. Mongo really helped in that regard last season.
  24. I was expecting him to be a cut and another center to be signed - possibly even Mongo returning. While this is certainly better than paying him what he was due, I’d have probably still gone that route. One more concussion and I don’t see how you ever put him back on the field. I’d be shocked if we don’t draft a center this year.
  25. Looking at his contract, he’s done. Or at least done as a Saint. He’s only on the books for $1M of new money this season and we know that’s not happening. That - and some voidable years - are just there so that the Saints can designate him a June 1 release and move a bunch of his cap hit to next year. Brees contract details
