  1. Not what I addressed in my post. Try to stay on topic. But here’s my take concerning police forces: A necessary component of a democracy is the ability of its citizens to effectively oversee the people who’s job it is to police them. (Thus the outrage over Trump’s recent threats to utilize the military against US citizens.) I know nothing specific about any calls to defund police departments, but I fully support implementing reasonable measures to oversee them. I would not support blanket defunding of all of them, but I would support any array of disciplinary actions against those found to be chronic violators of people’s civil rights. Actions should have consequences, no?
  2. I think you should look into how many of those people you listed grew up. That almost always stays with a person. As for the current bail system, that’s a tremendously important problem in need of reform. Ditto for-profit prisons.
  3. That is another thing of value with the Diggs trade. With him ready to roll this sets the table on offense. Allen steps it up or he doesn’t, but at least the Bills should have some clarity with him this season. That’s huge because the significant financial decisions start getting made next offseason.
  4. Tre’s right about the response by Brees. I had the same reaction: Brees has a good PR person. Not a great one though because a great PR person would have made it seem more genuine and believable.
  5. Truth. I read them all. It was the first season of kid pitch baseball. I had the time. Cogs is a pretty awful person. I don’t think he intentionally bullied his teammate, but he’s not a good dude. Or was not at the time.
  6. Well said. You, Kirby and others here have voiced my opinion better than I could have so I’ll just add this: If we are going to better our country, then this can’t be about any symbol, person or specific act. The people who want to keep this country divided are the ones doing that now as well as trying to incite all sides. They also make simple, false equivocations. They make the issue about a bad cop or a QB kneeling for the anthem. The focus has to be on the problem at hand and how to improve our society. The brave men and women who fought and died for our country didn’t do it so we could sit around and have petty, fruitless squabbles much less harm each other for no reason. Give them their due and put in the difficult, hard work to make this a better country. Even if you have to change your mind a little in the process.
  7. Yeah. And the reality is that the worst case scenario with Diggs is that he goes off on Allen. But that’s only going to happen if Allen plays poorly. In that case, so what? The season is lost and we’d have bigger problems with the team. But if Allen plays well, then Diggs should be a happy camper and he can help elevate the team. Diggs might amplify a good or bad situation, but he’s not going to create either all by himself.
  8. Diggs for a one and change plus his contract versus Lamb for a one and two on a rookie deal. It’s debatable depending on a team’s circumstances, but I prefer the Diggs trade. It isn’t the picks involved, it’s the certainty of getting a top end WR on day 1 that matters to me. There’s risk and development time with Lamb and I’ll happily take on the additional contract dollars for the immediacy and certainty. Still, it wasn’t really a choice between the two since the decision on Diggs had to be made long before the draft.
  9. Minny looked into trading up to get Lamb, but Atlanta (picking right before Dallas) demanded their first and second. I’d have done that in a heartbeat for Lamb if we hadn’t traded for Diggs, but there’s no good reason he should’ve fallen that far. He was only still on the board because the Raiders were stupid enough to take Ruggs at 12 over every other WR in the draft. SMDH
  10. It’s worth noting that Brees played his senior season with a torn muscle in his back. A young (at the time) engineer I used to work with told me about it. His g/f whom he later married was one of Brees’ trainers at Purdue. Apparently it was a huge issue for him that season and it prevented him from throwing naturally. IMO injury risk is by far the biggest reason to worry about Tua’s success in the NFL. I agree with you on that. But it’s actually a bit of a parallel with Brees rather than a big difference.

  12. Agree on Ford. People are getting way ahead of themselves. He was a rookie last year. Give him a chance to develop. Maybe he will and maybe he won’t, but give him a chance. As for Kroft, he was a horrible signing with a ridiculous contract. We’re pretty much stuck with him for 2020 though. Let’s hope he at least sees the field. Knox had some flashes, but I’m not sold on him yet either. He’s a lot like Ford though. Sophomore season in 2020. Let’s see how he develops.
  13. Yeah, they’re similar. I’m not sold on Allen by any means, but I definitely give him a solid edge over Lock.
  14. I see The Endowment Effect is strong in this thread. Realistically Allen is still unproven enough that he has not yet earned a second contract so I’m discounting longevity concerns with other QBs. I’d trade him for a number of others, including those still going strong at the end of their careers. For an extreme example, give me two seasons of Brees where I know we will be in the mix for a SB and I run with it. I’ll take that near guarantee of top end QB play over the possibility of Allen improving enough to do that. And I don’t know what to say to anyone still taking Allen over Watson after watching how they both played down the stretch of the playoff game. I get the optimism for Allen, but every fan base has that for their young QB too. Except Bears fans for Trubisky. That ship has sailed. Try to take emotion out of the equation and you’ll see that there is a lot to like about some of the other QBs out there.
  15. They know that this is a developmental year. Sure the Phins will try to win every game, but realistically they’re just aiming to be competitive and to get a couple more wins than last year. The QB situation is what it usually is in such situations. There’s a bridge QB and a guy they hope will be the future. Tua will get his chance at some point.
  16. Yeah, but the Pats* were playing the Steelers in Primetime in two weeks and RATINGS!(Read: MONEY!)
  17. I always assumed he went for the weakest point in the pipe, like where it was most corroded. He only had so many hits with the rock.
  18. Own the DVDs. Still one of my absolute favorite cinematic endeavors. I usually include it on my top 10 favorite movies list even though it’s a miniseries. I really enjoyed watching it with my teenage son, who loved it.
  19. That is incorrect. Forward movement of the ball is not necessary. Here is the rule: NFL passing rules See Article 1, Section 1. The play was properly officiated. Edit: Billl, you best me to it!
  20. It’s not out of the question. Donkeys defense is stacked with the exception of their CBs. If they get good play from them, then they are by no means a gimmie. Of course, their QB is Drew Lock and they have some other issues on O, so it’s certainly a game we SHOULD win.
  21. They could calculate it based on what percentage of the time a player plays which position. Over 75% of time at one position, that’s what you get. Closer than that to even and you get the 50/50 split. I don’t know how they’re going to differentiate between a slot WR and a split TE other than to make that a position in and of itself.
